New Variants of Pattern Matching with Constants and Variables
Given a text and a pattern over two types of symbols called constants and
variables, the parameterized pattern matching problem is to find all
occurrences of substrings of the text that the pattern matches by substituting
a variable in the text for each variable in the pattern, where the substitution
should be injective. The function matching problem is a variant of it that
lifts the injection constraint. In this paper, we discuss variants of those
problems, where one can substitute a constant or a variable for each variable
of the pattern. We give two kinds of algorithms for both problems, a
convolution-based method and an extended KMP-based method, and analyze their

Spectroscopic Properties of QSOs Selected from Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxy Samples
We performed spectroscopic observations for a large infrared QSO sample with
a total of 25 objects. The sample was compiled from the QDOT redshift survey,
the 1 Jy ULIRGs survey and a sample obtained by a cross-correlation study of
the IRAS Point Source Catalogue with the ROSAT All Sky Survey Catalogue.
Statistical analyses of the optical spectra show that the vast majority of
infrared QSOs have narrow permitted emission lines (with FWHM of Hbeta less
than 4000 km/s) and more than 60% of them are luminous narrow line Seyfert 1
galaxies. Two of the infrared QSOs are also classified as low ionization BAL
QSOs. More than 70% of infrared QSOs are moderately or extremely strong Fe II
emitters. This is the highest percentage of strong Fe II emitters in all
subclasses of QSO/Seyfert 1 samples. We found that the Fe II to Hbeta, line
ratio is significantly correlated with the [OIII]5007 peak and Hbeta blueshift.
Soft X-ray weak infrared QSOs tend to have large blueshifts in permitted
emission lines and significant Fe II48,49 (5100--5400 A) residuals relative to
the Boroson & Green Fe II template. If the blueshifts in permitted lines are
caused by outflows, then they appear to be common in infrared QSOs. As the
infrared-selected QSO sample includes both luminous narrow line Seyfert 1
galaxies and low ionization BAL QSOs, it could be a useful laboratory to

A Clinical and Epidemiological Investigation of the First Reported Human Infection With the Zoonotic Parasite Trypanosoma evansi in Southeast Asia
Background. Trypanosoma is a genus of unicellular parasitic flagellate protozoa. Trypanosoma brucei species and Trypanosoma cruzi are the major agents of human trypanosomiasis; other Trypanosoma species can cause human disease, but are rare. In March 2015, a 38-year-old woman presented to a healthcare facility in southern Vietnam with fever, headache, and arthralgia. Microscopic examination of blood revealed infection with Trypanosoma. Methods. Microscopic observation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of blood samples, and serological testing were performed to identify the infecting species. The patient's blood was screened for the trypanocidal protein apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1), and a field investigation was performed to identify the zoonotic source. Results. PCR amplification and serological testing identified the infecting species as Trypanosoma evansi. Despite relapsing 6 weeks after completing amphotericin B therapy, the patient made a complete recovery after 5 weeks of suramin. The patient was found to have 2 wild-type APOL1 alleles and a normal serum APOL1 concentration. After responsive animal sampling in the presumed location of exposure, cattle and/or buffalo were determined to be the most likely source of the infection, with 14 of 30 (47%) animal blood samples testing PCR positive for T. evansi. Conclusions. We report the first laboratory-confirmed case of T. evansi in a previously healthy individual without APOL1 deficiency, potentially contracted via a wound while butchering raw beef, and successfully treated with suramin. A linked epidemiological investigation revealed widespread and previously unidentified burden of T. evansi in local cattle, highlighting the need for surveillance of this infection in animals and the possibility of further human cases
Scalar meson and glueball decays within a effective chiral approach
We study the strong and electromagnetic decay properties of scalar mesons
above 1 GeV within a chiral approach. The scalar-isoscalar states are treated
as mixed states of quarkonia and glueball configurations. A fit to the
experimental decay rates listed by the Particle Data group is performed to
extract phenomenological constraints on the nature of the scalar resonances. A
comparison to other theoretical approaches in the scalar meson sector is

Pseudo-epsilon expansion and the two-dimensional Ising model
Starting from the five-loop renormalization-group expansions for the
two-dimensional Euclidean scalar \phi^4 field theory (field-theoretical version
of two-dimensional Ising model), pseudo-\epsilon expansions for the Wilson
fixed point coordinate g*, critical exponents, and the sextic effective
coupling constant g_6 are obtained. Pseudo-\epsilon expansions for g*, inverse
susceptibility exponent \gamma, and g_6 are found to possess a remarkable
property - higher-order terms in these expansions turn out to be so small that
accurate enough numerical estimates can be obtained using simple Pade
approximants, i. e. without addressing resummation procedures based upon the

A new q-binomial theorem for Macdonald polynomials is employed to prove an
A_n analogue of the celebrated Selberg integral. This confirms the g=A_n case
of a conjecture by Mukhin and Varchenko concerning the existence of a Selberg
