Perfiles geológicos de las Sierras Australes de la provincia de Buenos Aires

Se presentan una serie de perfiles geológicos transversales a las estructuras que conforman el sistema conocido como Sierras Australes, con el objeto de aclarar las condiciones estructurales de los diferentes complejos litológicos que lo componen. Para ello se escogieron las abras o sectores de especial interés, en los que, dadas las características de los afloramientos, era posible esperar una mayor cantidad de información. Los perfiles más importantes son el Perfil III, Tornquist-Abra de la Ventana, y el VI, Sierra de Pillahuincó, los que adicionados cruzan la totalidad de las Sierras. En todos los puntos estudiados se hicieron mediciones de rumbo e inclinación de las estructuras, se recogieron muestras de las rocas aflorantes, las que se clasificaron macroscópicamente en campaña. La reconstrucción tiene carácter hipotético dado lo complicado del estilo de plegamiento.We present a series of geological profiles transversal to the formation that conform the system named Austral Sierras, with the purpose of clarifying the structural conditions of various lithological complexes that compose them. We have chose for this the most interesting gaps or sectors, in which, owing to the outcrops properties, it was possible to obtain a greater amount of information. The most important profiles are Profile III, Tornquist-Abra de la Ventana, and VI, Sierra de Pillahiunco. They cross together the whole Sierras. Strike and dip measurements have been made in all studied sites, samples of the outcropping rocks have been collected and macroscopically classified in the place. Law Enforcement Officers’ Perceptions in Regard to Sex Offenders, SORN, and Residency Restrictions Laws

The purpose of this study was to extend current knowledge regarding law enforcement’s perceptions of sex offenders. Law enforcement’s views of sex offenders and the fairness and efficacy of sex offender laws were examined through the utilization of a 60 closed-ended question survey. The survey included questions about sex offender myths, sex offender laws, police officers’ experience in working with sex offenders, specialized training, and demographics. The sample consisted of 74 sworn police officers from a Southeastern state. The results showed that, despite having a mostly empirical based view of sex offenders, sworn police officers were likely to support sex offender laws shown by some scholars to be ineffective in reducing crime and at times counterproductive

Las estrellas de Hollywood como prescriptores en el spot publicitario: un activo para las marcas y anunciantes

It is true that the prescriber is characterized by recommending and speak well about the qualities and benefits of a brand, product or service. However, given the postmodern society in which we live we conceive that advertising with film star uses a more indirect narrative concept, to the point that almost seems no prescription. Whereupon, the article, based on an analysis of a sample of 41 spots argues that reputation, transtextuality and mythic power of the Hollywood star are the reasons leading brands to engage actors in Hollywood and roll spots that waive the requirement for another sustained direct what is called in Narratology enunciadoras or discursive instances where the author / s (for us the actor), the implied author (for us the star) and the character of the story, involved convey the idea of the advertiser. This is explained further how the famous benefits of brand recognition and brand awareness and image of the prescriber. Notoriety, transtextualidad and power become legendary for the brand in what Aaker (2002) active calls. This will force us to determine: the reputation of the actor on par with the brand, features and roles of characters and the image of the star. What happens to these three levels favors announced the sale of the object and at the same time, a confluence between these narrative elements and visibility, identity and brand values occurs.Es cierto que el prescriptor se caracteriza por recomendar y hablar bien sobre las cualidades y beneficios de una marca, producto o servicio. Sin embargo, dada la sociedad postmoderna en la que vivimos, concebimos, que la publicidad con estrella cinematográfica se sirve de un concepto narrativo más indirecto, al punto que casi parece que no hay prescripción. Con lo cual, el artículo, a partir del análisis de una muestra de 41 spots sostiene, que la notoriedad, la transtextualidad y el poder mítico de la estrella hollywoodense son las razones que llevan a las marcas a contratar actores de Hollywood y rodar spots que renuncian a la prescripción directa por otra sostenida sobre lo que en Narratología se llama, instancias enunciadoras o discursivas, donde el autor/es (para nosotros el actor), el autor implícito (para nosotros la estrella) y el personaje de la historia, intervienen para transmitir la idea del anunciante. Se trata de explicar, además, cómo el famoso se beneficia del reconocimiento de las marcas y las marcas de la notoriedad e imagen del prescriptor. Notoriedad, transtextualidad y poder mítico se convierten para la marca en lo que Aaker (2002) llama activos. Ello nos obligará a determinar: la notoriedad del actor en equivalencia con la marca, rasgos y roles del personajes y la imagen de la estrella. Lo que sucede a estos tres niveles favorece la venta del objeto anunciado y, al mismo tiempo, se produce una confluencia entre estos elementos narrativos y la notoriedad, identidad y valores de marca

Estimating and Verifying Household Potential to Conserve Water

This thesis identifies impacts of behaviors and technology on residential indoor water use and conservation efforts. We use pre-existing detailed end-use data collected before and after toilets, faucets, showerheads, and clothes washers were retrofitted in 96 owner-occupied, single-family households in Oakland, California; Seattle, Washington; and Tampa, Florida between 2000 and 2003. Water volume, duration of use, and time of use were recorded and disaggregated by appliance for two weeks before and four weeks after appliances were retrofitted. For each appliance, we compare observed differences in water use before and after retrofits to water savings predicted by analytical engineering, semi-analytical engineering, and econometric regression methods. Results show that observed and predicted distributions of water savings are skewed with a small number of households showing potential to save more water. Results also show the relative and significant influence on water saved of both technological (flow rates of appliances) and behavioral (length of use, frequency of use) factors. Additionally, the number of residents, and the performance and the frequency of use of the appliance are the key factors that distinguish households that save the most water from households that save less. Study results help improve engineering methods to estimate water savings from retrofits and allow water utilities to better target subcategories of households that have potential to save more water

Tratamiento del fenómeno de fatiga isotérmica mediante la mecánica de medios continuos

En el presente trabajo se desarrolla un nuevo modelo constitutivo, basado en la mecánica de medios continuos, que permite modelizar el comportamiento a fatiga isotérmica bajo cargas periódicas. Este modelo abre la posibilidad de tratar en forma conjunta fenómenos acoplados, tales como la combinación de fatiga con daño, plasticidad, fenómenos viscosos y temperatura. Se presenta una formulación basada en la teoría de la plasticidad y daño y se establecen las modificaciones necesarias a realizar en estas teorías para garantizar la inclusión del fenómeno de fatiga. Por último se muestran las cualidades del modelo mediante un ejemplo que permite deducir sus capacidades.Peer Reviewe
