    Le présent article constitue à la fois un reflet des principales conclusions émises par les auteurs répertoriés au cours d'une récente recension des écrits et une occasion de réfléchir sur le soutien des personnes âgées en contexte québécois. Dans une approche plus descriptive, les auteurs présentent les études qui abordent la contribution des acteurs au soutien à domicile des personnes âgées ainsi que les théories, modèles et typologies qui tentent d'expliquer les relations entre les acteurs. En guise de conclusion, certains constats théoriques, méthodologiques et politiques sont discutés.This paper reviews the recent studies about the home care services for elderly and suggests a reflexion about Quebec context.     Structure of Metastable States in Phase Transitions with High-Spin Low-Spin Degree of Freedom

    Difference of degeneracy of the low-spin (LS) and high-spin (HS) states causes interesting entropy effects on spin-crossover phase transitions and charge transfer phase transitions in materials composed of the spin-crossover atoms. Mechanisms of the spin-crossover (SC) phase transitions have been studied by using Wajnflasz model, where the degeneracy of the spin states (HS or LS) is taken into account and cooperative natures of the spin-crossover phase transitions have been well described. Recently, a charge transfer (CT) phase transition due to electron hopping between LS and HS sites has been studied by using a generalized Wajnflasz model. In the both systems of SC and CT, the systems have a high temperature structure (HT) and a low temperature structure (LT), and the change between them can be a smooth crossover or a discontinuous first order phase transition depending on the parameters of the systems. Although apparently the standard SC system and the CT system are very different, it is shown that both models are equivalent under a certain transformation of variables. In both systems, the structure of metastable state at low temperatures is a matter of interest. We study temperature dependence of fraction of HT systematically in a unified model, and find several structures of equilibrium and metastable states of the model as functions of system parameters. In particular, we find a reentrant type metastable branch of HT in a low temperature region, which would play an important role to study the photo-irradiated processes of related materials.Comment: 19 pages, 11 figure

    Patients with Parkinson 's disease present gait impairments, sometimes sudden and unexpected, either improved or deteriorated with environmental stimuli. Attention focalization, either on external stimuli or on gait, could then modulate locomotion.The main objective was to better characterize how environmental stimuli would modulate locomotion, via attentional networks, in healthy subjects and in parkinsonian patients, with or without freezing of gait.At first, we precisely defined the attentional deficits in patients, with or without gait impairment. They showed altered performance respectively in mental flexibility and in divided attention.Then, we explored the attention-locomotion interaction by studying motor preparation. So, we highlighted that anticipatory postural adjustments were a sensitive marker of attention. In patients, they evidenced an alteration of the attention-motor program interaction.Studying the brain activation during the visuo-driven locomotion in these patients confirmed the involvement of cortical attentional regions. We observed an imbalance inside the parieto-premotor network (useful to modulate motor action according external stimuli)Finally, we tried to change the excitability of the premotor cortex with transcranial magnetic stimulation to modulate visuo-driven locomotion.Les patients atteints de maladie de Parkinson présentent des troubles de la marche, parfois paroxystiques, pouvant être aggravés ou améliorés par les stimuli environnementaux. L'attention portée, soit aux stimuli extérieurs, soit à la marche, pourrait ainsi moduler la locomotion.L’objectif principal était donc de mieux caractériser la manière dont les stimuli environnementaux modulent par le biais de réseaux attentionnels la locomotion. Ceci a été étudié chez les sujets sains puis chez les patients parkinsoniens, avec ou sans enrayage cinétique.Nous avons d'abord défini précisément les déficits attentionnels des patients, avec ou sans troubles de la marche. Ils présentaient respectivement des difficultés en flexibilité mentale et plus particulièrement en attention divisée.Nous avons ensuite exploré l'interaction attention-locomotion grâce à l'étude de la préparation motrice. Ainsi, nous avons pu démontrer que les ajustements posturaux anticipés étaient un marqueur sensible de l’attention. Chez les patients, ils pouvaient témoigner d’une altération de l'interaction attention-programmation motrice.L'étude des régions cérébrales activées lors de la locomotion visuo-guidée chez ces patients a permis de confirmer l'implication de structures corticales attentionnelles. Un déséquilibre d’activation au sein du réseau pariéto-prémoteur (nécessaire à la modulation de l'action motrice en fonction des stimuli externes) était présent.Enfin, nous avons essayé de modifier l'excitabilité du cortex prémoteur via des techniques de stimulation magnétique transcrânienne répétitive afin de moduler la locomotion visuo-guidée

    When young people drop out of school they are in great danger of being marginalized in society. Immigrants are another group of people who for several reasons often find it difficult to become integrated into their new home country. In both cases some less formal way of learning might help these groups avoid social exclusion. Well thoughtout development and application of new advanced technologies would be likely to level the way for continued education, communication and democratic participation in society. The term e-inclusion refers to these electronic means and how they could be applied to hindering social exclusion. This study compares the situation of school drop-outs and immigrants in Finland and Italy in the light of statistical data. It paves the way for a European research and development project whose aim is to study problems of e-inclusion in Finland and Italy empirically as well as develop technological and pedagogical solutions to them.mobile learning; e-inclusion; disadvantage groups; immigrants; drop outs

    Balanced homodyne detection in second-harmonic generation microscopy

    We demonstrate the association of two-photon nonlinear microscopy with balanced homodyne detection for investigating second harmonic radiation properties at nanoscale dimensions. Variation of the relative phase between second-harmonic and fundamental beams is retrieved, as a function of the absolute orientation of the nonlinear emitters. Sensitivity down to approximately 3.2 photon/s in the spatio-temporal mode of the local oscillator is obtained. This value is high enough to efficiently detect the coherent second-harmonic emission from a single KTiOPO4 crystal of sub-wavelength size.Comment: 9 pages to appear in Applied Physics Letter

    Muonium Chemistry at Diiron Subsite Analogues of [FeFe]-Hydrogenase

    The chemistry of metal hydrides is implicated in a range of catalytic processes at metal centres. Gaining insight into the formation of such sites by protonation and/or electronation is therefore of significant value in fully exploiting the potential of such systems. Here, we show that the muonium radical (Mu·), used as a low isotopic mass analogue of hydrogen, can be exploited to probe the early stages of hydride formation at metal centres. Mu· undergoes the same chemistry as H· and can be directly observed due to its short lifetime (in the microseconds) and unique breakdown signature. By implanting Mu· into three models of the [FeFe]-hydrogenase active site we have been able to detect key muoniated intermediates of direct relevance to the hydride chemistry of these systems

    Proton-Coupled Reduction of the Catalytic [4Fe-4S] Cluster in [FeFe]-Hydrogenases

    In nature, [FeFe]-hydrogenases catalyze the uptake and release of molecular hydrogen (H2) at a unique iron-sulfur cofactor. The absence of an electrochemical overpotential in the H2 release reaction makes [FeFe]-hydrogenases a prime example of efficient biocatalysis. However, the molecular details of hydrogen turnover are not yet fully understood. Herein, we characterize the initial one-electron reduction of [FeFe]-hydrogenases by infrared spectroscopy and electrochemistry and present evidence for proton- coupled electron transport during the formation of the reduced state Hred′. Charge compensation stabilizes the excess electron at the [4Fe-4S] cluster and maintains a conservative configuration of the diiron site. The role of Hred′ in hydrogen turnover and possible implications on the catalytic mechanism are discussed. We propose that regulation of the electronic properties in the periphery of metal cofactors is key to orchestrating multielectron processes
