Background: Narcissism is a condition in which people have a constant demand to be complimented and prioritized. Self-esteem is a subjective evaluation of one's worth. Several studies have linked narcissism and low self-esteem as a risk factor of social media addiction, a disorder where individuals displayed an unhealthy compulsion to access social media until it disrupts other activities. This study aimed to discover the relationship between narcissism, self-esteem, and social media addiction in preclinical medical students. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional observational analytical study on 211 preclinical medical students at the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Instruments used in this study were Narcissistic Personality Inventory-16 (NPI-16), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS). Data were analyzed statistically using Chi-square in STATA analytic program. Results: Of all respondents, 6.6% were narcissistic, 19.9% had low self-esteem, and 34.6% had social media addiction. There was a significant relationship between narcissism and social media addiction (p=0.021) and between self-esteem and social media addiction (p=0.002).Conclusion: There is a relationship between narcissism, self-esteem, and social media addiction in university students. This indicates the importance of preliminary psychological screening in students, especially regarding self-esteem, narcissism, and social media addiction, to develop approaches that will ensure good academic achievements and physical health among students

Food Addiction Prevalence and its Association with COVID-19 Related Stress among Clinical Rotation Medical Students in Jakarta

Introduction: This study investigated the relationship between food addiction and stress among clinical rotation medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. While prior research has examined the impact of mental and physical well-being on medical students, the exploration of food addiction in this demographic has been limited. Methods: The survey study includes 355 clinical-level medical students. Stress levels are assessed using the Coronavirus Stress Measure (CSM) questionnaire, while food addiction is evaluated with the Yale Food Addiction Scale 2.0 questionnaire. Comparative analysis was performed to see the association between food addiction and the stress level related to COVID-19. Results: Both questionnaires indicate good validity and reliability measures. Medical students exhibited lower stress levels during the pandemic than the general population. Approximately 30.1% of students showed signs of food addiction, with most cases classified as mild. Food addiction was significantly higher among women, partially influenced by the dominant presence of female students. The study reveals a significant connection between food addiction and stress levels among medical students (p<0.001). Those with moderate and severe food addiction experience notably higher stress (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study highlights the prevalence of food addiction among medical students and its association with increased stress levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. It underscores the need for further research and support mechanisms to address food addiction and stress management among medical students, ultimately promoting their overall well-being and academic success

Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Ericsson) is a Swedish telecom company with branches all over the world. It is not a secret that a company with branches in several diverse cultures has to decide what extent the organization will go in adapting the host culture into the new branch. This essay will focus on Ericsson and a few cases on how well Ericsson decided to incorporate host cultures into their organization. The cases picked will mainly be in Asia due to the greater cultural difference between the Asian host culture and their European home culture

Frontiers in Marine Science, 6, (2019):257, doi:10.3389/fmars.2019.00257.The Indonesian seas play a fundamental role in the coupled ocean and climate system with the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) providing the only tropical pathway connecting the global oceans. Pacific warm pool waters passing through the Indonesian seas are cooled and freshened by strong air-sea fluxes and mixing from internal tides to form a unique water mass that can be tracked across the Indian Ocean basin and beyond. The Indonesian seas lie at the climatological center of the atmospheric deep convection associated with the ascending branch of the Walker Circulation. Regional SST variations cause changes in the surface winds that can shift the center of atmospheric deep convection, subsequently altering the precipitation and ocean circulation patterns within the entire Indo-Pacific region. Recent multi-decadal changes in the wind and buoyancy forcing over the tropical Indo-Pacific have directly affected the vertical profile, strength, and the heat and freshwater transports of the ITF. These changes influence the large-scale sea level, SST, precipitation and wind patterns. Observing long-term changes in mass, heat and freshwater within the Indonesian seas is central to understanding the variability and predictability of the global coupled climate system. Although substantial progress has been made over the past decade in measuring and modeling the physical and biogeochemical variability within the Indonesian seas, large uncertainties remain. A comprehensive strategy is needed for measuring the temporal and spatial scales of variability that govern the various water mass transport streams of the ITF, its connection with the circulation and heat and freshwater inventories and associated air-sea fluxes of the regional and global oceans. This white paper puts forward the design of an observational array using multi-platforms combined with high-resolution models aimed at increasing our quantitative understanding of water mass transformation rates and advection within the Indonesian seas and their impacts on the air-sea climate system. The sustainability report is one of the company's accountability and transparency tools, in relation to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainability reports are important to stakeholders in relation to the company's Social and Environmental Responsibility. The increase in sustainability reporting as a result of the company's obligation to comply with the rules of the Government of Indonesia needs to be reviewed for compliance with the applicable and widely used reporting standards. GRI Standards as a widely used standard have extensive and interrelated preparation guidelines, with its reporting principles, namely the content principle and the quality principle as the basis for the preparation that must be applied. This study aims to determine and compare the compliance of sustainability reporting with the reporting principles of the GRI Standards. The object of the research is the companies listed in the SRI-KEHATI index on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2018-2021. The data collection technique in this research is the observation technique and the sample selection technique is the purposive sampling technique. The content analysis method is used as the research analysis technique. The results of this study indicate that in accordance with the indicators of reporting principles, the highest score obtained for the quantitative approach of content principle is the sustainability context principle, the highest score for the qualitative approach of content principle is the completeness principle, and the highest score for the qualitative and quantitative approaches of quality principle is the balance principle

Perforin forms transient pores on the target cell plasma membrane to facilitate rapid access of granzymes during killer cell attack

    No full text
Cytotoxic lymphocytes serve a key role in immune homeostasis by eliminating virus-infected and transformed target cells through the perforin-dependent delivery of proapoptotic granzymes. However, the mechanism of granzyme entry into cells remains unresolved. Using biochemical approaches combined with time-lapse microscopy of human primary cytotoxic lymphocytes engaging their respective targets, we defined the time course of perforin pore formation in the context of the physiological immune synapse. We show that, on recognition of targets, calcium influx into the lymphocyte led to perforin exocytosis and target cell permeabilization in as little as 30 seconds. Within the synaptic cleft, target cell permeabilization by perforin resulted in the rapid diffusion of extracellular milieu–derived granzymes. Repair of these pores was initiated within 20 seconds and was completed within 80 seconds, thus limiting granzyme diffusion. Remarkably, even such a short time frame was sufficient for the delivery of lethal amounts of granzymes into the target cell. Rapid initiation of apoptosis was evident from caspase-dependent target cell rounding within 2 minutes of perforin permeabilization. This study defines the final sequence of events controlling cytotoxic lymphocyte immune defense, in which perforin pores assemble on the target cell plasma membrane, ensuring efficient delivery of lethal granzymes
