Impact of damper seal coefficients in rotor dynamics : uncertainties and optimization

Damper seals can have a significant impact on rotor dynamics, but the calculation of the stiffness and damping coefficients for this component can be challenging and has a high uncertainty. In the present work, a probabilistic model is proposed to model the seal coefficients, which are frequency-dependent. We develop a stochastic process (frequency indexed) so that the uncertainty in the model is taken into account. The impact of these uncertainties on the rotordynamic behavior of a compressor is analyzed. The deterministic coefficients of the seal are determined considering a bulk-flow model and values calculated by a compressor vendor based on the extrapolation of experimental data. The obtained results show that the uncertainty of these coefficients have a considerable impact on the compressor rotordynamic behavior, affecting the stability margin and the unbalance response. Based on this analysis, a procedure for the robust optimization of the compressor rotordynamic behavior is proposed. This procedure considers the seal geometric parameters as design variables. The results for the robust optimization show that the seal length and the cell hole depth can be modified to improve the unbalance response.Os selos amortecedores podem ter grande impacto na dinâmica de rotores, mas o cálculo dos valores dos coeficientes de rigidez e amortecimento para este componente é difícil e possui grande incerteza. No presente trabalho, um modelo probabilístico é proposto para modelar os coeficientes do selo, que são dependentes da frequência. Um processo estocástico (indexado na frequência) é construído de forma que o erro do modelo seja levado em consideração. O impacto dessas incertezas no comportamento rotodinâmico de um compressor é analisado. Os coeficientes determinísticos do selo são determinados considerando o modelo ‘bulk-flow’ e valores calculados por um fabricante de compressores baseado em uma extrapolação de dados experimentais. Os resultados obtidos mostram que a incerteza desses coeficientes tem um impacto considerável no comportamento rotodinâmico do compressor, afetando a margem de estabilidade e a resposta ao desbalanceamento. Baseado nesta análise, um procedimento para a otimização robusta do comportamento rotodinâmico do compressor é proposto. Este procedimento considera parâmetros geométricos do selo como variáveis de projeto. Os resultados da otimização robusta mostram que o comprimento do selo e a profundidade das células podem ser alterados com o objetivo de se obter uma melhor resposta ao desbalanceamento

Biomass Model and Water Balance Application for Watershed Drought Analysis

The hydrological cycle is an important process for monitoring various functions of the landscape. However, changes from land use and natural events, such as drought, have caused several problems in watersheds, such as water scarcity episodes. Thus, the creation of tools for monitoring these events is important in environmental research. Therefore, the objective of this work is delimiting the potential biomass and elaborates the water balance of the Serra Azul stream sub-basin (MG) to analyze the influence of drought on the water storage of the hydrographic basin. The used methodology involved the calculation of the Vegetation Condition Index (VCI), application of the biomass model and evaluation of water balance. Furthermore, a regression analysis was performed between the analyzed data to verify the influence of the variation in biomass and water balance in the worsening of drought in the study region. The results indicated that variations in land use and the natural changes in the hydrological cycle contributed to the worsening of drought proving the effectiveness of biomass model associated to water balance and VCI data for monitoring drought.

Conhecida, já no século XVII, como querela dos Antigos e dos Modernos, a série de debates entre membros da Academia Francesa opôs, de um lado, aqueles que defendiam a exemplaridade da Antiguidade na produção artística e literária do período e, de outro, os partidários da legitimidade da criatividade dos artistas modernos. Entre os letrados que em pleno reinado de Luís XIV deram ensejo a essa disputa, Charles Perrault se destacou não apenas como porta-voz dos autointitulados Modernos, mas também como o estopim e catalisador do debate. Nesse sentido, este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar as ideias e argumentos do poeta francês durante a querela a fim de evidenciar em suas obras tanto a defesa de uma literatura moderna, entendida como arte que expressa a singularidade de seu tempo, quanto o exercício de suas premissas na escrita de Contos da Mamãe Gansa, obra de maior sucesso do autor e da literatura francesa.*Already known in the seventeenth century as the quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns, the series of debates between members of the French Academy opposed, from one side, those who defended the exemplarity of antiquity in the artistic and literary production in that age and, on the other side, the legitimacy partisans of the modern artists’ creativity. Estudo bioquímico da soja em defesa induzida pela herbivoria do percevejo-marrom euchistus heros (Heteroptera : Pentatomidae)

Dissertação (mestrado)—Universidade de Brasília, Instituto de Ciências Biológicas, Departamento de Biologia Celular, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Biologia Molecular, 2013.Atualmente a soja é uma das culturas mais importantes para o agronegócio nacional devido aos seus múltiplos usos, e tem na região Centro-Oeste a maior produção do país. Este trabalho de mestrado visou avaliar a resposta adaptativa bioquímica de duas variedades de soja sob herbivoria do percevejo-marrom (Euschistus heros), importante praga da cultura, através (i) da quantificação da atividade de determinadas enzimas do sistema antioxidante (guaiacol peroxidase, catalase, ascorbato peroxidase e lipoxigenase 3) e da (ii) identificação de enzimas envolvidas em vias metabólicas chaves através de análise proteômica. Duas variedades de soja, uma que é considerada resistente à herbivoria do percevejo (IAC-100), e outra susceptível (Silvânia) em estágio V3, foram expostas à herbivoria por 96 h, das quais as folhas foram coletadas em intervalos de 24 h. A variedade Silvânia foi a que apresentou significativa diferença na resposta antioxidante durante a herbivoria do percevejo-marrom. Exceto para a ascorbato peroxidase, todas as demais enzimas apresentaram atividade variada ao longo do tempo de herbivoria, evidenciando assim uma maior resposta ao estresse gerado pela herbivoria do percevejo-marrom. Adicionalmente, essa variedade apresentou, em média, 386 proteínas foliares totais, das quais 17 tiveram seu nível de expressão alterado quando em herbivoria. Dentre as proteínas com expressão diferenciada estão a CP4EPSPS (enolpiruvil shikimato-3-fosfato sintase), a proteína rica em glicina do tipo 2b, e as chaperonas de 20 e 70 kDa. A variedade IAC-100 não apresentou modificações nas atividades das enzimas antioxidantes estudadas e apresentou em média 191 proteínas foliares totais, das quais 10 tiveram seu nível de expressão alterado em função da herbivoria - foram identificadas a gliceraldeído-3-fosfato desidrogenase e a enzima rubisco. A interpretação da função das proteínas diferencialmente expressas, aliada aos resultados do sistema de defesa antioxidante, possibilitou compreender melhor os mecanismos bioquímicos de resistência/susceptibilidade nas duas variedades de soja, assim como dar maior embasamento à proposta de que a IAC-100 é mais resistente à herbivoria do percevejo-marrom. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTCurrently soy is one of the most important crops for agribusiness because of its multiple uses, and has in the Midwest the biggest production of the country. This master thesis was to evaluate the biochemical adaptive response of two soybean varieties under herbivory brown stink bug (Euschistus heros), an important pest of culture through (i) the quantification of the activity of certain enzymes of the antioxidant system (guaiacol peroxidase, catalase , ascorbate peroxidase and lipoxygenase 3) and (ii) identification of enzymes involved in key metabolic pathways through proteomic analysis. Two soybean varieties, one that is considered resistant to herbivory stink bug (IAC-100), and another capable (Silvânia) V3 stage were exposed to herbivory by 96 h, the leaves of which were collected at intervals of 24 h. The variety Silvânia showed the significant difference in antioxidant response during herbivory brown stink bug. Except for ascorbate peroxidase, all other enzymes showed activity varied over time from herbivory, thus revealing a greater stress response generated by herbivory of the brown stink bug. Additionally, the variety show, in average, 386 total leaf proteins, of which 17 had their expression level changed when herbivory. Among the proteins with differential expression are CP4EPSPS (enolpyruvyl shikimate-3-phosphate synthase), glycine-rich protein 2b-like, and chaperones 20 and 70 kDa. IAC-100 showed no changes in the activities of antioxidant enzymes studied and showed an average of 191 total leaf proteins, of which 10 had their expression level changed depending on herbivores - were identified glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and the enzyme rubisco. The interpretation of the function of differentially expressed proteins, coupled with the results of the antioxidant defense system, enabled a better understanding of the biochemical mechanisms of resistance / susceptibility in two soybean varieties, as well as giving greater basis for the proposal that the IAC-100 is more resistant herbivory of the brown stink bug

O PROCESSO DEMONÍACO DA CRIANÇA NO ROMANCE O MORRO DOS VENTOS UIVANTES: PERSPECTIVAS DO MAL NA LITERATURA

This article points out possibilities of reading from the studies related to childhood and the notion of evil in literature. The debate was possible from two paths: a) reading the novel The Wuthering Heights, the British writer Emily Brontë (2007); b) the analytical study done about evil in the literature based on the lessons of the Post Graduate in Arts, Federal University of Ceará. The work seeks to articulate demonic aspects of the child, especially those seen in the character Heathcliff able to approach it from the perspective of evil discussed by Ricoeur (1988) and Bataille (1989). Hopefully the text enables a systematic analysis of evil and how it presents in childhood of some characters.Este artigo aponta possibilidades de leitura a partir dos estudos relacionados à infância e a noção do mal na literatura. O debate foi possível a partir de dois trajetos: a) a leitura do romance O Morro dos Ventos Uivantes, da escritora inglesa Emily Brontë (2007); b) o estudo analítico feito acerca do mal na literatura com base nas aulas do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras, da Universidade Federal do Ceará. O trabalho procura articular alguns aspectos demoníacos da criança, sobretudo, aqueles visualizados no personagem Heathcliff capazes de aproximá-lo das perspectivas do mal discutidas por Ricoeur (1988) e Bataille (1989). Esperamos que o texto possibilite uma análise sistemática do mal e o modo como se apresenta na infância de alguns personagens

Progressive Indexes

Interactive exploration of large volumes of data is increasingly common, as data scientists attempt to extract interesting information from large opaque data sets. This scenario presents a difficult challenge for traditional database systems, as (1) nothing is known about the query workload in advance, (2) the query workload is constantly changing, and (3) the system must provide interactive responses to the issued queries. This environment is challenging for index creation, as traditional database indexes require upfront creation, hence a priori workload knowledge, to be efficient.In this work, we introduce Progressive Indexing, a novel performance-driven indexing technique that focuses on automatic index creation while providing interactive response times to incoming queries. Its design allows queries to have a limited budget to spend on index creation. The indexing budget is automatically tuned to each query before query processing. This allows for systems to provide interactive answers to queries during index creation while being robust against various workload patterns and data distributions.We develop progressive algorithms to index one and multiple dimensions. In addition, we introduce Progressive Merges, a robust algorithm that merges appends into our Progressive Indexes without penalizing single queries.Algorithms and the Foundations of Software technolog

Equilíbrio postural e malabarismo em crianças obesas, com sobrepeso e eutróficas

Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (graduação)—Universidade de Brasília, Faculdade de Educação Física, Curso de Educação Física, 2017.Há evidências de um surto de obesidade nas últimas décadas, como consequência a obesidade infantil se apresenta hoje como uma grande preocupação de saúde pública mundial. A obesidade está relacionada a uma menor coordenação motora e maiores dificuldades de equilíbrio postural. O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar o comportamento do controle postural na posição em pé durante a execução de malabarismo com lenços em crianças obesas, com sobrepeso e eutróficas. Participaram do estudo 41 crianças com idade entre 8 e 10 anos de idade, divididas em três grupos. As crianças realizaram o malabarismo com lenços sobre uma plataforma de força para a análise do equilíbrio. As crianças obesas apresentaram menores valores médios de velocidade do COP na situação mais desafiadora. Não houve diferença significativa quando comparados os três grupos. Esse estudo sugere que as crianças obesas apresentaram maior rigidez e estabilidade postural para conseguir realizar a tarefa do malabarismo na posição mais desafiadora (base fechada malabar).There is evidence of an outbreak of obesity in the last decades. As a consequence childhood obesity presents itself today as a major public health concern worldwide. Obesity is related to lower motor coordination and greater difficulties of postural balance. The present study had as objective to analyze the behavior of postural control in the standing position during the execution of juggling with juggling tissues in obese, overweight and eutrophic children. Thirty-one children aged 8 to 10 years, divided into three groups, participated in the study. The children performed juggling with handkerchiefs on a force platform for balance analysis. Obese children had lower mean values of COP speed in the most challenging situation. There was no significant difference when comparing the three groups. This study suggests that obese children presented greater rigidity and postural stability in order to achieve the task of juggling in the most challenging position (closed base juggling)

Trabalho escravo no Brasil do século xxi: regulamentação da Emenda Constitucional Nº 81/20

Passados mais de cento e vinte e cinco anos da assinatura da Lei Áurea, persiste no Brasil situações que mantêm trabalhadores escravos. A presente pesquisa bibliográfica detalha o conceito de trabalho escravo contemporâneo no Brasil, o qual prescinde à restrição da liberdade individual e tem a dignidade da pessoa humana como principal bem jurídico lesado; explicita a situação de milhares de trabalhadores que, aliciados em municípios distantes com falsas promessas de condições de trabalho e salário, acabam submetidos a situações de maus-tratos e a condições desumanas; demonstra a importância da “lista suja” do MTE no combate ao Trabalho escravo, bem como sua constitucionalidade/legalidade, à luz do princípio da dignidade humana, da valorização trabalho e da função social da propriedade; revela que a tão aguardada Emenda Constitucional nº 81 de 2014 corre sérios riscos de ser uma legislação sem nenhuma aplicabilidade já que o Projeto de Lei que pretende regulamentá-la cria obstáculos à expropriação das propriedades onde for localizada a exploração de trabalho escravo; afirma que a regulamentação do texto constitucional não deve apresentar restrição à norma regulada, que a ação expropriatória deve ser totalmente independente de eventual ação criminal e que o texto Substitutivo apresentado pelos Senadores Wellington Dias, Walter Pinheiro e Ângela Portela mostra-se mais adequado ao combate ao trabalho escravo do que o texto aprovado pela Comissão Mista destinada a consolidar a legislação federal e a regulamentar dispositivos da Constituição Federal
