Quality-Less” Higher Education: Relationship and Neocolonialism in International Development in Afghanistan

    Get PDF
This study aimed to explore the internal quality assurance and accreditation (QAA) policy at University X in Afghanistan. A single case study and document review methods were chosen to examine the policy implementation process and its perceived effectiveness at a single university. This case study also explored faculty members\u27 perceptions toward QAA, the policy\u27s impact on teaching and learning, and the opportunities and challenges it might offer. The findings of the study produced unexpected and expected results. The expected findings were tailored around social relationships, labor division, the hierarchy of labor, incompatibility of the policy, and their impact on the implementation process. The common findings tapped more directly into the research questions: the policy\u27s perceived effectiveness on teaching and learning, the faculty members\u27 capacity to implement it, and the future of the policy. Many participants did not believe that the approach had enhanced teaching and learning methods. Some stated that QAA had demotivated students from learning and teachers from teaching. The only sub-group that showed a positive reaction was QAA advocates involved with the Ministry of Higher Education regarding QAA implementation

Aluminosilicate sodalites Na8_8(Al6_6Si6_6O2_24_4)Br2_2, Na8_8(Al6_6Si6_6O2_24_4Cl2_2, and Na8_8(Al6_6Si6_6O2_24_4)I2_2, were synthesised and subsequently loaded with various amounts of silver by aqueous ion exchange to produce Na8_8-Agx_x(Al6_6Si6_6O2_24_4)Br22 with x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, Naz8_8-Al6_6Si6_6O2_24_4)I2_2. Characterisation by X-ray powder diffraction and Rietveld refinements showed that for the chloride and bromide systems the substitution of silver for sodium causes a contraction of the unit cell and M-X bonds in the MX4 tetrahedral units in the sodalite cages, with an expansion of the distance of the metal from the framework oxygen atoms. This can be attributed to the increased covalent bonding in an Ag-X bond vs. a Na-X bond. High temperature X-ray powder diffraction studies were then carried out on these systems and it was found that they all displayed positive thermal expansion from room temperature up to 822ºC. The coefficients of thermal expansion for the bromide system showed a clear trend of decreasing with silver doping, but no clear trends for the chloride system or in the thermal expansion of the M-X or M-O distances in either system were found

Language Revitalisation in Gaelic Scotland: Linguistic Practice and Ideology

    Get PDF
Through their native languages, certain groups of people claim political, social, geographical, and ethnic identity and a legal base for their existence. Colonialism, however, has vanished minority spoken languages in many parts of the world. Additionally, despite claims of a “global village,” the advent of internationalization has further isolated indigenous languages in some parts of the world. Revitalizing and preventing those languages from dwindling from their spoken communities is crucial for scholars of linguistics, sociology, cultural studies, and education. Dunmore, in the book Language Revitalisation in Gaelic Scotland: Linguistic Practice and Ideology, offers profound perspectives on preventing the potential loss of Gaelic language in Scotland drawing from empirical research

Reinventing employee morale during Covid Pandemic: Study of psychological contract and job satisfaction of healthcare professionals

    Get PDF
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to comprehend and appraise the impact of employee morale during the COVID pandemic on psychological contract and job satisfaction of healthcare professionals in Indian private Hospitals. Research methodology: The study adopted an empirical analysis. A structured questionnaire was adopted based on the Scale for assessing psychological contract by Rousseau (2000) for collecting primary data through a survey from doctors and nurses in selected private hospitals. Results: The results suggest that managing the healthcare system by focusing on the insight of employee psychological contract and job satisfaction can improve employee morale during crisis conditions like the COVID-19 pandemic among the doctors and nurses in the healthcare sector. Limitations: Due to COVID 19 pandemic, it was difficult to get responses from healthcare professionals. Contribution: This paper aims to support the healthcare sector by recommending the building of employee morale and fulfilling the psychological contract to achieve job satisfaction of healthcare professionals in the healthcare sector

Mobile Learning: An Approach to Improve the Quantity of Educational Attainment in Conflict Hit Areas Like J&K The days are gone when mobile was considered a big distraction in the study. We can make best use of mobile in achieving educational attributes by improving both quantity and quality of education and this approach is simply called mobile learning. This paper presents an outlook of making best use of mobile learning to increase the educational attainment, especially in conflict hit areas, where strikes, curfew and processions, demonstrations become the hurdle in the normal working hours in the educational system. Here we have taken an example of Jammu and Kashmir, where the security climate is vulnerable from last more than thirty years and peace is a major concern at present. In this situation a fear among the student community to go schools has risen to a level, which ultimately affects the education system badly. In most of the cases, the syllabus is not completed in the schools due to shortage of effective class hours. To tackle this situation, the mobile learning could be the best remedial measure to address this issue

World Peace and Contemporary Security Issues: An Outlook

World peace is endangered by increasing terroristic activities in the whole world. People feel insecure every time. There was a time when people lived without scaring but now human beings are being intimidated by terrorizing human beings. In the Modern time the world has turned to be known as global village but it has indeed turned into an object of fragile insecurities. There are innumerable threats looming large on human beings every time. Almost all walks of life human beings are subject to serious insecurities and life is becoming more and more insecure day by day. To bring out prominent fields of concern in contemporary world, a study from tradition to modernity is inevitable. A traditional definition of the state, given by Max Weber, called as an imperative condition the effective monopoly on the use or licensing of violence within a given land.  The security of countries was threatened heavily by various changes in the concern and commitment of the people. So it has threatened the existence of human beings. In many times it is through external invasion or internal rebellion.  Since 1945, in contrast, the most significant threats to state security have been internal rather than external. It means a shift which has only accelerated and which may have profound consequences for the conduct of international relations. It is a matter to be grieved about

Women\u27s Empowerment Through the Use of Technology

    Get PDF
Technology has shaped people’s lifestyles globally. Today, the majority of the world’s population seeks help through technology as a portal to learning with the wide variety of learning materials available. Women in both developed and developing countries can access learning through technology, yet the scholarly community do not have an up-to-date collective view of how technology is being used to provide learning materials to empower women around the world. Therefore, this systematic review included an aggregated and qualitative synthesis to investigate extant empirical work over five years, 2017-2021. Following a rigorous PRISMA selection process, 40 articles were included in the final analysis from 80 countries. The findings reveal that the majority (60%) of studies took place in Sub-Saharan Africa. From the grounded coding, five industries emerged as areas providing empowerment through the learning materials: health, agriculture, environment, entrepreneurship, and communication. Women were empowered by learning in three main areas: health, communication, and entrepreneurship. This study provides information for funders, policymakers, advocates, and women. This study revealed areas in need of future research, including additional systematic reviews to explore gray literature not published in scholarly outlets and academic publications published in non-English language journals
