O estudo tem como objetivo identificar e caracterizar as unidades geoambientais existentes no Município de Coreaú – Ceará, através da metodologia geossistêmica proposta por Bertrand - onde seu método de análise da paisagem é feito de forma sistêmica considerando a relação existente entre os elementos que a compõem. Neste caso refere-se ao relevo de áreas do semiárido nordestino, no qual tem no seu processo de formação a atuação do clima em sua pedogênese e na predominância no intemperismo físico
Utilising surface-level data to explore surface, tooth, individual and family influence on the aetiology of hypomineralised second primary molars
OBJECTIVES: Hypomineralised second primary molars (HSPM) are common developmental enamel defects. The aims of this study were to use surface-level data to explore the clustering of HSPM at four levels (family, child, tooth, surface). METHODS: This study of 172 twin pairs was nested within the Peri/postnatal Epigenetic Twin Study. HSPM was measured by standardised oral examinations at age 6 years. Multilevel logistic regression models were fitted to assess the correlation structure of surface level data and variation in HSPM. The associations between surface level risk factors and HSPM were then explored using the multilevel logistic regression model using the best fitting correlation structure. RESULTS: The prevalence of HSPM was 68 (19.8%) children, with a total of 141 (10.3%) teeth and 264 tooth surfaces (6.3%) affected. Multilevel models revealed that a hierarchical structure accounting for correlation at the family, child and tooth level best accounted for the variation in HSPM. The estimated variances from the best fitting model (Model 3) were largest at the family level (12.27, 95% CI 6.68, 22.51) compared with 5.23 at the child level and 1.93 at the tooth level. Application of regression analysis utilising this three-level correlation structure identified tooth/surface level factors in addition to the previously identified familial and individual risk factors for HSPM. CONCLUSION: In addition to familial (environmental and genetic) and unique child-level factors, the aetiology of HSPM is likely to be influenced by local tooth-level factors
Mucoid morphotype variation of Burkholderia multivorans during chronic cystic fibrosis lung infection is correlated with changes in metabolism, motility, biofilm formation and virulence
Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc) bacteria are opportunistic pathogens infecting hosts such as cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. Long-term Bcc infection of CF patients' airways has been associated with emergence of phenotypic variation. Here we studied two Burkholderia multivorans clonal isolates displaying different morphotypes from a chronically infected CF patient to evaluate trait development during lung infection. Expression profiling of mucoid D2095 and non-mucoid D2214 isolates revealed decreased expression of genes encoding products related to virulence-associated traits and metabolism in D2214. Furthermore, D2214 showed no exopolysaccharide production, lower motility and chemotaxis, and more biofilm formation, particularly under microaerophilic conditions, than the clonal mucoid isolate D2095. When Galleria mellonella was used as acute infection model, D2214 at a cell number of approximately 7×10(6) c.f.u. caused a higher survival rate than D2095, although 6 days post-infection most of the larvae were dead. Infection with the same number of cells by mucoid D2095 caused larval death by day 4. The decreased expression of genes involved in carbon and nitrogen metabolism may reflect lower metabolic needs of D2214 caused by lack of exopolysaccharide, but also by the attenuation of pathways not required for survival. As a result, D2214 showed higher survival than D2095 in minimal medium for 28 days under aerobic conditions. Overall, adaptation during Bcc chronic lung infections gave rise to genotypic and phenotypic variation among isolates, contributing to their fitness while maintaining their capacity for survival in this opportunistic human niche
Comparison Of Potassium And Sodium Content In Diet And Non-diet Soft Drinks By Using Capillary Electrophoresis With Capacitively Coupled Contactless Conductivity Detection
Capillary electrophoresis (CE) with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (C4D) was used for determination of sodium and potassium concentrations in diet and non-diet soft drinks. Higher sodium concentrations were found in the diet samples due to the utilization of sodium salts of cyclamate and saccharine as sweeteners. Distinguishing sequences for partially specified FSMs
Distinguishing Sequences (DSs) are used inmany Finite State Machine (FSM) based test techniques. Although Partially Specified FSMs (PSFSMs) generalise FSMs, the computational complexity of constructing Adaptive and Preset DSs (ADSs/PDSs) for PSFSMs has not been addressed. This paper shows that it is possible to check the existence of an ADS in polynomial time but the corresponding problem for PDSs is PSPACE-complete. We also report on the results of experiments with benchmarks and over 8 * 106 PSFSMs. © 2014 Springer International Publishing
The wool proteome and fibre characteristics of three distinct genetic ovine breeds from Portugal
Wool properties and commodity value vary considerably between breeds. In Portugal, three major ovine groups exist: Churros, Bordaleiros and Merinos. This work studies the effect of the ovine genotype on the wool proteome of such groups. Wool was collected from 15 ewes/breed and genetic groups: Churra da Terra Quente (CTQ) or Churro, Serra da Estrela (SE) or Bordaleiro and Merino Branco (MB) or Merino. Proteins were extracted and subjected to label-free proteomics analysis. A total of 50 keratinous protein groups were identified in all the samples, divided into type I and II keratins and the keratin associated proteins: high-glycine-tyrosine proteins, ultra-high sulphur proteins and high-sulphur proteins. Major differences were found between MB and CTQ with respect to K75 and K38, both medullar proteins and to a lesser extent between SE and CTQ suggesting that these might be good markers for this trait in wool. Partial least squares discriminatory analysis proved MB to be readily distinguishable from the other two breeds. Further differences were noted in keratin associated protein levels between the three breeds, normally an indicator of higher levels of orthocortex and also their relationship to high curvature, high crimp fibres like Merinoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
Iron and Nickel spectral opacity calculations in conditions relevant for pulsating stellar envelopes and experiments
Seismology of stars is strongly developing. To address this question we have
formed an international collaboration OPAC to perform specific experimental
measurements, compare opacity calculations and improve the opacity calculations
in the stellar codes [1]. We consider the following opacity codes: SCO,
CASSANDRA, STA, OPAS, LEDCOP, OP, SCO-RCG. Their comparison has shown large
differences for Fe and Ni in equivalent conditions of envelopes of type II
supernova precursors, temperatures between 15 and 40 eV and densities of a few
mg/cm3 [2, 3, 4]. LEDCOP, OPAS, SCO-RCG structure codes and STA give similar
results and differ from OP ones for the lower temperatures and for spectral
interval values [3]. In this work we discuss the role of Configuration
Interaction (CI) and the influence of the number of used configurations. We
present and include in the opacity code comparisons new HULLAC-v9 calculations
[5, 6] that include full CI. To illustrate the importance of this effect we
compare different CI approximations (modes) available in HULLAC-v9 [7]. These
results are compared to previous predictions and to experimental data.

Estimativa da área foliar do pepino em ambiente protegido por medidas lineares sob salinidade e enxertia
The measurement of leaf area by linear parameters is a useful tool when plants cannot be destroyed for direct measurement. The objectives of this study were to establish equations to estimate the leaf area of greenhouse-cucumber and to evaluate the effects of salinity and grafting on this estimative. Non-grafted cucumber seedlings, cv. 'Hokushin', were transplanted in a greenhouse and were irrigated with water of different salinities (1.0, 3.2 and 5.0 dS m-1). In the second growing period, the same cultivar was grafted on Cucurbita spp. and the plants were irrigated with water of 1.4, 3.0 and 5.3 dS m-1. Leaves of different sizes were collected from both experiments and leaf area was determined by an integrating area meter. Leaf length (L) and width (W) were also recorded. An equation for estimating the leaf area from L and W was developed for a given salinity level or grafting condition and estimated well the area of leaves collected in the other treatments. The leaf area (LA) of cucumber 'Hokushin' could be estimated using the equation LA = 0.88LW - 4.27, for any grafting and salinity conditions.A determinação da área foliar por medidas lineares é uma ferramenta útil quando as plantas não podem ser destruídas para que a medição direta seja realizada. Os objetivos desse trabalho foram definir equações para a estimativa da área foliar do pepino em ambiente protegido e avaliar os efeitos da salinidade e da a enxertia nessa estimativa. Mudas de pepino, cv. 'Hokushin', não enxertadas, foram transplantadas em um ambiente protegido e irrigadas com água de diferentes salinidades (1,0, 3,2 e 5,0 dS m-1). No segundo período de cultivo, a mesma cultivar foi enxertada sobre Cucurbita spp., sendo as plantas irrigadas com água de 1,4, 3,0 e 5,3 dS m-1. Foram coletadas folhas de diferentes tamanhos dos dois cultivos e dos três tratamentos e a área foliar foi determinada por um medidor de área foliar. O comprimento (C) e a largura (L) da folha também foram registrados. Desenvolveram-se equações pelas quais a área foliar pôde ser estimada a partir de medidas de C e L. A equação desenvolvida para um dado nível de salinidade ou condição de enxertia estimou bem a área das folhas coletadas nos demais tratamentos. A área foliar (AF) do pepino 'Hokushin' pode ser estimada pela função AF = 0,88CL - 4,27, para qualquer condição de enxertia e salinidade
