EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION OF A CAPPILARY TUBE SIMULATION MODEL WITH REFRIGERANT MIXTURES FLOW

    Get PDF
This paper presents the experimental validation of a simulation model for refrigerant mixtures flow through capillary tubes. To perform such validation it was built an experimental apparatus using a blow-down process. It was carried out preliminary tests for characterization of experimental parameters: actual capillary tube diameters; relative roughness; and the heat losses in subcooling/quality control system. It was obtained almost 200 experimental points for R-407C (a zeotropic mixture) and R-410A (a near azeotropic mixture). Complete data set for each point consists of the measured pressure and temperature profiles, mass flow rate and mixture composition, as well as subcooling/quality control system inlet and outlet temperatures and heater electric power consumption for tests with two-phase flow capillary tube inlet conditions. Comparison of simulation and experimental data show a good agreement. Main deviations are connected with the delay of vaporization phenomenon occurrence, experimentally verified by the authors

Among the arts of rhetoric composed in England in the second half of the 16th century, Abraham Fraunce’s The Arcadian Rhetorike (1588) presents a remarkable structural distinction. If, on the one hand, the rhetorical treatises of the period usually gave the ancient 5-part division of rhetoric, on the other hand Fraunce’s work gave a 2-part division of rhetoric: Elocution and Pronunciation. Closely following the model proposed by Petrus Ramus, Fraunce introduces in England the attribution of inventio and dispositio to Dialectics only, and elocutio and actio to Rhetoric only. Giving examples, of tropes, figures, voice and gesture extracted from poems in Greek, Latin, English, Italian, French, and Spanish – from Homer, Virgil, Sidney, Spenser, Petrarch, Tasso, Du. Bartas, Boscán and Garcilaso –, Fraunce shows the rhetorical mechanisms of poetry.  In this paper, I intend to argue that the choice of the Ramist method allows Fraunce to construct an “Arcadian” rhetoric, focusing on what he calls a “poeticall dimension”. In order to do this, I propose to (1) present the main characteristics of Fraunce’s art of  rhetoric, analyzing the historical circumstances of its composition; (2) examine the relationship that it maintains with other rhetorical and poetical treatises; and (3) discuss  the importance it had to the writing of poetry in the later half of 16th century England.

Distance Interventions for Children with Sleep Problems: A Review

    Get PDF
Sleep problems in childhood are frequent and may cause damage to the children and their families; however, parental orientation appears to be effective in its many new formats, such as the distance treatment. This study aimed to review the literature about behavioral intervention performed by distance to sleep problems in childhood and summarize the main characteristics of such interventions. Searches were performed up to November 2021 in BVS Psicologia ULAPSI Brasil, SCOPUS, and PsycINFO, using the key words: sleep problems, insomnia, nighttime fears, behavioral intervention, behavioral treatment, treatment, intervention, sleep, behavior, child, children, infant, mobile phones, smartphone, app, telephone, online, internet, bibliotherapy. We included 14 studies. The main results indicate that interventions were implemented between 2 and 12 weeks, the most reported procedure was pre-sleep routines, and semipresential interventions that required some presential contact were the most frequent. Written educational information about sleep through bibliotherapy and telephone contacts were the most used tools to implement the remote component of interventions. Ten studies indicated improvements on children’s sleep, and secondary results (parental sleep and/or mental health) were also reported among studies. Therefore, our findings suggest that distance interventions for childhood sleep problems are promising, but future research is still neede

PURPOSE: Compare parents' reports of youth problems (PRYP) with adolescent problems self-reports (APSR) pre/post behavioral treatment of nocturnal enuresis (NE) based on the use of a urine alarm. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Adolescents (N = 19) with mono-symptomatic (primary or secondary) nocturnal enuresis group treatment for 40 weeks. Discharge criterion was established as 8 weeks with consecutive dry nights. PRYP and APSR were scored by the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and Youth Self-Report (YSR). RESULTS: Pre-treatment data: 1) Higher number of clinical cases based on parent report than on self-report for Internalizing Problems (IP) (13/19 vs. 4/19), Externalizing Problems (EP) (7/19 vs. 5/19) and Total Problem (TP) (11/19 vs. 5/19); 2) Mean PRYP scores for IP (60.8) and TP (61) were within the deviant range (T score ≥ 60); while mean PRYP scores for EP (57.4) and mean APSR scores (IP = 52.4, EP = 49.5, TP = 52.4) were within the normal range. Difference between PRYP' and APSR' scores was significant. Post treatment data: 1) Discharge for majority of the participants (16/19); 2) Reduction in the number of clinical cases on parental evaluation: 9/19 adolescents remained within clinical range for IP, 2/19 for EP, and 7/19 for TP. 3) All post-treatment mean scores were within the normal range; the difference between pre and post evaluation scores was significant for PRYP. CONCLUSIONS: The behavioral treatment based on the use of urine alarm is effective for adolescents with mono-symptomatic (primary and secondary) nocturnal enuresis. The study favors the hypothesis that enuresis is a cause, not a consequence, of other behavioral problems.FAPESPCNPqUS

A METÁFORA AGUDA EM JOHN DONNE

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT: John Donne (1572-1631) was elected by his contemporaries the "King" of a "Monarchy of wit". This research aims at considering the rhetorical implications involved in the concept of wit, as well as the value placed upon it as far as poetry is concerned. For this purpose, we have read and analyzed selected precepts and theories written in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, such as George Putenham's Arte of English Poesie, and Samuel Daniel's A Defense of Ryme. Taking into account what was prescribed for poetry in Donne's time, we intend to arrive at an understanding of the workings of his witty metaphors and of how they reached a high degree of success

“A Visão Imaginária de Minha Alma”: a poética renascentista e a noção de imaginação

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the conceptual significance of “imagination” was indebted primarily to Aristotle’s theory of the phantasia, translated as imaginatio and thoroughly discussed in treatises on poetry, rhetoric and philosophy. In this text, I intend to briefly explore some ideas concerning the historical specificity of the notion of “imagination” in Renaissance poetics, attempting to avoid a transhistorical approach to the study of poetry and its interpretation. In order to do this, I will present specific passages from Philip Sidney’s The Defense of Poetry (1595), Francis Bacon’s The Advancement of Learning (1605) and Shakespeare’s works.
