This qualitative study aimed to explore the perspectives and experiences of students and teachers at PAU Excellencia Global Academy Foundation, Inc. in online teaching and learning. The study gathered data through in-depth interviews with 10 students and 10 teachers. The findings of the study revealed four main themes: (1) advantages of online teaching and learning, (2) challenges of online teaching and learning, (3) pedagogical strategies for online teaching and learning, and (4) recommendations for improving online teaching and learning. The participants identified several advantages of online teaching and learning, including flexibility, convenience, and accessibility. Participants also noted that online learning can be more cost-effective than traditional classroom-based learning. However, participants also identified several challenges, such as technical difficulties and poor internet connectivity, as well as the potential for isolation and the lack of face-to-face interaction. To address these challenges, participants recommended the use of effective communication and feedback, as well as the use of multimedia tools to enhance student engagement. Teachers also emphasized the importance of creating engaging online content that encourages student participation and active learning. Participants suggested the implementation of regular check-ins with students and the provision of academic support and resources. These findings provide valuable insights into the perspectives and experiences of students and teachers in online teaching and learning and can inform the development of effective online teaching and learning systems at PAU and other educational institutions in the Philippines

Self Consistent Molecular Field Theory for Packing in Classical Liquids

Building on a quasi-chemical formulation of solution theory, this paper proposes a self consistent molecular field theory for packing problems in classical liquids, and tests the theoretical predictions for the excess chemical potential of the hard sphere fluid. Results are given for the self consistent molecular fields obtained, and for the probabilities of occupancy of a molecular observation volume. For this system, the excess chemical potential predicted is as accurate as the most accurate prior theories, particularly the scaled particle (Percus-Yevick compressibility) theory. It is argued that the present approach is particularly simple, and should provide a basis for a molecular-scale description of more complex solutions.Comment: 6 pages and 5 figure

Non-spherical granular flows down inclined chutes

In this work, we numerically examine the steady-state granular flow of 3D non-spherical particles down an inclined plane. We use a hybrid CPU/GPU implementation of the discrete element method of nonspherical elongated particles. Thus, a systematic study of the system response is performed varying the particle aspect ratio and the plane inclination. Similarly to the case of spheres, we observe three well-defined regimes: arresting flows, steady uniform flows and accelerating flows. Both steady and dynamic macroscopic fields are derived from microscopic data, by time-averaging and spatial smoothing (coarse-graining), including density, velocity, as well as the kinetic and contact stress tensors. The internal morphology of the flow was quantified exploring the solid fraction profiles and the particle orientation distribution. Furthermore, the system¿s characteristic time and length scales are investigated in detail. Our aim is to achieve a continuum mechanical description of granular flows composed of non-spherical particles based on the micromechanical details. Thus, to evaluate the influence of particle shape on the constitutive response in granular of those systems. However, to meet the proceeding¿s page restrictions here we will only discuss the dependence of some terms of the continuum averaged equations on the coarse-graining scale, specifically the case of the kinetic part of the stress tensor

Human Interaction in Learning Ecosystems based on Open Source Solutions

    Get PDF
Technological ecosystems are software solutions based on the integration of heterogeneous software components through information flows in order to provide a set of services that each component separately does not offer, as well as to improve the user experience. In particular, the learning ecosystems are technological ecosystems focused on learning and knowledge management in different contexts such as educational institutions or companies. The ecosystem metaphor comes from biology field and it has transferred to technology field to highlight the evolving component of software. Taking into account the definitions of natural ecosystems, a technological ecosystem is a set of people and software components that play the role of organisms; a series of elements that allow the ecosystem works (hardware, networks, etc.); and a set of information flows that establish the relationships between the software components, and between these and the people involved in the ecosystem. Human factor has a main role in the definition and development of this kind of solutions. In previous works, a metamodel has been defined and validated to support Model-Driven Development of learning ecosystems based on Open Source software, but the interaction in the learning ecosystem should be defined in order to complete the proposal to improve the development process of technological ecosystems. This paper presents the definition and modelling of the human interaction in learning ecosystem

Objective: Thirty percent of the patients for whom code stroke is activated have stroke mimics, the most common being epilepsy. Our purpose was to evaluate the usefulness of multiparametric CT for differentiating between seizure-related symptoms and vascular events. Material and methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study; data were gathered prospectively during one year. We studied multiparametric CT images of patients admitted following code stroke activation and finally diagnosed with epilepsy. Results: The study included a total of 11 patients; 36% were men and mean age was 74.5 years. Three patients had right hemisphere syndrome, 4 displayed left hemisphere syndrome, and the remaining 4 had isolated aphasia. Maximum time from symptom onset to multiparametric CT study was 8.16 hours. Perfusion CT results were normal in 2 patients. Nine patients showed longer or shorter times to peak (Tmax); cerebral blood volume (CBV) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) maps varied. EEG was performed a maximum of 47.6 hours after symptom onset. Four patients showed findings compatible with status epilepticus, 2 displayed focal epileptiform activity, and 5 showed post-ictal slowing ipsilateral to perfusion CT abnormalities. Conclusion: The most sensitive parameter for differentiating between stroke and epilepsy in our series was increased time to peak in multilobar cortical locations in the absence of largevessel occlusion and basal ganglia involvement. Multiparametric CT is a fast, readily available, and useful tool for the differential diagnosis of acute-onset neurological signs of epileptic originin patients initially attended after code stroke activatio
