A non-negative matrix factorization based clustering to identify potential tuna fishing zones
Many nonnegative matrix factorization based clusterings are employed in discovering pattern and knowledge. Considering the sparseness nature of our data set about the daily tuna fishing data, we attempted to utilize a clustering approach, which is based on non-negative matrix factorization. Adding sparseness constraint and assigning good initial value in the modified NMF method, a proposed algorithm Direct-NMFSC yielded better result cluster compared to other methods which are also utilizing sparse constraint to their approaches, SNMF and NMFSC. The result of this study shows that Direct-NMFSC has 5.376 times of iteration number less than NMFSC in average with 531.97 as the CH index result. The determination of potential fishing zones is one of the essential efforts in the potential fishing zone mapping system for tuna fishing. By means of this novel data-driven study to construct the information and to identify the potential tuna fishing zones is done. We also showed that utilizing the Direct-NMFSC can spot and identify the potential tuna fishing zones presented in red cluster that covers both the spatial and temporal information
mytune: webvisualization technologies for Irish traditional music archives
Online digital music libraries have become important repositories
for music for all enthusiasts of Irish traditional music. These
libraries have certainly facilitated the discovery of new material
and enabled extensive exploration of musical variations on wellknown favorites. Current web interfaces to these repositories,
offer a combination of text and notation-based information as well
as providing audio and midi listening formats. However, these
interfaces could take advantage of more recently available
technologies offering graph-based, interactive, visual displays and
more useful data analytic content. Drawing on the state-of the-art
data visualization web libraries, the objective of this work is to
present a prototype of a new digital library for Irish traditional
music. The design and architecture is detailed using standard
Unified Modelling Language (UML) notation. Evaluation is
carried out by a usability survey to determine the effectiveness of
the enhancements
Case report: From palliative to potentially curative – the advent of immunotherapy providing hope to advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma
IntroductionBiliary tract cancers (BTC) are often diagnosed at an advanced stage where prognosis is poor and curative-intent surgery is infeasible. First-line cisplatin-gemcitabine chemotherapy for advanced gallbladder cancer has remained unchanged over more than a decade, but recent developments in immunotherapy such as durvalumab have highlighted promise as a combination treatment regime with current standard chemotherapy.MethodsIn this case description, we present a case of locally-advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma involving the biliary confluence that was initially planned for an extended right hepatectomy after portal vein embolization. Interval imaging revealed peritoneal metastasis, which was confirmed on diagnostic laparoscopy and biopsy. The patient underwent 8 cycles of cisplatin 25 mg/m2 and gemcitabine 1,000 mg/m2 chemotherapy on days 1 and 8 of each 21-day cycle, with durvalumab (Imfinzi®) 1,500 mg immunotherapy on day 1 of every cycle, in accordance with the treatment protocol of the TOPAZ-1 trial. Repeat imaging demonstrated a stable primary lesion with no further evidence of peritoneal disease. The patient subsequently underwent curative-intent conversion surgery with an extended right hepatectomy and Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy, which were completed through a fully minimally-invasive laparoscopic approach.ResultsFinal pathological TNM classification was ypT1aN0, with near-complete pathological response to pre-surgical therapy, uninvolved margins (R0 resection) and tumour shrinkage from 2.5 centimetres on pre-operative cross-sectional imaging to 0.5 centimetres on final histology. The patient had an uneventful post-operative course, and was fit for discharge by the fourth post-operative day. He remained well after three months of routine post-operative follow-up, with no significant post-operative complications and biochemical or radiological evidence of disease recurrence.ConclusionOur case description highlights the immense potential of combination durvalumab immunotherapy with cisplatin-gemcitabine chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma. The patient’s locally advanced disease was initially planned for complex open surgery, prior to discovery of peritoneal metastasis rendering it inoperable. This was successfully down-staged with combination therapy to eventual R0 resection via minimally-invasive surgery. In addition, this case description demonstrates the feasibility of a fully laparoscopic approach with postulated benefits of diagnostic re-evaluation of peritoneal disease, reduced wound pain and shorter length of hospital stay
Maxwell-Chern-Simons Scalar Electrodynamics at Two Loop
The Maxwell-Chern-Simons gauge theory with charged scalar fields is analyzed
at two loop level. The effective potential for the scalar fields is derived in
the closed form, and studied both analytically and numerically. It is shown
that the U(1) symmetry is spontaneously broken in the massless scalar theory.
Dimensional transmutation takes place in the Coleman-Weinberg limit in which
the Maxwell term vanishes. We point out the subtlety in defining the pure
Chern-Simons scalar electrodynamics and show that the Coleman-Weinberg limit
must be taken after renormalization. Renormalization group analysis of the
effective potential is also given at two loop.Comment: 53 pages. 6 figures included. Several important typos are correcte
Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking at Two Loop in 3-d Massless Scalar Electrodynamics
In three dimensional Maxwell-Chern-Simons massless scalar electrodynamics
with coupling, the symmetry is spontaneously broken at two
loop order regardless of the presence or absence of the Maxwell term.
Dimensional transmutation takes place in pure Chern-Simons scalar
electrodynamics. The beta function for the coupling is independent of
gauge couplings.Comment: 15 pages. LaTex. Theorem 3 is adde
