    We report well-scaled 50 nm GaAs metamorphic HEMTs (mHEMTs) with DC power consumption in the range 1-150 ΜW/Μ demonstrating f<sub>T</sub> of 30-400 GHz. These metrics enable the realisation of ultra-low power (<500 ΜW) radio transceivers for autonomous distributed sensor network applications

    Abstract: Data is reported from 180 nm gate length GaAs n-MOSFETs with drive current (Ids,sat) of 386 μA/μm (Vg=Vd =1.5 V), extrinsic transconductance (gm) of 426 μS/μm, gate leakage ( jg,limit) of 44 nA/cm2, and on resistance (Ron) of 1640 Ω μm. The gm and Ron metrics are the best values reported to date for III-V MOSFETs, and indicate their potential for scaling to deca-nanometre dimensions

    Very high performance 50 nm T-gate III-V HEMTs enabled by robust nanofabrication technologies

    In this paper, we review a range of nanofabrication techniques which enable the realization of uniform, high yield, high performance 50 nm T-gate III-V high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs). These technologies have been applied in the fabrication of a range of lattice matched and pseudomorphic InP HEMTs and GaAs metamorphic HEMTs with functional yields in excess of 95%, threshold voltage uniformity of 5 mV, DC transconductance of up to 1600 mS/mm and f/sub T/ of up to 480 GHz. These technologies and device demonstrators are key to enabling a wide range of millimeter-wave imaging and sensing applications beyond 100 GHz, particularly where array-based multi-channel solutions are required

    The consequences of executive turnover

    The high rate of executive turnover in the healthcare industry is a major issue for health service organisations and their staff both in Australia and internationally. In the course of planning a research project examining nurse turnover at the clinical level within three Australian States/Territories, the researchers became aware of frequent executive turnover at all levels (State Department of Health, Area Health Service, hospital). Over a period of approximately 2 years there were 41 executives occupying 18 different positions, highlighting the scope of this issue in Australia. Few studies have examined the causes and consequences of this phenomenon in depth. Factors such as age, gender, education, lack of career advancement opportunities and remuneration have all been identified in the literature as important contributors to executive turnover. High turnover rates have been found to be associated with a number of negative consequences, including organisational instability, high financial costs, loss of human capital and adverse effects on staff morale and patient care. While the use of 'acting' roles may assist in filling executive positions on a temporary basis, consequences for the rest of the organisation are associated with their extended use. Steps which health services planners may take to attempt to minimise executive turnover include providing staff members with appropriate challenges and opportunities for growth and ensuring that a clear succession plan is in place to minimise the impact for the organisation and its staff. © The Author(s) 2011

    Super-resolution imaging reveals the sub-diffraction phenotype of Zellweger Syndrome ghosts and wild-type peroxisomes.

    Peroxisomes are ubiquitous cell organelles involved in many metabolic and signaling functions. Their assembly requires peroxins, encoded by PEX genes. Mutations in PEX genes are the cause of Zellweger Syndrome spectrum (ZSS), a heterogeneous group of peroxisomal biogenesis disorders (PBD). The size and morphological features of peroxisomes are below the diffraction limit of light, which makes them attractive for super-resolution imaging. We applied Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) microscopy to study the morphology of human peroxisomes and peroxisomal protein localization in human controls and ZSS patients. We defined the peroxisome morphology in healthy skin fibroblasts and the sub-diffraction phenotype of residual peroxisomal structures ('ghosts') in ZSS patients that revealed a relation between mutation severity and clinical phenotype. Further, we investigated the 70 kDa peroxisomal membrane protein (PMP70) abundance in relationship to the ZSS sub-diffraction phenotype. This work improves the morphological definition of peroxisomes. It expands current knowledge about peroxisome biogenesis and ZSS pathoethiology to the sub-diffraction phenotype including key peroxins and the characteristics of ghost peroxisomes

    Yoga in women with abdominal obesity - Do lifestyle factors mediate the effect? Secondary analysis of a RCT.

    INTRODUCTION: The reduction of obesity is an important challenge for health policy. Although dietary interventions are widely available, patient adherence is usually low. A promising alternative is yoga. We hypothesized that weight reduction through yoga is mediated by aspects related to eating habits as well as physical aspects. METHODS: This is an exploratory secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial comparing the effects of yoga to waiting list in women with abdominal obesity. Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference were assessed as outcomes; physical exercise habits, physical activity habits at leisure time, physical activity habits at work time, daily fruit and vegetable intake, nutrition self-efficacy, and physical self-efficacy were captured as mediators. Measures were assessed at weeks 0 and 12. The original trial was conducted between April and August 2015. The secondary analysis was performed December 2019. RESULTS: Forty patients were randomized to the 12 weekly yoga sessions (48.5 ± 7.9 years) and 20 patients to the waitlist group (46.4 ± 8.9 years). Physical exercise habits fully mediated the effect of yoga on BMI (B=-0.26;CI[-.56;-.07]). Daily fruit and vegetable intake partially mediated the effect of yoga on BMI (B=-0.13;CI[-.38;-.01]). No further mediation effects were found. CONCLUSIONS: Yoga supports people with overweight in eating healthier and increasing their physical activity which in turn leads to a reduced BMI. Yoga's effects on waist circumference seem to be due to other mechanisms
