    Existence and stability of periodic solution of a Lotka–Volterra predator–prey model with state dependent impulsive effects

    AbstractAccording to biological and chemical control strategy for pest, we investigate the dynamic behavior of a Lotka–Volterra predator–prey state-dependent impulsive system by releasing natural enemies and spraying pesticide at different thresholds. By using Poincaré map and the properties of the Lambert W function, we prove that the sufficient conditions for the existence and stability of semi-trivial solution and positive periodic solution. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the feasibility of our main results

    Parent-adolescent attachment and peer attachment associated with Internet Gaming Disorder: a longitudinal study of first-year undergraduate students

    Background and aims: Given that Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) has tentatively been included in DSM-5 as a psychiatric disorder, it is important that the effect of parental and peer attachment in the development of IGD is further explored. Methods: Utilizing a longitudinal design, this study investigated the bidirectional association between perceived Q1 parent-adolescent attachment, peer attachment, and IGD among 1,054 first-year undergraduate students (58.8% female). The students provided demographic information (e.g., age, gender) and were assessed using the nine-item Internet Gaming Disorder Scale and the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment. Assessments occurred three times, six months apart (October 2017; April 2018; October 2018). Results: Cross-lagged panel models suggested that IGD weakly predicted subsequent mother attachment but significantly negatively predicted father attachment. However, father and mother attachment could not predict subsequent IGD. Moreover, peer attachment has bidirectional association with IGD. Further, the model also demonstrated stable crosssectional negative correlations between attachment and IGD across all three assessments. Discussion and conclusions: The findings of the present study did not show a bidirectional association between parental attachment and IGD, but they did show a negative bidirectional association between peer attachment and IGD. The results suggested previous cross-sectional associations between IGD and attachment, with larger links among males than females at the first measurement point. We found that peer attachment could negatively predict subsequent IGD, which indicates that peer attachment plays an important role in preventing addictive gaming behaviors for university students

    Effectiveness of triple inhalation therapy and non-invasive ventilation in the treatment of acute exacerbated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

    Purpose: To determine the clinical effectiveness of combining triple inhalation therapy with noninvasive ventilation in treating acute exacerbated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD).Methods: A total of 128 AECOPD patients admitted in the Department of Respiratory Medicine of our Hospital were involved in the study. Two groups of patients were used (64 patients per group). The study group was given triple inhalation therapy and non-invasive ventilation, while only non-invasive ventilation was given to the control group. The curative effects of the two treatments and their effects on arterial PaCO2 (partial pressure of carbon dioxide), pH and PaO2 (partial pressure of oxygen) were determined.Results: The study group showed significantly higher treatment effectiveness than the control group (p < 0.05). Post-treatment PaCO2, pH, PaO2, respiratory rate and heart rate differed significantly between the two groups (p < 0.05). Improvements in the five indices were more in the study group than in the control group (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Combining triple inhalation therapy with non-invasive ventilation in the treatment of AECOPD enhances therapeutic effect, improves pulmonary ventilation, and reduces side effects.Keywords: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Acute exacerbation, Triple inhalation, Non-invasive ventilatio

    General Debiasing for Multimodal Sentiment Analysis

    Existing work on Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) utilizes multimodal information for prediction yet unavoidably suffers from fitting the spurious correlations between multimodal features and sentiment labels. For example, if most videos with a blue background have positive labels in a dataset, the model will rely on such correlations for prediction, while ``blue background'' is not a sentiment-related feature. To address this problem, we define a general debiasing MSA task, which aims to enhance the Out-Of-Distribution (OOD) generalization ability of MSA models by reducing their reliance on spurious correlations. To this end, we propose a general debiasing framework based on Inverse Probability Weighting (IPW), which adaptively assigns small weights to the samples with larger bias i.e., the severer spurious correlations). The key to this debiasing framework is to estimate the bias of each sample, which is achieved by two steps: 1) disentangling the robust features and biased features in each modality, and 2) utilizing the biased features to estimate the bias. Finally, we employ IPW to reduce the effects of large-biased samples, facilitating robust feature learning for sentiment prediction. To examine the model's generalization ability, we keep the original testing sets on two benchmarks and additionally construct multiple unimodal and multimodal OOD testing sets. The empirical results demonstrate the superior generalization ability of our proposed framework. We have released the code and data to facilitate the reproduction

    Dynamic Analysis of a Two-Language Competitive Model with Control Strategies

    The dynamic behavior of a two-language competitive model is analyzed systemically in this paper. By the linearization and the Bendixson-Dulac theorem on dynamical system, some sufficient conditions on the globally asymptotical stability of the trivial equilibria and the existence and the stability of the positive equilibrium of this model are presented. Nextly, in order to protect the endangered language, an optimal control problem relative to this model is explored. We derive some necessary conditions to solve the optimal control problem and present some numerical simulations using a Runge-Kutta fourth-order method. Finally, the languages competitive model is extended to this model assessing the impact of state-dependent pulse control strategy. Using the Poincaré map, differential inequality, and method of qualitative analysis, we prove the existence and stability of positive order-1 periodic solution for this control model.     Revealing microstructural evolutions, mechanical properties and wear performance of wire arc additive manufacturing homogeneous and heterogeneous NiTi alloy

    Heterogeneous microstructure designs have attracted a great deal of attention, not only because they have the potential to achieve an ideal combination of two conflicting properties, but also because the processes involved in their fabrication are cost-effective and can be scaled up for industrial production. The process parameters in the preparation process have an important effect on the microstructure and properties of alloy members prepared by wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technology. It was expected that the spatial heterogeneous microstructure with large microstructural heterogeneities in metals can be formed through changing the process parameters. In this work, homogeneous NiTi thin-walled component and heterogeneous NiTi thin-walled component were fabricated using WAAM technology by adjusting the heat input. The effects of deposition height and heat input on the microstructure, mechanical properties and wear properties of WAAM NiTi alloys were investigated. The results show that grains were gradually refined with the increase of deposition height in the homogeneous WAAM NiTi component. The ultimate tensile strength of homogeneous WAAM NiTi component increased from 606.87 MPa to 654.45 MPa and the elongation increased from 12.72% to 15.38%, as the increase of deposition height. Moreover, the homogeneous WAAM NiTi component exhibited excellent wear resistance, the coefficient of friction decreased from 0.760 to 0.715 with the increase of deposition height. Meanwhile, the grains in the heterogeneous WAAM NiTi component shows the finest grains in the central region. The ultimate tensile strength of the lower region, middle region and upper region of heterogeneous WAAM NiTi components were 556.12 MPa, 599.53 MPa and 739.79 MPa, and the elongations were 12.98%, 16.69%, 21.74%, respectively. The coefficient of friction for the lower region, middle region and upper region of heterogeneous WAAM NiTi components were 0.713, 0.720 and 0.710, respectively. The microhardness and cyclic compression properties of the homogeneous components with higher heat input were better than those of the heterogeneous components for the same deposition height. The tensile yield strength, elongation and wear resistance of the heterogeneous components were superior compared to the homogeneous components. These results can be used to optimize the WAAM process parameters to prepare NiTi components with excellent mechanical properties

    Analysis of an age-structured dengue model with multiple strains and cross immunity

    Dengue fever is a typical mosquito-borne infectious disease, and four strains of it are currently found. Clinical medical research has shown that the infected person can provide life-long immunity against the strain after recovering from infection with one strain, but only provide partial and temporary immunity against other strains. On the basis of the complexity of transmission and the diversity of pathogens, in this paper, a multi-strain dengue transmission model with latency age and cross immunity age is proposed. We discuss the well-posedness of this model and give the terms of the basic reproduction number R0 = max{R1, R2} , where Ri is the basic reproduction number of strain i (i = 1, 2). Particularly, we obtain that the model always has a unique diseasefree equilibrium P0 which is locally stable for R0 1, the strain-i dominant equilibrium Pi is locally stable for Rj < R∗ i (i, j = 1, 2, i 6= j). Additionally, the threshold criteria on the uniformly persistence, the existence and global asymptotically stability of coexistence equilibrium are also obtained. Finally, these theoretical results and interesting conclusions are illustrated with some numerical simulations

    Seismic retrofit of RC frames through beam-end weakening in conjunction with FRP strengthening

    The strong column/weak beam requirement is now widely accepted in the design of reinforced concrete (RC) frames to achieve good seismic performance. However, many existing RC frames violate this requirement as they were designed according to inadequate design codes (generally previous codes). In particular, RC frames designed according to the previous Chinese codes for seismic design are likely to violate this requirement as the contribution of a cast-in-place floor slab in tension is not included in assessing the moment capacity of the beam in negative bending. This paper proposes three promising beam weakening techniques in combination with FRP strengthening to achieve this strong column/weak beam hierarchy and presents the preliminary results of an ongoing study into the effectiveness of and design procedures for the proposed techniques

    Depression and anxiety symptoms associated with internet gaming disorder before and during the COVID-19 pandemic: a longitudinal study

    Background: The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has profoundly impacted aspects of human life globally. Playing videogames has been encouraged by several organizations to help individuals cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and associated restrictive measures. This longitudinal study was the first to examine gaming in the context of the pandemic and its association with depressive and anxiety symptoms. Methods: The sample comprised 1,778 children and adolescents (50.7% male) who were part of the Project of School Mental Health in Southwest China. Data were collected at two-time intervals: before the COVID-19 pandemic (October to November 2019 – [T1]) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (April to May 2020 – [T2]). Data were collected on perceived COVID-19 impacts, videogame use, Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD), and depressive and anxiety symptoms. Cross-lagged panel models were computed to examine longitudinal relationships. Results: The results indicated that both videogame use and IGD increased significantly for adolescents at T2. The cross-lagged panel model results suggested that depressive and anxiety symptoms at T1 positively predicted IGD and videogame use at T2 (especially for boys), but not inversely. Perceived COVID-19 impacts mediated the relationship between depressive and anxiety symptoms at T1 and IGD at T2. Conclusion: Children and adolescents both increased videogame use at T2, but only adolescents significantly increased IGD severity at T2. The findings supported the compensatory hypothesis, and are consistent with the Interaction of Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution model as individual responses to COVID-19 may function as a mediator between personal predisposing variables and IGD
