Community Wind 101: A Primer for Policymakers
Provides an overview of a model for wind power development based on local ownership. Reviews innovative examples, economic benefits for the community, benefits for clean energy development, obstacles, and state and federal policy options to address them
Endo-permutation modules as sources of simple modules.
The source of a simple -module, for a finite -solvable group and an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic , is an endo-permutation module (see~\cite{Pu1} or~\cite{Th}). L. Puig has proved, more precisely, that this source must be isomorphic to the cap of an endo-permutation module of the form \bigotimes_{Q/R\in\cal S}\Ten^P_Q\Inf^Q_{Q/R}(M_{Q/R}), where is an indecomposable torsion endo-trivial module with vertex , and is a set of cyclic, quaternion and semi-dihedral sections of the vertex of the simple -module. At present, it is conjectured that, if the source of a simple module is an endo-permutation module, then it should have this shape. In this paper, we are going to give a method that allow us to realize explicitly the cap of any such indecomposable module as the source of a simple module for a finite -nilpotent group
The Dade group of a metacyclic -group.
The Dade group of a finite -group , formed by equivalence classes of endo-permutation modules, is a finitely generated abelian group. Its torsion-free rank equals the number of conjugacy classes of non-cyclic subgroups of and it is conjectured that every non-trivial element of its torsion subgroup has order , (or also , in case ). The group is closely related to the injectivity of the restriction map \Res:T(P)\rightarrow\prod_E T(E) where runs over elementary abelian subgroups of and denotes the group of equivalence classes of endo-trivial modules, which is still unknown for (almost) extra-special groups ( odd). As metacyclic -groups have no (almost) extra-special section, we can verify the above conjecture in this case. Finally, we compute the whole Dade group of a metacyclic -group
Simply Generated Trees, B-series and Wigner Processes
We consider simply generated trees and study multiplicative functions on
rooted plane trees. We show that the associated generating functions satisfy
differential equations or difference equations. Our approach considers B-series

The effects of selected modern technological concepts on the performance and handling characteristics of LTA vehicles
The results of an airship design sensitivity study are presented. A wide variety of airship design concepts, including the classical and high aero-lift augmented-hybrids are examined with regard to specific technological improvements, and consequent gains in performance, stability and control and flying qualities. Variations in size, payload, power required and airspeed are quantitatively analyzed for airships representing aero-to-buoyant lift ratios of zero to 3.0 over a range of technology improvements implying reduced drag, reduced structural weight fractions and lighter, more efficient propulsion systems. Qualitatively, future airships are discussed in terms of stability, control and flying qualities requirements dictated by projected demands for vastly improved operational effectiveness and ease of handling. Such topics include stability augmentation systems, load-alleviation systems and total computer state-sensing and controls management systems. It was shown that, for the most part, highly refined conventional designs offer attractive gains in both performance and ease of handling. Hybrid airships represent a good potential for missions requiring the transport of heavy payloads at higher airspeeds over shorter ranges without the capability for sustained hover and vertical flight
Endotrivial modules for the sporadic simple groups and their covers
In a step towards the classification of endotrivial modules for quasi-simple
groups, we investigate endotrivial modules for the sporadic simple groups and
their covers. A main outcome of our study is the existence of torsion
endotrivial modules with dimension greater than one for several sporadic groups
with -rank greater than one.Comment: in Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra, published online 19th

Rapid Dissolution of Lignocellulosic Plant Materials in an Ionic Liquid
Concerns regarding the non-renewable nature of, and pollution from, petroleum derived energy and commercial products has led to the concept of a biomass economy. As part of this vision for a society based on sustainable biomaterials, proposed biorefineries need to tackle the challenges of taking a wide diversity of raw biomass and rapidly and effectively transforming it into functionalizable platform molecules that can be derivatized into industrial and consumer products, or converted into biofuels. A substantial research effort is underway focussed on degrading biomass into smaller constituents using a variety of physical, chemical, and biological processes. One promising technology for the solubilization of biomass is ionic liquids (ILs), which has received considerable attention as a medium for efficient solubilization of a variety of materials. ILs also allow fractional separation when combined with solvent extraction (conventional, and green technologies such as supercritical CO2), precipitation, and adsorption/absorption methods, and to conduct a wide range of chemical reactions using thermal, electrochemical, photochemical, and biocatalytic processes. As a potential pretreatment technology for the biorefineries of the future, we report herein the first rapid dissolution of a range of coniferous and deciduous woods and grassy lignocellulosic plant materials in an IL using microwave radiation
