Conformal Window of Gauge Theories with Four-Fermion Interactions and Ideal Walking
We investigate the effects of four-fermion interactions on the phase diagram
of strongly interacting theories for any representation as function of the
number of colors and flavors. We show that the conformal window, for any
representation, shrinks with respect to the case in which the four-fermion
interactions are neglected. The anomalous dimension of the mass increases
beyond the unity value at the lower boundary of the new conformal window. We
plot the new phase diagram which can be used, together with the information
about the anomalous dimension, to propose ideal models of walking technicolor.
We discover that when the extended technicolor sector, responsible for giving
masses to the standard model fermions, is sufficiently strongly coupled the
technicolor theory, in isolation, must have an infrared fixed point for the
full model to be phenomenologically viable. Using the new phase diagram we show
that the simplest one family and minimal walking technicolor models are the
archetypes of models of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. Our
predictions can be verified via first principle lattice simulations.Comment: RevTeX4, 22 pages, 16 figure
Ground State at Low Landau Level Filling Factors in Two-Dimensional Systems of GaAs/AlGaAs Heterostructures in Strong Magnetic Fields(Research in High Magnetic Fields)
Integer and fractional quantum Hall effects are interesting phenomena in two-dimensional electron systems (2DES) in strong magnetic fields. In this paper, breakdown of the integer quantum Hall effect (IQHE) at odd integer filling factors at 100 mK and temperature dependence of the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) around the filling facor Μ=1/2 at temperatures between 100 mK and 1000 mK in magnetic fields up to 25 T are measured for the 2DES in two AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructures. The results in the IQHE measurements are compared with results at the even filling factors and derive the effective g-factor of about 10 in this system. The results in the FQHE measurements at Μ=1/2 shows a logarithmic temperature dependence of the conductivity which is expected in a weakly localized Fermion system in zero magnetic fields

Basin structure in the two-dimensional dissipative circle map
Fractal basin structure in the two-dimensional dissipative circle map is
examined in detail. Numerically obtained basin appears to be riddling in the
parameter region where two periodic orbits co-exist near a boundary crisis, but
it is shown to consist of layers of thin bands.Comment: published in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn., 72, 1943-1947 (2003
Laccase-catalyzed decolorization of the synthetic azo-dye diamond black PV 200 and of some structurally related derivatives
The kinetics of laccase-catalyzed transformation of the azo-dye Diamond Black PV 200 (CI Mordant Black 9) and various related synthesized derivatives were analyzed for dependence on pH and substrate structure. The reaction mixture of Diamond Black PV 200 was analyzed
by HPLC/MS_/MS and it was shown that upon laccase oxidation, reactive chinoid fragments of lower molecular weight were formed. These may further oligomerize as indicated by the appearance of a number of compounds
with increased molecular weight. The pH optimum for the decolorization was pH 5 for Diamond Black PV 200 which did not change significantly when the substitution pattern of its basic structure was varied. Biodegradability, however, was strongly dependent on the structure of the dyes
Pseudo Goldstone Bosons Phenomenology in Minimal Walking Technicolor
We construct the non-linear realized Lagrangian for the Goldstone Bosons
associated to the breaking pattern of SU(4) to SO(4). This pattern is expected
to occur in any Technicolor extension of the standard model featuring two Dirac
fermions transforming according to real representations of the underlying gauge
group. We concentrate on the Minimal Walking Technicolor quantum number
assignments with respect to the standard model symmetries. We demonstrate that
for, any choice of the quantum numbers, consistent with gauge and Witten
anomalies the spectrum of the pseudo Goldstone Bosons contains electrically
doubly charged states which can be discovered at the Large Hadron Collider.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figure

Comprehensive Modeling of Multimode Fiber Sensors for Refractive Index Measurement and Experimental Validation
We propose and develop a comprehensive model for estimating the refractive index (RI) response over three potential sensing zones in a multimode fiber. The model has been developed based on a combined ray optics, Gaussian beam, and wave optics analysis coupled to the consideration of the injected interrogating lightwave characteristics and validated experimentally through the realization of three sensors with different lengths of stripped cladding sections as the sensing region. The experimental results highly corroborate and validate the simulation output from the model for the three RI sensing zones. The sensors can be employed over a very wide dynamic RI range from 1.316 to over 1.608 at a wavelength of 1550ânm, with the best resolution of 2.2447âĂâ10â5 RI unit (RIU) obtained in Zone II for a 1-cm sensor length
Delineating the conformal window
We identify and characterise the conformal window in gauge theories relevant
for beyond the standard model building, e.g. Technicolour, using the criteria
of metric confinement and causal analytic couplings, which are known to be
consistent with the phase diagram of supersymmetric QCD from Seiberg duality.
Using these criteria we find perturbation theory to be consistent throughout
the predicted conformal window for several of these gauge theories and we
discuss recent lattice results in the light of our findings.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
