The optimization of the logistics chain at Jerónimo Martins: The centralization decision

    Get PDF
This work project results from a challenge proposed by Jerónimo Martins, the largest food distribution group in Portugal, which consists in developing a simulator to support the centralization decision in Recheio, a cash & carry chain. A quantitative analysis was performed to understand the dispersion of purchasing volume by region and centralization degree. The simulator designed intends to acknowledge the impact of a specific decision on three dimensions: economic, environmental and social. The economic costs, CO2 emissions and stock-out probabilities, are presented for both centralized and decentralized scenarios. In the end, this project aims to optimize the company’s logistics chain

Preparation and characterization of stainless steel 316L/HA biocomposite

    Get PDF
The austenitic stainless steel 316L is the most used metallic biomaterials in orthopedics applications, especially in the manufacture of articulated prostheses and as structural elements in fracture fixation, since it has high mechanical strength. However, because it is biologically inactive, it does not form chemical bond with bone tissue, it is fixed only by morphology. The development of biocomposites of stainless steel with a bioactive material, such as hydroxyapatite - HA, is presented as an alternative to improve the response in the tissue-implant interface. However significant reductions in mechanical properties of the biocomposite can occur. Different compositions of the biocomposite stainless steel 316L/HA (5, 20 and 50 wt. (%) HA) were prepared by mechanical alloying. After milling the powders for 10 hours, the different compositions of the biocomposite were compacted isostatically and sintered at 1200 ºC for 2 hours. The mechanical properties of the biocomposites were analyzed by compression tests. The powders and the sintered composites were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Universidade Federal de Itajubá IEMUniversidade Federal de Itajubá Instituto de Ciências ExatasUniversidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) Instituto de Ciência e TecnologiaUNIFESP, Instituto de Ciência e TecnologiaSciEL

Prediction models applied to lung cancer using data mining

    Get PDF
Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in men and the second leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide. Even though early detection of cancer can aid in the complete cure of the disease, the demand for techniques to detect the occurrence of cancer nodules at an early stage is increasing. Its cure rate and prediction are primarily dependent on early disease detection and diagnosis. Knowledge discovery and data mining have numerous applications in the business and scientific domains that provide useful information in healthcare systems. Therefore, the present work aimed to compare several prediction models as well as the features to be used, with the help of Weka and RapidMiner tools. Both classification and association rules techniques were implemented. The results obtained were quite satisfactory, with emphasis on the Naive Bayes model, which obtained an accuracy of 95.03% for cross-validation 10 folds and 94.59% for percentage split 66%.This work has been supported by FCT—Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/00319/2020

Adaptação transcultural do instrumento Family Needs Questionnaire

    Get PDF
This is a quantitative methodological development study on the cross-cultural adaptation of the "Family Needs Questionnaire" (FNQ), which is a structured instrument developed in the United States to measure the perceived needs of family members after the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) of a relative. This instrument aims to identify important needs presented by family members, whether met or not. The FNQ translation and adaptation followed a particular method, which permitted to achieve semantic, idiomatic, cultural and conceptual equivalence of the instrument version labeled in Portuguese as "Questionário de Necessidades da Família". The results of the questionnaire application to 161 family members showed that the instrument content is valid to measure the needs of families of patients with TBI in the Brazilian context. Influence of temperature and photoperiod on the maturation of the seminal vesicle and albumen gland in Oxychilus (Drouetia) atlanticus (Gastropoda: Pulmonata)

The land snail Oxychilus (Drouetia) atlanticus is endemic to São Miguel (Azores). In this species, the reproductive system, especiailly the glandular organs, changes in size and shape during the reproductive cycle. As maturation-diagnostic organs, the seminal vesicle and the albumen gland have complementary interpretations. While the former is appropriate to establish the phase of the pre-copulatory and copulatory periods the latter appears a more accurate way to define pre-egg-laying and egg-laying periods. Concerning the effects of photoperiod and temperature on both organs, it seems that while the former triggers the physiological phenomena related to reproduction, inducing the seminal vesicle and the albumen gland to mature, the latter acts mainly as a regulatory factor for these organs, delimiting the distinct phases of reproduction
