Meron excitations in the nu =1 quantum Hall bilayer and the plasma analogy

We study meron quasiparticle excitations in the \nu = 1 quantum Hall bilayer. Considering the well known single meron state, we introduce its effective form, valid in the longdistance limit. That enables us to propose two (and more) meron states in the same limit. Further, establishing a plasma analogy of the (111) ground state, we find the impurities that play the role of merons and derive meron charge distributions. Using the introduced meron constructions in generalized (mixed) ground states and corresponding plasmas for arbitrary distance between the layers, we calculate the interaction between the construction implied impurities. We also find a correspondence between the impurity interactions and meron interactions. This suggests a possible explanation of the deconfinement of the merons recently observed in the experiments.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

With the development of communication technologies, it has become clear that it is necessary to create an adequate legal framework in order to protect personal data. One of its indispensable elements is the creation of an independent supervisory body for the protection of personal data. By using comparative legal method, on the example of four neighbouring countries, of which all were members of the ex-communist bloc and are the EU membership candidates, author tried to find out certain common legal solutions within these countries regarding the election of their members seeking to achieve their independence. The author also gives appropriate critical view concerning certain solutions. These countries were chosen because, in the historical and social sense, they went and are going through what Serbia is going through in the process of joining the European Union. It has to be noted that the goals guaranteed and proclaimed by legal norms do not always have to be achieved in practice. However, one must also be aware that a valid legal framework is the first step, without which the proclaimed goals cannot be achieved. This is where the social justification of the scientific study of this topic is reflected.

Investigation of respiratory chain elements in fungus Phycomyces blakesleeanus: connecton with metabolism of phosphate compounds

Ovi rezultati ukazuju na povezanost ove dve komponente energetskog metabolizma, odnosno na mogućnost da se hidrolizom PPn nadoknadi manjak ATP-a u ćelijama izazvan inhibicijom citohromskog lanca...The existence and activity of the alternative components of electron transport chain in fungus Phycomyces blakesleeanus, especially alternative oxidase (AOX), as well as respiratory chain behavior in the conditions of oxygen deprivation, was investigated in this work. Response of respiratory system to these stress conditions was compared to response of another component of energy metabolism, polyphosphates (PPn), with the intention of determining whether, and in what way, are these two metabolic systems connected. Activity of the alternative elements of respiratory chain in P. blakesleeanus was recorded by means of Clark type oxygen electrode, and the elements responsible for this activity were AOX and an enzyme or enzymatic complex induced by long-term inhibition of Complex III which was named Complex IIIPAR. Also, there is a strong possibility of external alternative NADH:dehydrogenase (NDE) existence. It was established that synthesis of AOX takes place in the cytosol, and the enzyme is then imported into the mitochondrion by energy dependent transport. In the conditions of oxygen deprivation AOX capacity is not affected, but its engagement in total respiration increases significantly due to the cytochrome c oxidase (COX) inhibition. This type of respiratory chain response in P. blakesleeanus can be attributed to a need for fast defense from reactive oxygen species (ROS) formed during reoxygenation, which leads to the increase in electron flow through the cytochrome respiratory path. 31P NMR spectroscopy revealed that the intensity ratio of core PPn to intracellular inorganic phosphate signal (PPc/Pi), which is a good indicator of overall cellular energy metabolism, decreases in these experimental conditions, but surprisingly, ATP level raises. Principal component analysis (PCA), has shown strong negative correlation between these two parameters, and also between PPc/Pi ratio and participation of alternative in total respiration. Apart from that, addition of azide, a strong COX inhibitor, did not additionally decrease PPc/Pi ratio in mycelium samples exposed to oxygen deprivation. These results indicate that there is a connection between these two components of energy metabolism, i.e., there is a possibility that the decrease in cellular ATP content caused by cytochrome chain inhibition can be compensated by PPn hydrolysis..

The Line Emission Region in III Zw 2: Kinematics and Variability

We have studied the Ly-al, Hbeta, Halpha and Mg II2798 line profiles of the Seyfert 1 galaxy III Zw 2. The shapes of these broad emission lines show evidence of a multicomponent origin and also features which may be identified as the peaks due to a rotating disk. We have proposed a two-component Broad Line Region (BLR) model consisting of an inner Keplerian relativistic disk and an outer structure surrounding the disk. The results of the fitting of the four Broad Emission Lines (BELs) here considered, are highly consistent in both the inner and outer component parameters. Adopting a mass of approx. 2 E8 sollar masses for the central object we found that the outer radius of the disk is approximately equal for the four considered lines (approx 0.01 pc). However, the inner radius of the disk is not the same: 0.0018 pc for Ly-alpha, 0.0027 pc for Mg II, and 0.0038 pc for the Balmer lines. This as well as the relatively broad component present in the blue wings of the narrow [OIII] lines indicate stratification in the emission-line region. Using long-term Hbeta observations (1972-1990, 1998) we found a flux variation of the BEL with respect to the [OIII] lines.Comment: ApJ, accepted, 22 pages, 10 figure

Leaching kinetics of Cs+ and Co2+ under dynamic conditions

The possibility of retaining Cs+ and Co2+ bound by immobilization processes in the cement matrix is defined as the subject of its investigation: the cement matrix formulation, the water/ cement ratio, the amount of waste, and the porosity of such a structure. Implementing the standard leaching method by Hespe the possibility of comparing different authors’ results was achieved. Diffusion and semi-empirical model were used to investigate the transport phenomenon in order to predict the leaching level for a long period of time. Leaching of Co2+ and Cs+ ions under dynamic conditions immobilized in the cement matrix dynamic conditions decreases with the increase of the sludge content, regarding porosity increase. The effects of the diffusion and surface washing are equalized, and the contribution ofthe matrix dissolution to the Cs + and Co2+ transport in the cement porous media increases, on average, for one order of magnitude. The semi-empirical model gives a better approximation for Co2+ and Cs+ leaching process for the duration ofthe experiment while both models significantly approximate leaching results in dynamic conditions. © 2019, Vinca Inst Nuclear Sci. Reaction of a 3-aryilidene-2-thiohydantoin derivative with polymeric trans-[CuCl2(DMSO)(2)](n) complex: unexpected isomerization to dinuclear cis-[{CuCl(DMSO)(2)}(mu-Cl)](2)

The 3-arylidene-2-thiohydantoin derivative, 3-[(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino]-2-thioxoimidazolidin-4-one, was synthesized in a two-step condensation reaction of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, thiosemicarbazide and ethyl chloroacetate. The ligand was structurally characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, as well as by elemental analysis. In the reaction of the well-known polymeric trans-[CuCl2(DMSO)(2)](n) complex with the polydentate thiohydantoin type ligand, instead of the corresponding copper thiohydantoin complex, unexpectedly, the dinuclear cis-[{CuCl(DMSO)(2)}(mu-Cl)](2) complex (1) was formed predominantly as the final stable product. The structure of the complex 1 was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The cis-complex is obtained through assisted isomerization of the trans-form, in which the thiohydantoin derivative has a crucial role

In a previous study, it was shown that the lipid fraction, which is occasionally observed in red blood cell hemolysates, represents cholesterol (Ch) associated with phospholipid firmly bound to haemoglobin (termed Hb-Ch). The current study was conducted to investigate whether Hb-Ch could affect the primary anti-oxidant enzyme defence system in human erythrocytes. Sixty healthy volunteers were used for the current study. Group 1 consisted of 28 subjects without or with a low level of Hb-Ch. Group 2 comprised 32 subjects with a considerably higher level of Hb-Ch. The activities of erythrocyte superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, as well as the content of methaemoglobin (metHb) were measured in both groups. The results indicated that the amount of Hb-Ch neither influenced the activities of the erythrocyte anti-oxidant enzymes nor altered the level of metHb. However, a higher amount of Hb-Ch changed the correlations in the part of the anti-oxidant defence system relating to glutathione, suggesting increased peroxidative pressure from plasma lipids. Group 2 also had significantly increased concentrations of total plasma Ch and triglycerides. Together, these facts are strong indications that the anti-oxidant defence system in human erythrocytes finely retunes its composition according to plasma oxidative demands.U prethodnom radu pokazano je da lipidna frakcija koja se javlja u hemolizatu zdravih ljudi predstavlja holesterol (asosovan sa fosfolipidima) čvrsto vezan za hemoglobin (Hb-Ch).

Reducing Uncertainty of Infrastructure Leakage Index - A Case Study

In water distribution systems (WDS) of developing countries, data about assets and consumption have great uncertainty. That uncertainty propagates to the performance indicators (PIs), leading to possible incorrect management decisions. To reduce the PI's uncertainty, it is necessary to analyze and reduce errors of each input variable. This paper presents methodology, based on a set of activities, to reduce the uncertainty of water balance components and Infrastructure Leakage Index. The method is tested on the WDS of Polarevac (Serbia) city. The example demonstrates how execution of activities reduced the indicator's uncertainty, although the overall indicator's value wasn't continuously improving
