Efeito do grupo genético e suplementação com óleo no metaboloma da carne de bovinos

Trinta bovinos Nelore (B. indicus) e 30 bovinos Nelore x Angus (B. indicus x B. taurus) foram alimentados em confinamento durante 100 dias, com duas dietas: dieta controlo, sem óleo de soja (DC) e uma dieta contendo 3,5% de óleo de soja (DO). Após o abate amostras do músculo Longissimus foram colhidas, deixadas a maturar por 72 horas e utilizadas para avaliação do metaboloma, através de análises de Ressonância Magnética Nuclear (NMR). Os dados foram analisados através de uma Análise de Componentes Principais (PCA). Foram identificados 42 metabolitos presentes em todas as amostras de carnes e conseguiu-se quantificar 29. Entre eles destacam-se o glicerol (130 μmolar), lactato (21,6 μmolar), ácido glucónico (11 μmolar) e a creatinina (10,3 μmolar) com maior concentração. Observou-se que não houve formação de grupos específicos em função do tratamento, sugerindo não haver diferenças no metaboloma das amostras de carne de bovinos devido à influência do grupo genético e da dietaN/

Path planning trajectories in fluid environments

This paper deals with the problem of finding a mission path that minimizes acceleration and drag while a vehicle moves from an initial position to a final target in fluid environments. A variational problem will be formulated in the general context of manifolds, where the energy functional depends on acceleration and drag forces. The corresponding Euler-Lagrange equations will be derived. Questions regarding the integrability of the Euler-Lagrange equations are the main challenge of this problem even when the geometry of the configuration space is not taken into consideration. This is mainly due to the fact that the power needed to overcome the drag forces is proportional to the cube of the speed. A Recommender System Based on Cohorts’ Similarity

[Abstract] Aiming to better understand the genetic and environmental associations of Alzheimer's disease, many clinical trials and scientific studies have been conducted. However, these studies are often based on a small number of participants. To address this limitation, there is an increasing demand of multi-cohorts studies, which can provide higher statistical power and clinical evidence. However, this data integration implies dealing with the diversity of cohorts structures and the wide variability of concepts. Moreover, discovering similar cohorts to extend a running study is typically a demanding task. In this paper, we present a recommendation system to allow finding similar cohorts based on profile interests. The method uses collaborative filtering mixed with context-based retrieval techniques to find relevant cohorts on scientific literature about Alzheimer's diseases. Participação social de alunos com necessidades educativas especiais numa escola do Algarve

Dissertação de mestrado, Educação Especial - Domínios Cognitivo e Motor, Escola Superior de Educação e Comunicação, Universidade do Algarve, 2017A inclusão de alunos com Necessidades Educativas Especiais [NEE] no ensino regular é hoje uma realidade na escola pública portuguesa. Atualmente são valores centrais das políticas educativas o direito ao acesso a uma educação de qualidade e oportunidades equitativas de sucesso e de participação. Com o presente estudo - Participação Social de alunos com Necessidades Educativas Especiais numa escola EB 2/3 do Algarve - pretendemos caraterizar a Participação Social [PS] de alunos com NEE, numa Escola EB 2/3 - do Algarve. A metodologia utilizada no âmbito deste estudo é quantitativa, com um cariz descritivo e exploratório. A recolha de dados foi efetuada através de quatro instrumentos: testes sociométricos, questionários de autoperceção aos alunos, questionário aos Diretores de Turma [DT] e questionário aos Professores de Educação Especial [PEE]. Participam neste estudo oitenta alunos do 7.º ano de escolaridade, cinco DT e três PEE. Os resultados deste estudo indicam que a PS dos alunos com NEE na escola que frequentam é positiva, revelando uma equidade relativa em relação aos seus pares sem NEE, onde todos os alunos usufruem e desenvolvem as mesmas atividades conforme consta no Projeto Educativo da instituição [PE]. No entanto, os níveis evidenciados de PS são ligueiramente inferiores aos seus pares sem NEE, indo ao encontro de estudos realizados no âmbito da PS que defendem que nem todos os alunos com NEE vivenciam experiências negativas em ambiente escolar quanto à sua PS. O estudo revela que os alunos com NEE obtêm perceções positivas em todos os domínios avaliados, apresentam bom desempenho académico, são aceites socialmente pelos colegas de turma, apesar de serem menos populares do que os seus pares sem NEE, e que os alunos com desenvolvimento normotípico têm uma visão positiva face aos colegas com NEE

Enhancing locality in Java based irregular applications

Improving locality of memory accesses in current and future multi-core platforms is a key to efficiently exploit those platforms. Irregular applications, which operate on pointer-based data structures, are hard to optimize in modern computer architectures due to their intrinsic unpredictable patterns of memory accesses. In this paper we explore a memory locality-driven set of data-structures in order to attenuate the memory bandwidth limitations from typical irregular algorithms. We identify the inefficiencies in the standard Java implementation of a priority-queue as one of the main memory limitations in Prim’s Minimal Spanning Tree algorithm. We also present a priority-queue using the data layout inspired in Van Emde Boas for ordering heaps. We also implement optimizations in the graph data-structure and explore ways to efficiently combine it with the memory-efficient priority-queue. An innovative device for bobbin thread consumption measurement on industrial lockstitch sewing machines

Comunicação apresentada na International Conference on Industrial Technology, Hammamet, Tunisia, 8 - 10 Dezembro 2004.This paper presents some development work following up on previous research on monitoring and control techniques for high-speed industrial sewing machines. The main objective of the studies is to develop techniques and devices to allow a faster set-up, greater flexibility and higher product quality in industrial sewing operations. One of the main aspects of the sewing process is the interlacing of threads – stitch formation. It has been found that the on-line measurement of thread consumption can provide information about stitch adjustment and serve as a feedback variable for thread tension control. In this paper, an overview of this technique will be given, with particular focus on the quantification of bobbin thread consumption in lockstitch machines, one of the most widely used type of machine.
