Possible Deviation from the Tri-bimaximal Neutrino Mixing in a Seesaw Model
We propose a simple but suggestive seesaw model with two phenomenological
conjectures: three heavy (right-handed) Majorana neutrinos are degenerate in
mass in the symmetry limit and three light Majorana neutrinos have the
tri-bimaximal mixing pattern . We show that a small mass splitting
between the first generation and the other two generations of heavy Majorana
neutrinos is responsible for the deviation of the solar neutrino mixing angle
from its initial value given by , and the
slight breaking of the mass degeneracy between the second and third generations
of heavy Majorana neutrinos results in a small mixing angle
and a tiny departure of the atmospheric neutrino mixing angle
from . It turns out that a normal hierarchy of the light neutrino

The epigenetic regulator ATF7ip inhibits Il2 expression, regulating Th17 responses.
T helper 17 cells (Th17) are critical for fighting infections at mucosal surfaces; however, they have also been found to contribute to the pathogenesis of multiple autoimmune diseases and have been targeted therapeutically. Due to the role of Th17 cells in autoimmune pathogenesis, it is important to understand the factors that control Th17 development. Here we identify the activating transcription factor 7 interacting protein (ATF7ip) as a critical regulator of Th17 differentiation. Mice with T cell-specific deletion of Atf7ip have impaired Th17 differentiation secondary to the aberrant overproduction of IL-2 with T cell receptor (TCR) stimulation and are resistant to colitis in vivo. ChIP-seq studies identified ATF7ip as an inhibitor of Il2 gene expression through the deposition of the repressive histone mark H3K9me3 in the Il2-Il21 intergenic region. These results demonstrate a new epigenetic pathway by which IL-2 production is constrained, and this may open up new avenues for modulating its production
An extension of Wiener integration with the use of operator theory
With the use of tensor product of Hilbert space, and a diagonalization
procedure from operator theory, we derive an approximation formula for a
general class of stochastic integrals. Further we establish a generalized
Fourier expansion for these stochastic integrals. In our extension, we
circumvent some of the limitations of the more widely used stochastic integral
due to Wiener and Ito, i.e., stochastic integration with respect to Brownian
motion. Finally we discuss the connection between the two approaches, as well
as a priori estimates and applications.Comment: 13 page
Exploring the multi-humped fission barrier of 238U via sub-barrier photofission
The photofission cross-section of 238U was measured at sub-barrier energies
as a function of the gamma-ray energy using, for the first time, a
monochromatic, high-brilliance, Compton-backscattered gamma-ray beam. The
experiment was performed at the High Intensity gamma-ray Source (HIgS) facility
at beam energies between E=4.7 MeV and 6.0 MeV and with ~3% energy resolution.
Indications of transmission resonances have been observed at gamma-ray beam
energies of E=5.1 MeV and 5.6 MeV with moderate amplitudes. The triple-humped
fission barrier parameters of 238U have been determined by fitting EMPIRE-3.1
nuclear reaction code calculations to the experimental photofission cross

Fluctuations around the Tachyon Vacuum in Open String Field Theory
We consider quadratic fluctuations around the tachyon vacuum numerically in
open string field theory. We work on a space spanned
by basis string states used in the Schnabl's vacuum solution. We show that the
truncated form of the Schnabl's vacuum solution on is
well-behaved in numerical work. The orthogonal basis for the new BRST operator
on and the quadratic forms of potentials
for independent fields around the vacuum are obtained. Our numerical results
support that the Schnabl's vacuum solution represents the minimum energy

Mixed RG Flows and Hydrodynamics at Finite Holographic Screen
We consider quark-gluon plasma with chemical potential and study
renormalization group flows of transport coefficients in the framework of
gauge/gravity duality. We first study them using the flow equations and compare
the results with hydrodynamic results by calculating the Green functions on the
arbitrary slice. Two results match exactly. Transport coefficients at arbitrary
scale is ontained by calculating hydrodynamics Green functions. When either
momentum or charge vanishes, transport coefficients decouple from each other.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figure
Microstructural Behaviors of Matrices Based on Polylactic Acid and Polyhydroxyalkanoates
Individual films of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) and polylactic acid (PLA) and their blends were developed by solvent casting. PHA was obtained from activated sludges from a wastewater-treatment system at a laboratory scale. This work focused on analyzing the microstructural properties and thermal behaviors of individual films of PHA and PLA as well as those of their blends. The behaviors of the biodegradation processes of the individual films and blends were examined from a microstructural point of view. ATR-FTIR spectra indicated the existence of weak molecular interactions between the polymers. The formulation of blend films improved the crystallinity of PLA; additionally, it induced the polymer-recrystallization phenomenon, because crystallized PHA acted as a PLA-nucleating agent. This phenomenon explains the improvements in the films´ water-vapor-barrier properties. The blends exposed to a biodegradation process showed an intermediate behavior between PLA and PHA, leading to a consistent basis for designing systems tailored to a particular purpose.Fil: Alzate Marin, Juan Carlos. Mechanical properties and in vitro degradation behavior of additively manufactured phosphate glass particles/fibers reinforced polylactide
Phosphate glass/polylactide (PG/PLA) composites were additively manufactured via fused deposition modeling. The incorporation of 10 wt % PG particles improved the flexural modulus of composites by ~14% (3.53 GPa) but led to 5% reduction in flexural strength (92.4 MPa). The trend was more pronounced as the particle loading doubled. Comparing to a particulate composite of the same weight fraction, milled PG fibers (PGFs) reinforcement led to more effectively improved flexural modulus (~30%, 4.10 GPa). After 28 days of in vitro degradation in phosphate buffered saline, the particulate composites lost more than 30% of their initial mechanical properties, in contrast to less than 10% reduction of strength/modulus reported from fiber reinforced composites. The additively manufactured PG/PLA matrix composites have potential for application as customized bone fixation plates to repair the fractures under modest load‐bearing applications. © 2019 The Authors.
