Feminine and non-feminist: the mediatic construction of backlash, consumption and post-feminisms

A significativa intervenção dos feminismos na identificação e na desconstrução das práticas sociais ainda dominantes, logo, na emersão de novas perspetivas de mudança, sempre foram obscurecidos e negligenciados, se não mesmo tornados ausentes, no debate com o grande público. Dado o impacto da nova linguagem mediática em torno dos feminismos parece- nos importante o exercício de passar em revista como os constructos neoliberais dos feminismos, sobretudo apropriados pelos veículos de comunicação social, podem ser observados e interpretados como um fenómeno social que envolve, no seu modus operandi, tanto as estruturas de controlo/poder como as lógicas identitárias de uma sociedade marcadamente patriarcal. É o que se pretende fazer no presente artigo.The significant intervention of feminisms in the identification and deconstruction of the dominant social practices and, therefore, in the emergence of new perspectives of change, have always been obscured and neglected, if not absent, in the debate with the general public. Given the impact of the recent media language on feminisms, the analysis of how neoliberalism constructs feminisms, as appropriated by the media seems an important task, particularly as they can be seen and interpreted as a social phenomenon involving, in its modus operandi, both the control / power structures and the identity logics of a strongly patriarchal society. Detecção da atividade da enzima carbapenemase em Enterobacteriaceae e Pseudomonas aeruginosa isoladas em clínicas veterinárias do Distrito Federal, Brasil

Além do aumento de isolados humanos, muitas pesquisas apontam o crescente número de bactérias multirresistentes não somente em ambientes hospitalares, mas também em isolados de animais, ambientes e afluentes. Entretanto, estudos direcionados para o potencial zoonótico ainda são limitados. O objetivo do presente estudo foi identificar cepas de Enterobacteriaceae e P. aeruginosa produtores de enzimas carbapenemases circulantes em ambientes veterinários. Foram isoladas 17 amostras provenientes de clínicas veterinárias e submetidas ao teste de difusão em disco com imipenem, ertapenem e meropenem. 11 cepas sugestivas da presença de carbapenemases, com halo ≤22 mm no antibiograma, foram submetidas ao Teste de Hodge Modificado. Todas as amostras foram negativas para o teste de Hodge Modificado. Apesar de não ter sido detectada fenotipicamente a expressão da enzima carbapenemase, a resistência aos carbapenêmicos pode estar relacionada a outro mecanismo de resistência adquirido. Portanto, considerando os crescentes relatos da disseminação de carbapenemases, em especial a KPC, o mapeamento das áreas onde bactérias multirresistentes estão presentes é vital para a elaboração de medidas de controle e manutenção da salubridade da população. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe recent emergence of bacteria producing carbapenemase enzyme represents a public health issue related to the inefficiency in the treatment of nosocomial infections. In addition to the increased human isolates, current studies indicate the increasing number of multidrug-resistant bacteria not only in hospital settings, but also present in isolates from animals, common areas and affluents. However, studies on the zoonotic potential are still limited. The aim of this study was to identify strains of Enterobacteriaceae and P. aeruginosa producing carbapenemase enzymes in veterinary environments. 17 samples from veterinary clinics were isolated and examined through the disk diffusion test with imipenem, meropenem and ertapenem. 11 strains suggesting of the presence of carbapenemase with halo ≤ 22 mm on antibiograma were submitted to the modified Hodge test. All samples were negative for the modified Hodge test. Despite the expression of carbapenemase enzyme has not been phenotypically detected, the carbapenem resistance may be related to another mechanism of acquired resistance. Therefore, considering the increasing reports of the spread of carbapenemases, especially KPC, the mapping of areas where multidrug-resistant bacteria are present is vital for the development of control measures and maintenance of the population health

Effect of arginine vasopressin and ANP on intracellular pH and cytosolic free [Ca2+] regulation in MDCK cells.BackgroundThe effects of arginine vasopressin (AVP) on intracellular pH (pHi) are not clearly defined, and may vary with cell membrane surface and the hormonal doses being studied. Since cytosolic free calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) has an important effect on cellular H+ extrusion and it was shown that AVP increases [Ca2+]i while atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) reduces it, there may be some interaction between AVP and ANP during the regulation of pHi.MethodsThe effects of AVP and/or ANP on pHi and [Ca2+]i were investigated in Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells by the fluorescent probes BCECF-AM and Fluo 4-AM, respectively. The pHi recovery rate was examined in the first two minutes following the acidification of pHi with a NH4Cl pulse.ResultsAVP (10-12 or 10-9 mol/L) stimulated the rate of the Na+-dependent pHi recovery, but AVP (10-6 mol/L) impaired it. At the apical membrane surface, specific V1 or V2 receptor antagonists did not alter the effects of AVP. At the basolateral membrane surface, the V1 antagonist returned both the stimulatory and inhibitory effects of AVP to control levels, and the V2 antagonist converted the inhibitory effect of AVP to a stimulatory effect. ANP (10-6 mol/L) or dimethyl-BAPTA-AM (50 μmol/L) impaired both the stimulatory and inhibitory effects of AVP. AVP increased [Ca2+]i in a dose-dependent manner. ANP or dimethyl-BAPTA-AM decreased [Ca2+]i, and the subsequent addition of AVP caused only a partial recovery of [Ca2+]i.ConclusionsThe results are compatible with stimulation of the Na+/H+ exchanger by increases of [Ca2+]i in the lower range (at 10-12 or 10-9 mol/L AVP, via basolateral V1 receptors) and inhibition at high [Ca2+]i levels (at 10-6 mol/L AVP, via basolateral V1 and V2 receptors). ANP, by impairing the path causing the increase in [Ca2+]i, blocks both the stimulatory and inhibitory effects of AVP on Na+-dependent pHi recovery

University Collectives and the Detachment Discourse away from the Parliamentary Politics

O primeiro objetivo do trabalho é apresentar dados e o discurso dos coletivos universitários. Para tanto, foram realizadas dezesseis entrevistas qualitativas com todos os coletivos universitários da cidade de Teresina/PI, bem como análises das postagens de 170 coletivos universitários brasileiros com páginas na rede social digital Facebook. Após a análise crítica desses dados, problematizam-se a autonomia e as novidades dos coletivos, por vezes reclamadas por eles, por vezes atribuídas pela literatura. Os resultados empíricos mostram um distanciamento discursivo dos coletivos em relação à política partidária e parlamentar. Para entender tais discursos, o trabalho retoma dados do Latinobarômetro acerca da confiança no Congresso e nos partidos entre jovens estudantes brasileiros. A fim de se entender o aumento da desconfiança na política estatal, foram retomadas reflexões acerca das consequências do capitalismo neoliberal. As reflexões apresentadas permitem avançar na compreensão dos discursos de jovens universitários envolvidos em organizações políticas, sem perder de vista a relação desses posicionamentos com contextos sociais e teóricos mais amplos.The first objective of this work is to present data and the discourse of university collectives. For such, sixteen qualitative interviews were carried out with all university collectives from the city of Teresina, state of Piauí, Brazil, as well as analyses of Facebook posts of 170 Brazilian university collectives. After critical analysis of these data, autonomy and novelty issues of these collectives were discussed, sometimes claimed by them, other times assigned to them by the literature. Empirical results show a discoursive distancing of collectives as regards parliamentary and party politics. For understanding such discourses, this work recalls data from Latinobarómetro on the trust in the Congress and political parties among Brazilian young students. In order to understand the increase of distrust in state politics, reflections were made on the consequences of neoliberal capitalism. These allow us to move forward in comprehending the discourses of young university students involved in political organizations, not losing sight of these positions as regards broader social and theoretical contexts

DIVERSIFICATION WITH THE OPTION-TO-ABANDON: AN INTEGRATED VALUATION MODEL

A model that recognizes the possibility of total shareholder loss in the aftermath of bankruptcy reveals simultaneously the stock price effects of diversification and of the option to abandon assets to creditors. In essence the model integrates security pricing behavior predicted by the CAPM and by the OPM in a single formula. Results have implications for the valuation of equity and debt securities of firms in distress and of options when underlying cash flows are correlated with the market. The analysis suggests why models that consider only diversification or the option-to-abandon sometimes fail to track the behavior of actual returns
