    Food choice determinants and perceptions of a healthy diet among Italian consumers

    Healthy food choices are crucial for a healthy lifestyle. However, food choices are complex and affected by various factors. Understanding the determinant factors affecting food choices could aid policy-makers in designing better strategies to promote healthy food choices in the general public. This study aims to evaluate the food choice motivations and to segment consumer groups, according to their food choice motivations, in a sample of 531 Italian consumers (collected by convenience sampling), through offline and online survey platforms. K-means cluster analysis was applied to identify consumer groups using six food choice motivation categories (health, emotional, economic and availability, social and cultural, environmental and political, and marketing and commercial). The results suggest that the strongest determinants for the food choices of Italian consumers are Environmental factors and Health. Two consumer profiles were identified through the segmentation analysis: Emotional eating and Health-driven consumers. The respondents were found to have a good awareness of what comprises a healthy diet. There is a potential market for healthy and sustainable food products, especially products with minimal or environmentally friendly packages. Food labels and information strategies could be promoted as tools to assist consumers to make healthy food choices

    Generación de biogas a partir de la degradación de residuos orgánicos de frigoríficos

    Se presentan los primeros resultados obtenidos del estudio de los parámetros característicos de la degradación de residuos orgánicos colectados en un frigorífico de peces ubicado en Bella Vista – Corrientes- Argentina. Se armaron 8 reactores a escala de laboratorio y un digestor de 200 l instalado a campo abierto. Las temperaturas de trabajo en ambas situaciones fueron entre 25 y 35 °C, tiempo de retención hidráulico 30 días, y el contenido de estiércol en la suspensión: 10%, 25%, 50% y 100% en el laboratorio y 50% en el digestor de campo. Los reactores de laboratorio se hicieron funcionar de manera discontinua. Se midieron la cantidad de biogás generado y acumulado. La concentración de metano en el biogás generado a campo abierto varió entre 45% y 60%. Se concluyó que el tratamiento anaerobio del efluente colectado en el frigorífico es una opción de depuración biológica y técnica de generación de energía útil.The characteristic parameters of the degradation of organic waste collected in a fish slaughterhouse located in Bella Vista – Corrientes- Argentina were study using 8 laboratory scale reactors and 200 l digester. Laboratory reactors were operated batchwise. Biogas generated and accumulated were measured. Methane concentration varied between 45% and 60%. Se analizaron diferentes productos realizándose ensayos de secado en laboratorio y campo. El estudio comprende el proceso de secado, propiedades organolépticas y determinación del peso seco de los productos secos. A las curvas de secado, para productos de hoja, obtenidas en laboratorio se aplicó un modelo exponencial de pérdida de peso determinándose los parámetros característicos mediante ajuste de datos a la ecuación teórica del modelo. El modelo ajustado se comparó con resultados de campo. La correlación obtenida indica que su uso permitiría establecer estrategias de operación y producción para productos de hoja. Se determinó en 18% la eficiencia del secadero para el caso de secado de ortiga.Results of activities aimed at the optimisation of a cabinet type solar dryer are presented. Several products were analysed. In all cases drying curves were obtained in the laboratory and with the solar dryer as well as. The study comprises the drying process, physical properties and determination of the dry weight of the dried products. To the drying curves obtained in laboratory for leaf products an exponential model of loss of weight was applied. The characteristic parameters were determined by three-variable parameters curve fitting of experimental data using the theoretical equation as fitting function. The adjusted solution was compared with field results. The correlation obtained indicates, in principle, that it could be used to establish operation and production strategies for leaf products.     Análisis del comportamiento térmico de un prototipo de vivienda familiar con diferentes materiales mediante “TRNSYS” en la provincia de Corrientes

    Apelando a publicaciones desarrolladas sobre el monitoreo experimental y simulación dinámica con los programas informáticos TRNSYS y SIMUSOL, a través de los cuales se evaluó el comportamiento térmico de un prototipo unifamiliar de madera construido por el In.Vi.Co (Instituto de Viviendas de Corrientes). En este trabajo se desarrolla la aplicación y evaluación preliminar a través del programa informático TRNSYS en el mismo prototipo de vivienda con diferentes materiales “suelo cemento y placas de ladrillo”, utilizando para ello una sub rutina llamada Prep, el que permite crear nuevos materiales. Los resultados obtenidos permiten demostrar la eficiencia del programa informático TRNSYS para evaluar el comportamiento térmico de diferentes materiales en un mismo prototipo vivienda en la etapa de diseño, y confrontar valores de confort.Appelling to publications developed to the experimental monitoring and dynamic simulation with TRNSYS software and SIMUSOL, through which we evaluated the thermal performance of a detached wooden prototype built by In.Vi.Co (Institute of Housing Corrientes). In this paper we develop the application and preliminary evaluation through the TRNSYS software prototype in the same house with different materials "soil cement, brick plates", using a sub routine called Prep, which allowed to create new materials because we did not have them in the library of program materials.     Reliance upon ancestral mutations is maintained in colorectal cancers that heterogeneously evolve during targeted therapies

    Attempts at eradicating metastatic cancers with targeted therapies are limited by the emergence of resistant subclones bearing heterogeneous (epi)genetic changes. We used colorectal cancer (CRC) to test the hypothesis that interfering with an ancestral oncogenic event shared by all the malignant cells (such as WNT pathway alterations) could override heterogeneous mechanisms of acquired drug resistance. Here, we report that in CRC-resistant cell populations, phylogenetic analysis uncovers a complex subclonal architecture, indicating parallel evolution of multiple independent cellular lineages. Functional and pharmacological modulation of WNT signalling induces cell death in CRC preclinical models from patients that relapsed during the treatment, regardless of the drug type or resistance mechanisms. Concomitant blockade of WNT and MAPK signalling restrains the emergence of drug-resistant clones. Reliance upon the WNT-APC pathway is preserved throughout the branched genomic drift associated with emergence of treatment relapse, thus offering the possibility of a common therapeutic strategy to overcome secondary drug resistance

    Edible insects as foods: mapping scientific publications and product launches in the global market (1996-2021)

    Edible insects are gaining interest for their health and environmental merits as human food. Within this framework, the main objectives of this research are to fill the gap between market trends and scientific research about the status of edible insects in foods, suggest a roadmap for future research and boost product launches. For these reasons, an attempt has been made to review the progress of scientific documents related to edible insect foods and to detect the prominent trends in insect-based foods during the period 1996-2021. By putting the findings of these searches together, we were able to observe that scientific publications have increased exponentially since 2015 – similar to product launches but at a higher speed. Europe was found to be the most prolific region in terms of publications and food product numbers due to increased awareness of the benefits of insects. Market data offered insights into the main selling countries, food applications and insect ingredients. In the future, food formulators will still have to find innovative solutions to offer insect-based foods with pleasant flavours and textures and, in turn, contribute to healthy and sustainable gastronomy. Ensuring safety and setting a clear legislative framework will further organise the sector and thus boost edible insects as a future food commodity
