Unaccompanied Migrant Youth and Mental Health Technologies: A social-Ecological Approach to Understanding and Designing

    Get PDF
Research increasingly shows that technology can improve access to mental health interventions. However, unaccompanied migrant youth (UMY) still struggle in accessing appropriate mental health resources in spite of their high need for mental health support. Through co-design workshops, and using the lens of the socialecological model of resilience, we explored the social-ecological factors that support or hinder UMY’s use of mental health apps as resources. We identified the strong influence of the macro-system (i.e. resettlement policies) on the bio-and micro-systems, which in turn limits participants’ abilities to use the apps. Our findings highlight the factors specific to each social-ecological system—including personal experiences, technological infrastructure and social environment—that need to be accounted for when designing technological mental health resources for UMY. This contributes: a rich description of the interplay of mental health apps with socialecological systems in which UMY are embedded; and the corresponding design considerations

ManneqKit Cards:A Kinesthetic Empathic Design Tool Communicating Depression Experiences

    Get PDF
While depression is a mood disorder with significant societal impact, the experiences of people living with depression are yet not easy to access. HCI’s tenet to understand users, particularly addressed by the empathic design approach, has prioritized verbal communication of such experiences. We introduce ManneqKit, a kinesthetic empathic design tool consisting of 15 cards with bodily postures and vignettes leveraging the nonverbal aspects of depression experiences. We report ManneqKit’s co-design with 10 therapists, its piloting with 4 therapists and 10 non-therapists, and evaluation through design workshops with 9 interaction designers. Findings indicate cards’ ability to elicit non-therapists’ increased empathy, and richer emotional depictions when compared to text-based description of depression symptoms. We discuss the value of these findings for interaction design in supporting richer understanding of vulnerable users experiencing depression, for more sensitive conceptual designs in the ideation stage, and more nuanced ethical values underpinning the overall design process

The aim of thesis was The use of ornamental value of vegetable species. The literary section describes the history and current developments of use of vegetables, next are described compositional properties and characteristics of selected vegetable species. For the assessment of vegetables in the practical part was chosen Flower Garden in Kroměříž as a model object. There were realized two ornamental vegetable beds on which were the due to methodology of ornamental value evaluated each of vegetable species and cultivars of vegetables. All of data were processed in program Statistica 12 and were made conclusions for practice. The result is an inventory table of compositional properties of vegetables and chart of the overall evaluation of selected types of vegetables, including an economic evaluation of the cost of foundation of 1 m2 of plantings

Protection against discrimination in employment relations

1 Protection against discrimination in employment relations Abstract The thesis discusses legal instruments of protection against discrimination in labor relations which are applied in accordance with the current legislation of the Czech Republic. Using the perspective of the discriminated employee, the thesis distinguishes between preventive and reparatory instruments. However, the thesis indicates that the boundary between these two basic categories is often blurred. In the introductory chapters, the thesis attempts to identify and define the features of discriminatory behavior, which, according to the theory of law, lies within the domain of private and public law. The thesis points to the intertwining of public and private law as a typical feature of labor law. The related second chapter reviews the parallel existence of the public interest in protection against discrimination in employment relationships and the private interest - or individual claims - of discriminated employees. However, exercising the public interest on the one hand, and exercising personal, legitimate interests of employees on the other cannot be understood as antagonism. The third chapter lists the instruments of protection against discrimination, divided into preventive and reparatory instruments, and mentions the subjects and..

Effect of Videoconferencing Environments on Perception of Communication

    No full text
Videoconferencing systems are an increasingly popular way of co-working independently on physical distance. Unfortunately, none of the systems created so far has reached the common goal of supplying the participants with an environment that allows natural interaction. This paper gives an overview of this field with a special interest taken in cognitive part of the communication – that is mainly the impact of different videoconferencing system settings on user's perception as well as the overall efficiency of the communication

This bachelors work deals with evaluation of flower planting in structures with cultural and historical value. In theoretical part of this work is described issue of floral beds, their history, shape solution, sortiment of floral use for this type of flowerbed and their establishment and revitalization. In practical part of this bachelors work was chosen model object of Luhačovice. Here were evaluated 23flowerbeds in one vegetation season. All data were recorded in flower planting charts, created by using developed methodology and then evaluated. Result of this bachelors work is evaluation of relevance of literary sources with real condition of flower plantings in Luhačovice. Part of this work is proposal of flower planting situated to selected section in spa town

Pitch pyrolysis kinetics from single TG curve

    No full text
Global pitch pyrolysis kinetic parameters determined by different methods from single thermogravimetric curves are compared. Differential (Freeman–Carroll, Vachuška–Vobořil), integral (Coats–Redfern, Horowitz–Metzger) and the method of direct non-linear regression (NLR) were used. Direct non-linear regression is the most suitable when the whole kinetic triplet (activation energy, frequency factor and reaction order) is searched, but the results are not quite satisfactory. If the global first order kinetic of pitch pyrolysis is accepted, similar values of activation energy and frequency factor were obtained by different methods. Considering the quality of results and applicability Coats and Redfern method is recommended in this case
