Synergistic photovoltaic-thermoelectric effect in a nanostructured CdTe/Bi2Te3 heterojunction for hybrid energy harvesting

    Get PDF
Recent advances in the photovoltaic and thermoelectric material synthesis and characterization have engendered significant interest in their solar energy harvesting. However, examples of energy harvesting by the two effects in one single cell are relatively rare, and at present there are no known examples to solve the heat problem in a conventional solar cell. Here we show that a synergistic photovoltaic and thermoelectric effect takes place in a single heterojunction solar cell that consists a p-type CdTe nanorod array and n-type Bi2Te3 nanostructures. This novel cell is capable of converting light and heat into electricity via combined photovoltaic and thermoelectric processes, providing a simple and elegant material structure for development of high efficiency solar cells which can harvest solar energy over a wider solar spectrum. In addition, this discovery may provide a viable solution to the heat problems in conventional solar cells. Based on the synergistic photovoltaic and thermoelectric effect, the cell of FTO/CdS/CdTe/Bi2Te3 has been prepared and an efficiency (η) increase of 23.3% is achieved after 1 min illuminatio

This work describes the effects of different cooking temperatures in repetitive cooking-chilling (RCC) process on resistant starch (RS) content in fish crackers prepared in a ratio of 1:1 fish to sago starch formulation. In this work, three sets of four RCC cycles were performed on fish crackers, in which each set was cooked at fixed temperatures of 100, 115 and 121°C, respectively. The chilling temperature was fixed at 4°C in all cases. Subjecting the fish crackers to a higher cooking temperature for up to 4 cycles of RCC can increase the RS content. However, quality degradation was observed in the characteristics of the fish crackers. During the first RCC cycle, cooking at a higher temperature had caused the crackers to crack and burst. Besides, defragmentation to the shape of the fish cracker gels was also observed during the first RCC cycle, coupled with softer texture and high moisture content. When the products were subjected to frying, their linear expansion decreased, the texture became harder and the colour turned darker. This work demonstrated that the application of higher cooking temperature up to 4 RCC cycles was able to enhance the RS content in the fish crackers, but it was less able to attain the product’s perfect shape. On the contrary, fish crackers that were exposed to lower cooking temperatures contained lower RS but with less shape damage

By looking at previous studies, it has been discovered that motivation and attitudes towards learning English literature could be major factors that future researchers can further look into.

    Get PDF
Homotopy approximation methods (HAM) can be considered as one of the new methods belong to the general classification of the computational methods which can be used to find the numerical solution of many types of the problems in science and engineering. The general problem relates to the flow and the depth of water in open channels such as rivers and canals is a nonlinear algebraic equation which is known as continuity equation. The solution of this equation is the depth of the water. This paper represents attempt to solve the equation of depth and flow using Newton homotopy based on Taylor series. Numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the purposed method using MATLAB language
