Implementation of a 2-D 8x8 IDCT on the Reconfigurable Montium Core

    Get PDF
This paper describes the mapping of a two-dimensional inverse discrete cosine transform (2-D IDCT) onto a wordlevel reconfigurable Montium Processor. This shows that the IDCT is mapped onto the Montium tile processor (TP) with reasonable effort and presents performance numbers in terms of energy consumption, speed and silicon costs. The Montium results are compared with the IDCT implementation on three other architectures: TI DSP, ASIC and ARM

A Reconfigurable Platform For Cognitive Radio

    Get PDF
Today¿s rigid spectrum allocation scheme creates a spectrum scarcity problem for future wireless communications. Measurements show that a wide range of the allocated frequency bands are rarely used. Cognitive radio is a novel approach to improve the spectrum usage, which is able to sense the spectrum and adapt its transmission while coexisting with the licensed spectrum user. A reconfigurable radio platform is required to provide enough adaptivity for cognitive radio. In this paper, we propose a cognitive radio system architecture and discuss its possible implementation on a heterogeneous reconfigurable radio platform

Complexity analysis for mapping a DRM receiver on a heterogeneous tiled architecture

    Get PDF
In this article we present the results of partitioning the OFDM baseband processing of a DRM receiver into smaller independent processes. Furthermore, we give a short introduction into the relevant parts of the DRM standard. Based on the number of multiplications and additions we can map individual processes on a heterogeneous multitile architecture. This architecture can meet both the computational demands as well as the restricted energy budget

Parameter Selection At Run-Time To Optimize Energy Efficiency

    Get PDF
Energy efficiency is vital for a mobile terminal. In this paper we investigate how to choose the right parameter settings at run-time so that the energy consumption is minimized while satisfying the required level of service. To use a real world example, the energy consumption of a third generation telephone WCDMA downlink receiver with turbo decoding forward error correction is considered. A trade-off is made between the number of fingers of a rake receiver and the number of iterations of the turbo decoder. A simulation environment is constructed to simulate the system. In this paper we present graphs, with which the trade-off can be easily made

Run-time mapping of applications to a heterogeneous reconfigurable tiled system on chip architecture

    Get PDF
This work evaluates an algorithm that maps a number of communicating processes to a heterogeneous tiled system on chip (SoC) architecture at run-time. The mapping algorithm minimizes the total amount of energy consumption, while still providing an adequate quality of service (QoS). A realistic example is mapped using this algorithm

The provenance of Borneo's enigmatic alluvial diamonds:A case study from Cempaka, SE Kalimantan

    Get PDF
Gem-quality diamonds have been found in several alluvial deposits across central and southern Borneo. Borneo has been a known source of diamonds for centuries, but the location of their primary igneous source remains enigmatic. Many geological models have been proposed to explain their distribution, including: the diamonds were derived from a local diatreme; they were brought to the surface through ophiolite obduction or exhumation of UHP metamorphic rocks; they were transported long distances southward via major Asian river systems; or, they were transported from the Australian continent before Borneo was rifted from its northwestern margin in the Late Jurassic. To assess these models, we conducted a study of the provenance of heavy minerals from Kalimantan's Cempaka alluvial diamond deposit. This involved collecting U–Pb isotopic data, fission track and trace element geochemistry of zircon as well as major element geochemical data of spinels and morphological descriptions of zircon and diamond. The results indicate that the Cempaka diamonds were likely derived from at least two sources, one which was relatively local and/or involved little reworking, and the other more distal which records several periods of reworking. The distal diamond source is interpreted to be diamond-bearing pipes that intruded the basement of a block that: (1) rifted from northwest Australia (East Java or SW Borneo) and the diamonds were recycled into its sedimentary cover, or: (2) were emplaced elsewhere (e.g. NW Australia) and transported to a block (e.g. East Java or SW Borneo). Both of these scenarios require the diamonds to be transported with the block when it rifted from NW Australia in the Late Jurassic. The local source could be diamondiferous diatremes associated with eroded Miocene high-K alkaline intrusions north of the Barito Basin, which would indicate that the lithosphere beneath SW Borneo is thick (~ 150 km or greater). The ‘local’ diamonds could also be associated with ophiolitic rocks that are exposed in the nearby Meratus Mountains

ARIA 2016: Care pathways implementing emerging technologies for predictive medicine in rhinitis and asthma across the life cycle

    Get PDF
The Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) initiative commenced during a World Health Organization workshop in 1999. The initial goals were (1) to propose a new allergic rhinitis classification, (2) to promote the concept of multi-morbidity in asthma a
