One of the vital works before a construction begin was a site investigation which was the site exploration to gain the result for the soil characteristics at the construction area. By undergo some necessary required test such as deep borehole logs, water level measurement, JKR Probe, standard penetration test (SPT) and others, the engineers able to design a suitable, safety and economic structures for the building. Usually, the report for the site investigation was in a hard copy and it required a lot of papers for one site investigation report. Other than that, it hard to retrieve the data for site investigation report from all places in one time because of the data was in different hard copy. To solve this matter, a database system for soil characteristic was developed to make all the site investigation data report easily to retrieve in one time and able to be updated from time to time if there was any new result obtained. This database system was developed for Kuantan area only. There were 16 site investigation report data was successfully collected and had been placed in one database system. The tools that had been used to develop this database system were Geographical Information System (GIS) and Visual basic 6.0 (VB6.0). GIS tool was used to provide the map for Kuantan areas. Meanwhile, VB6.0 was used to make the interface design and created the database system for the site investigation data report. To ensure that the map from GIS tools were able to relate with the database system from VB6.0, a hyperlink was created. So, by selecting the site investigation point from the map in GIS, the result of the site investigation appeared easily without used much time. Lastly, this database system would be one of the necessary database systems in construction field because of it availability to retrieve data easily and all the site investigation data was placed in one database system

An EtOH solution of 3-ketobutanehydrazide and salicylhydrazide on refluxing in equimolar ratio forms the corresponding Schiff base, LH3 (1). The latter reacts with Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Zr(OH)2(IV), MoO2(VI), and UO2(VI) ions in equimolar ratio and forms the corresponding coordination compounds, [M(LH)(MeOH)3] (2, M = Mn, Co, Ni), [Cu(LH)]2 (3), [M′(LH)(MeOH)] (4, M′ = Zn, Cd), [Zr(OH)2(LH)(MeOH)2] (5), [MoO2(LH)(MeOH)] (6), and [UO2(LH)(MeOH)] (7). The coordination compounds have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductance, spectral (IR, reflectance, 1H NMR, ESR) studies, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. They are nonelectrolytes in DMSO. The coordination compounds, except 3, are monomers in diphenyl. They are active against gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus, B. subtilis), gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, P. aeruginosa), and yeast (S. cerevisiae, C. albicans). 1 acts as a dibasic tridentate ONO donor ligand in 2–7 coordinating through its both enolic O and azomethine N atoms. The coordination compounds 2 and 3 are paramagnetic, while rest of the compounds are diamagnetic. A square-planar structure to 3, a tetrahedral structure to 4, an octahedral structure to 2, 6, and 7, and a pentagonal bipyramidal structure to 5 are proposed

Concurrency is a process where multiple simultaneous transactions of data in database system perform. Due to this condition, the concurrency control method can help and avoid the data inconsistencies when the system is accessed by the user. This paper elaborately discusses the distributed database in the aspect of concurrency control techniques. This research reviews three algorithms; DSL, VGA, and SBA in terms of the waiting time, validation, performance, delay and also the number of message exchange. SBA shows the best performance among others. Meanwhile, a comparison between FBS and S2PL be done in order to measure the time of response in high and low-security level. In Addition, the fairness level of the system also been measured. It is shown that FBS shows an improving of time and positive result when dealing with a high-security level performance of the transaction. FBS also improved in terms of fairness at the different level of security

Assessing Political Dynamics in Contemporary Malaysia: Implications for Democratic Change

    No full text
This article examines political dynamics in Malaysia and assesses the prospects for change in the direction of greater political liberalization. It focuses on the 12th General Election of 2008 and its implications for opportunities and challenges for liberal democratic change in Malaysia. It discusses the role of the internet-based new media in shaping an emerging public sphere, and some factors affecting the changing role of non-Malay voters in the political process. This article argues that democratization in Malaysia is already occurring, albeit at a gradual pace; it is being pushed by the new political forces of civil society actors, newly empowered opposition parties, and the internet-based media. The boundaries of this emerging democratic space is simultaneously being shaped and contested by the political competition between status-quo and reformist forces in this society. Some institutional changes have expanded the parameters of democratic space, although the entrenched dominant institutions of the ruling regime continue to wield sufficient amounts of institutional capacity to subvert any consolidation of these democratic changes for now
