This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nitrate salts and a growth regulator on seed conditioning. Subsequently, the responses of the influence of the leaf application of paclobutrazol (PBZ) and nitrogen on the quality of seedlings of Capsicum frutescens L. were evaluated. Two experiments were carried out. The first experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design to evaluate priming, as follows: T1 – control, T2 – control (water), T3 – 0.2% calcium nitrate, T4 – 0.2% potassium nitrate, T5 – 0.1% calcium nitrate + 0.1% potassium nitrate, T6 – PBZ, and T7 – PBZ + 0.1% calcium nitrate + 0.1% potassium nitrate. The second experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in a 2×5 factorial scheme consisting of priming (absence and presence of calcium nitrate) and leaf application of growth regulator, as follows: control (water), PBZ, PBZ + 1% nitrogen (calcium nitrate), PBZ + 1% nitrogen (urea), and PBZ + nitrogen (0.5% calcium nitrate + 0.5% urea). Physiological conditioning with a solution of 0.1% calcium nitrate increased the germination and seedling emergence rate and resulted in seedlings with a higher shoot length at 33 days after sowing (DAS), but seedlings at 50 DAS showed no differences in growth with its use. Leaf application of 0.1% paclobutrazol provided pepper (C. frutescens L.) seedlings with better distribution in growth according to the Dickson quality index

OBJECTIVE: To identify the independent variables associated with death within 4 days after the first sepsis-induced organ dysfunction. METHODS: In this prospective observational study, severe sepsis and septic shock patients were classified into 3 groups: Group 1, survivors; Group 2, late non-survivors; and Group 3, early non-survivors. Early death was defined as death occurring within 4 days after the first sepsis-induced organ dysfunction. Demographic, clinical and laboratory data were collected and submitted to univariate and multinomial analyses. RESULTS: The study included 414 patients: 218 (52.7%) in Group 1, 165 (39.8%) in Group 2, and 31 (7.5%) in Group 3. A multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that age, Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score, Sepsis-related Organ Failure Assessment score after the first 24 hours, nosocomial infection, hepatic dysfunction, and the time elapsed between the onset of organ dysfunction and the sepsis diagnosis were associated with early mortality. In contrast, Black race and a source of infection other than the urinary tract were associated with late death. Among the non-survivors, early death was associated with Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score, chronic renal failure, hepatic dysfunction Sepsis-related Organ Failure Assessment score after 24 hours, and the duration of organ dysfunction. CONCLUSION: Factors related to patients' intrinsic characteristics and disease severity as well as the promptness of sepsis recognition are associated with early death among severe septic patients.Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao PauloFederal University of São Paulo Department of Anesthesiology Pain and Critical CareLatin American Sepsis InstituteFederal University of São Paulo Department of Infectious DiseasesSírio Libanês Hospital Intensive Care UnitHospital Israelita Albert Einstein Intensive Care UnitUNIFESP, Department of Anesthesiology Pain and Critical CareUNIFESP, Department of Infectious DiseasesSciEL

To systematically review literature in relation to the effects of health education interventions on the level of physical activities for police officers. A systematic review of controlled clinical trials, real-life experiences, quasi-experimental and observational studies investigating the effects of health education interventions in relation to the level of physical activities for police officers. The following electronic data-bases were adopted: Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Education Resources Information Center and Plataforma Rede Nacional de Atenção Integral à Saúde do Trabalhador. Data collection was carried out in accordance with the main items for systematic reviews. Five articles were selected (N=1302 participants). Improvements to primary and secondary outcomes in the interventions performed in groups or individually, in person and with long-term monitoring, were observed. With reference to the outcomes, educational interventions enabled the improvement, in a statistically significant manner, of the level of physical activities (60% of the studies), reduce body mass index (60% of the studies) and reduce arterial blood pressure (20% of the studies). Educational interventions are capable of improving the level of physical activities, body mass index and arterial blood pressure for police officers

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of the Class A (TCA) and Hargreaves-Samani (HS) method, compared to the Penman-Monteith method (PM), to determine reference evapotranspiration (ETo) in Januária, MG . Climatic data from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2016 were used, belonging to the INMET weather station database. Correlation, linear regression and Willmott concordance and performance index determinations were performed. According to the results obtained, it can be concluded that the TCA method overestimates ETo in the Januária-MG region, but performed well when adjusted to the PM method. Regarding the HS method, the results obtained show that it overestimated ETo in most of the months, but showed a high correlation coefficient and satisfactory performance, so that both methods can be used to estimate ETo in the region of Januária MG, when not have all the data necessary for determination by the PM method.O estudo objetivou avaliar o desempenho do método do tanque classe “A” (TCA) e Hargreaves-Samani (HS), comparados ao método de Penman-Monteith (PM), para determinação da evapotranspiração de referência (ETo), em Januária, MG.

Objective: To identify the contribution of all the dimensions involved in job insecurity among nursing professionals in Brazilian state public hospitals. Method: This was a quantitative descriptive study conducted between March 2015 and February 2016, with nurses, nursing technicians and nursing aides. The data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis. Results: The sample consisted of 265 nurses (n=161 with job security and n=104 outsourced) and 810 nursing technicians and nursing aides (n=597 with job security and n=213 outsourced). Among the nurses, “Working conditions” accounted for 46.8% of their job insecurity. Among nursing technicians and nursing aides “intensity of work due to work process organization” best explained the construct of job insecurity (51.2%). Conclusion: Job insecurity is expressed differently depending on the type of nursing professional. The difference in the distribution of the dimensions showed that job insecurity is related to the hierarchical position of each nursing professional in the technical division of nursing work and the role of each professional in the work process

The banana production in the north of Minas Gerais state is based on the “Prata-Anã” cultivar, holding 90% of the 10,000 hectares cultivated with the species. Such cultivar is vulnerable to Yellow and Black Sigatoka, as well as to the Panama disease. A strategy to overcome these phytosanitary problems is the development of resistant cultivars, which need field testing. This study aimed to determine the yield and the nutritional diagnosis for N and K of banana tree cultivars FHIA 1, FHIA 2, FHIA 3, Pacovan Ken, Thap Maeo, Tropical, Caipira, ST406, PV4285, and PV4253, resistant to Yellow Sigatoka. Also, Prata anã, a disease-sensitive cultivar, was used as a control treatment. According to the results, the FHIA 3 produced bunches with more mass, standing out among cultivars of the tetraploid genomic group. However, complimentary assessment is necessary to be suggested as a cultivar in the commercial crops, mainly the acceptability of its fruits by consumers. FHIA 2 has also produced bunches with meaningful mass, being an alternative to bananas of the Cavendish subgroup due to the similar taste. Thap Maeo, among the triploid cultivars, reached a high yield, being an alternative to the cultivation of the apple banana tree, as it is resistant to Yellow and Black Sigatoka and the Panama disease in addition to producing fruits of adequate taste. The N and K contents were in the sufficiency range, revealing that in such environmental conditions, plants were sufficiently nourished.

The addition of organic and inorganic amendments can improve soil structure and reduce soil compaction. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate whether the application of amendments reduces penetration resistance (PR) in the short term and describe the spatial variability of PR in the surface horizon of an Aquic Argiudoll under no-tillage in northeast Argentina. Four treatments, consisting of surface applications of 7.5 Mg ha−1 poultry litter (PL), 3.0 Mg ha−1 gypsum (G), the combination of PL+G, and untreated control (T), were arranged in a complete randomized block design with three replications. Two more treatments were added to the experiment 12 months later, consisting of PL reapplications on half of the surface of the PL+G and PL treatments (PL+G+PL and PL+PL, respectively) in a split-plot design with three replications in 4×20-m plots. PR was determined in the field with an Eijkelkamp penetrologger following a 2-m long transect perpendicular to the sowing direction at 10 different spots separated 0.2 m from each other. The spatial variability was quantified for each treatment using semivariograms. The highest PR was observed in the T treatment (1.96 MPa) and the lowest PR in PL+G+PL (0.21 MPa). All treatments showed a high spatial dependence (94.9 to 99.9%). Treatments with PL reapplication (PL+PL and PL+G+PL) showed profiles with lower PR and more homogeneous kriging maps. PL reapplication on PL treatments showed no effects on PR values. However, PL reapplication on the PL+G treatment led to positive effects in all PR ranges. Thus, the PL+G+PL treatment, which had the highest PR values, showed a decrease in PR from 54.17 to 6.65% with the reapplication 12 months later. The addition of organic and inorganic amendments reduced specific compacted soil areas on the surface horizon of an Aquic Argiudoll under no-tillage.EEA ParanáFil: Barbieri, Rayner Sversut.
