Sinergismo do Licopeno e Outras Drogas Contra o Câncer: uma prospecção tecnológica

The present study aimed to conduct a prospective study on the use of lycopene, with antitumor activity proven in the literature, in addition to other antitumor drugs in the fight against cancer, for this purpose research was carried out in the INPI, USPTO, ESPACENET patent databases and WIPO, as well as scientific articles in the PubMed, Web of ScienceTM, Scopus and Scielo databases, using specific Boolean keywords and operators, used in the search field related to the title or summary of the files. There was a low number of documents regarding the application of lycopene against cancer and the lack of patents exploring the synergistic potential with other drugs. In addition, in the databases of scientific articles and patents, few files were found related to the anti-cancer activity of lycopene and its synergistic effect, reinforcing the innovative character of research involving the use of this carotenoid.O presente trabalho tem como objetivo realizar um estudo prospectivo sobre a utilização do licopeno, com atividade antitumoral comprovada em literatura, em adição a outras drogas antitumorais no combate ao câncer. Para tanto, foram realizadas pesquisas nos bancos de dados de patentes como INPI, USPTO, Espacenet e WIPO, bem como em artigos científicos nas bases PubMed, Web of ScienceTM, Scopus e Scielo, com o uso de palavras-chave e de operadores boleanos específicos, utilizados no campo de busca relativo ao título ou ao resumo dos arquivos. Verificou-se um baixo número de documentos referentes à aplicação do licopeno contra o câncer e a inexistência de patentes explorando o potencial sinérgico com outras drogas. Além disso, nas bases de dados de artigos científicos e patentes, foram encontrados poucos arquivos relacionados com a atividade anticâncer do licopeno e seu efeito sinérgico, reforçando o caráter inovador das pesquisas que envolvem o uso desse carotenoide

Fatores de risco associados ao desenvolvimento da síndrome metabólica em crianças e adolescentes

Resumo Objetivo Analisar a frequência de fatores de risco cardiovascular, entre crianças e adolescentes, e sua associação com a síndrome metabólica. Métodos Estudo analítico e quantitativo em uma amostra estratificada de 421 crianças e adolescentes de 9 a 19 anos selecionados por amostragem aleatória simples em 12 escolas públicas municipais localizadas na Região Nordeste do Brasil. Investigaram-se os fatores sedentarismo e excesso ponderal. A síndrome metabólica foi identificada a partir dos critérios adaptados para a idade. Resultados Houve prevalência de 4,1% de síndrome metabólica. Eram sedentários 30,2% e 20,5% apresentaram excesso ponderal, sendo que valores mais elevados de índice de massa corporal estiveram associados à presença de síndrome. Pressão arterial média, triglicerídeos, glicemia e circunferência abdominal estavam aumentados em 11,9%, 20,9%, 0,5%, 8,6% dos investigados, respectivamente; 26,1% apresentaram HDL-c baixo. Conclusão Parcela substancial dos envolvidos apresentou fatores de risco avaliados, bem como associação do excesso ponderal com componentes da síndrome

NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES: a data set on carnivore distribution in the Neotropics

Mammalian carnivores are considered a key group in maintaining ecological health and can indicate potential ecological integrity in landscapes where they occur. Carnivores also hold high conservation value and their habitat requirements can guide management and conservation plans. The order Carnivora has 84 species from 8 families in the Neotropical region: Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Otariidae; Phocidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae. Herein, we include published and unpublished data on native terrestrial Neotropical carnivores (Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae). NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES is a publicly available data set that includes 99,605 data entries from 35,511 unique georeferenced coordinates. Detection/non-detection and quantitative data were obtained from 1818 to 2018 by researchers, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private consultants. Data were collected using several methods including camera trapping, museum collections, roadkill, line transect, and opportunistic records. Literature (peer-reviewed and grey literature) from Portuguese, Spanish and English were incorporated in this compilation. Most of the data set consists of detection data entries (n = 79,343; 79.7%) but also includes non-detection data (n = 20,262; 20.3%). Of those, 43.3% also include count data (n = 43,151). The information available in NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES will contribute to macroecological, ecological, and conservation questions in multiple spatio-temporal perspectives. As carnivores play key roles in trophic interactions, a better understanding of their distribution and habitat requirements are essential to establish conservation management plans and safeguard the future ecological health of Neotropical ecosystems. Our data paper, combined with other large-scale data sets, has great potential to clarify species distribution and related ecological processes within the Neotropics. There are no copyright restrictions and no restriction for using data from this data paper, as long as the data paper is cited as the source of the information used. We also request that users inform us of how they intend to use the data
