This thesis deals with the diagnosis of behavior functions in the embedded network systems and especially in the automotive systems. It is focused on the localization of intermittent faults in discrete events systems. The proposed methods are based on a discrete events model representing the normal functioning of the observable behavior of the monitored system. The detection step consists of a comparison between the flow of observable events emitted by the monitored system and the flow foreseen by the model. A localization mechanism, based on the diagnoser approach (Sampath et al., 1998), points out the set of events potentially responsible for the faults. The aim of this approach is to get the diagnosis information into a data structure (off-line) which efficiently joins the observations with the faults during the on-line diagnosis. This thesis have lead to the building of many applications for the intermittent fault diagnosis. This works have been validated on a test bench representing the network used in the city transports (bus, subways...)

As the book’s back cover blurb notes, few ethnographic works in Western languages deal with Formosan indigeneity. This book is the only one in French devoted exclusively to the issue. Scott Simon draws on a rich, finely analysed ethnography of the Sadyaq Austronesian societies, especially in the last five of the book’s eight chapters. He adds to and carries on from previous contributions – articles and book chapters on the subject by Fiorella Allio, Véronique Arnaud, Josiane Cauquelin, and Ch..

Contested Representations of Taiwanese Baseball: Political Interpretations and Moral Values of a National Sport

    Get PDF
In Taiwan, baseball is a national passion that the whole society can relate to. Appeared under Japanese rule, it was enrolled in the nationalist “physical culture” (tiyu 體育) just after WWII and became, at the turn of the 1970s, the “national sport” (guoqiu 國球) and the flagship of a state isolated on the international scene. It thus provides Taiwanese society with many symbols and references which the political elite cannot afford to ignore. Deeply involved with the education of moral values, its representations are used and claimed by the main existing political and ideological forces.

Chapter 11: Instructional Message Design in E-Learning

    Get PDF
Instructional message design is an essential aspect of an effective e-learning experience for learners. E-learning is the use of online and mobile technologies to develop learning material, content, and applications for online learners. As an instructional designer, it is important to analyze and know your audience, engage the user, use relevant information, and provide a good user experience. Other critical aspects of message design for e-learning include the reduction of extraneous cognitive load, the aesthetic look and feel of the design, designing for learner motivation, and a focused simplicity of design. User engagement can also be encouraged by relevant content and context, and the instructor’s or facilitator’s active participation in discussion, chat, projects, and group activities

The contribution of Geomatics to increase safety and security in ports

AbstractIn this paper, the advantages achievable from the use of two prototype systems that are being developed to increase safety and security in ports are shown. Both systems start by monitoring environmental parameters in harbors, and then process data acquired. The first system has been conceived to be helpful to port communities (port authorities, pilots) to optimize harbor waterside management (ship's navigation and cargo, dock performances, boat moorings, refloating of stranded ships, water quality control). By monitoring and processing sea level and atmospheric pressure in port areas, it can help port communities, e.g., to choose the best time when a ship with a certain draft can enter or leave a harbor, or to plan the best route inside the basin for that vessel (port safety). The second system, instead, has been designed for port protection purposes: by monitoring and processing the Earth's magnetic field below the sea surface in harbors (where the natural field is disturbed by a high artificial component), it is able to detect the possible presence of intruders (e.g., divers) swimming underwater in prohibited areas (port security). Here, the results of monitoring and processing activities of the two systems performed in Livorno and La Spezia harbors are shown (Italy). The processing procedures and the graphical interfaces of the systems are based on applications under development by the research team the author belongs to, by using C# and C++ languages; Matlab environment has been employed for simulations

Innovative applications of strong crystalline field effects to particle accelerators and detectors

It is well known that the electromagnetic interactions between high-energy particles and solid matter undergo substantial modifications when the latter is crystalline and its lattice axes are almost parallel to the incident beam direction. In particular, a strong enhancement to both bremsstrahlung (by electrons and positrons) and pair production (by photons) occurs in high-Z, high-density oriented crystals, owing to the coherent interactions of multi-GeV particles with the crystalline lattice axes. The interest in the experimental investigation of this enhancement has grown stronger in recent years. The focus is twofold: to fully characterise these coherent effects in order to widen the knowledge of the interactions between particles and matter, and to exploit them in the development of next-generation tools for high-energy physics. The work presented in this thesis delves into several experimental studies regarding the interactions of high-energy electrons and photons with the strong lattice field of oriented tungsten (W) and lead tungstate (PWO) crystals, which serve as the cornerstone of the design of three applications of paramount interest: an optimised positron source for the future lepton collider (e.g., the FCC-ee), a high-efficiency photon converter for the neutral kaon beamline of the HIKE experiment at the CERN SPS and an ultra-compact, high-performance homogeneous electromagnetic calorimeter for forward-geometry accelerator-based experiments and space-borne gamma-ray telescopes.È ben noto che le interazioni elettromagnetiche tra le particelle ad alta energia e la materia allo stato solido subiscono modifiche sostanziali quando quest'ultima è cristallina ed i suoi assi reticolari sono pressoché paralleli alla direzione del fascio incidente.

Finding available services in TOSCA-compliant clouds

    Get PDF
The OASIS TOSCA specification aims at enhancing the por-ta-bility of cloud applications by defining a language to describe and manage them across heterogeneous clouds. A service template is defined as an orchestration of typed nodes, which can be instantiated by matching other service templates. In this paper, we define and implement the notions of {em exact} and {it plug-in matching} between TOSCA service templates and node types. We then define two other types of matching ({em flexible} and {em white-box}), each permitting to ignore larger sets of non-relevant syntactic differences when type-checking service templates with respect to node types. The paper also describes how a service template that plug-in, flexibly or white-box matches a node type can be suitably adapted so as to exactly match it
