Paper-based electrochemical biosensor for lactose monitoring
Dairy products are between one of the most consumed products across the world, however, their consumption is today nearly impossible for around 65% of the world's population, since they possess some kind of intolerance to lactose (one of the main sugars present in these products).
As a solution, lactose-free products are often consumed, with the hydrolysis of lactose by lactase, inhibiting the effects attached to lactose consumption. Since these commodities must meet a limit of 0.1% (w/w) of lactose, it has become more important than ever to develop accurate measuring systems that can correctly determine lactose percentage in milk samples.
Several methods are used to perform this kind of measurements, however they are in general very expensive and complex, so there is a space in this competitive industry to develop simple, low-cost, and sustainable measuring systems.
The reaction between lactase and lactose results in the hydrolysis of lactose, but it also results in the production of glucose and galactose. Glucose, specifically, produces an electrochemical response when reacting with glucose oxidase, producing H2O2 in the process. This molecule, when interacting with a substance like Prussian blue (PB) also produces an electrochemical signal that can be measured by a potentiostat.
With that in mind, a biosensor composed of two enzymes and PB was developed to measure lactose in milk. A pre-treated paper substrate, together with a laser induced graphene-based pattern was used, therefore meeting the sustainability goals of this work.
The sensor, with 5 mM of glucose oxidase, 100 mM of lactase and 5 mM of PB was able to correctly measure current produced by the milk samples for different concentrations of lactose, presenting a significative difference in current density (442.36 μA/cm2) between semi-skimmed milk and lactose-free semi-skimmed milk.
The constant transformation of society can be attributed to the digital technological evolution,
of which the current generation enjoys the benefits, but also suffers from the burden. This
burden is caused by different aspects, ranging from the lack of access to technological resources
such as the difficulty in handling them. When recognizing this difficulty, the thesis is defended
that, both technological inclusion and the development of skills to use them, must pass through
School Education. In this sense, the South African mathematician and computer scientist
Seymour Papert has advocated the use of digital technological resources as tools to enhance
learning since the 1960s. His work, with the computer and “objects of thinking with”,
culminated in the development of learning theory called Constructionism, and at the birth of
what is currently known as Educational Robotics (RE). When observing RE as one of the main
technological resources present in the current school, this research based on Papert's theory of
Constructionism was developed with the objective of identifying which are the proximity of
Educational Robotics practiced in the SESI school in Araguaína with Constructionism. With a
qualitative approach and adopting the Case Study as a research method, the following units of
analysis were defined: The Constructionist Learning Environment (ACA); The Teacher Learning Objects-Student interaction built at the ACA, and; The Affectivity raised in the ACA.
Based on the Constructionist theory, some theoretical patterns were identified: The formulation
of Micromonds for Mathematical Learning; Autonomous supervising professor and leading
student, and; Affective Learning; which were combined with the patterns evidenced in the data.
The evidence points to a proximity between theory and practice, when considering these
aspects, in which the construction of scientific-technological-mathematical knowledge can be
seen with the development of activities that include the construction, programming and
presentation of robots. It is concluded that the RE activities under study, have their points of
intersection with Constructionism and that in these points the learning happens in an affective
way, with the student as protagonist of the learning.
Aprendizagem Matemática; Professor orientador autônomo e Estudante protagonista, e;
As

Distribution-Based Categorization of Classifier Transfer Learning
Transfer Learning (TL) aims to transfer knowledge acquired in one problem,
the source problem, onto another problem, the target problem, dispensing with
the bottom-up construction of the target model. Due to its relevance, TL has
gained significant interest in the Machine Learning community since it paves
the way to devise intelligent learning models that can easily be tailored to
many different applications. As it is natural in a fast evolving area, a wide
variety of TL methods, settings and nomenclature have been proposed so far.
However, a wide range of works have been reporting different names for the same
concepts. This concept and terminology mixture contribute however to obscure
the TL field, hindering its proper consideration. In this paper we present a
review of the literature on the majority of classification TL methods, and also
a distribution-based categorization of TL with a common nomenclature suitable
to classification problems. Under this perspective three main TL categories are
presented, discussed and illustrated with examples
Problematization of the Literary Canon: Anti-Patriarchal Perspective and Discussion on the Erasure of Literature by Female Authors in the School Curriculum
The literary canon is a collection of works officially recognized for their excellence and cultural importance Its construction is a historical process that reflects the choices and values of commonly dominant groups As a result the canon often excludes works written by marginalized groups including women This erasure of female writers has influenced the development of the school curriculum and limited young people s exposure to these authors and their works In Brazil the literary canon is dominated by male writers with little representation of literary works authored by women This lack of representation directly affects education in the country limiting exposure to literature written by women This work addresses the influence of the patriarchal literary canon on the approach to literature written by women in schoo
futuro.Mobility needs have grown exponentially and their standards significantly changed, especially in urban
cores, as a result of economic, technological and social development. One of the main consequences of
this progress was the improvement of road infrastructures and the significant motorization rate increase,
which, together with a spatial planning model that promotes the activities and services decentralization
and the progressive urban dispersion, promoting traveled increased distances, the private vehicle use
and the difficulty in public transport services sustainability for commuting.
Smart cities, or future cities, are inevitably associated with technological development as support for
achieve efficiency in the scarce resources management, production of economic development and life
quality sustainable.
In densely occupied áreas with fully outlined transport system infrastructure, space management
replaces the capacity increase, in economic impacts inevitability, noise and air pollution and inherent to
traffic congestion.
Strategic transport planning demand a dominated project by treatment landscape, active modes and
public transport, where the private vehicle constitutes a secondary alternative in mobility options, the
individual acts as an essential matrix in the space relationship optimization and the shared data as system
construction foundation that allows appropriate answer to institutions, companies and population needs.
Permanent monitoring using sensors that detect wrap environment characteristic, with periodically or
real time communication and allow stored data subsequent treatment for relevant and directed
information availability to individual or collective decision making, asserts itself as peremptory in the
transport system restructuring, in the behaviors study and social, economic and environmental
developments in future cities
Iliac vein injury after anterior transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion cage migration
Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) is an effective treatment for many spine conditions. Anterior cage migration is one of the known complications and major vessels injury after that is a rare but potentially disastrous complication. We present a case of a 65-year-old female patient who underwent a TLIF for the treatment of an instable low grade spondylolisthesis. During the procedure, anterior dislodgment of the cage was verified and it was not possible to retrieve it by this approach. Has no bleeding or change in hemodynamical status was verified, it was decided not to proceed to removal at that moment. A CT-scan was performed and showed the position of the cage migrated through the posterior wall of the confluence of the left internal and external iliac veins. A new surgery was performed by an anterior approach to remove the cage and repair the vessel injury, by a vascular surgeon. In this case, cage migration occurred mostly because of implant malfunction. Surgeons must be aware that anterior cage migration can cause vascular injuries, and removal of this implants is effective by an anterior approach but a vascular surgeon must be part of the team
