We compute the entanglement entropy, in real space, of the ground state of the integer Quantum Hall states for three different domains embedded in the torus, the disk and the sphere. We establish the validity of the area law with a vanishing value of the topological entanglement entropy. Construction of spin models displaying quantum criticality from quantum field theory

We provide a method for constructing finite temperature states of one-dimensional spin chains displaying quantum criticality. These models are constructed using correlators of products of quantum fields and have an analytical purification. Their properties can be investigated by Monte-Carlo simulations, which enable us to study the low-temperature phase diagram and to show that it displays a region of quantum criticality. The mixed states obtained are shown to be close to the thermal state of a simple nearest neighbour Hamiltonian.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure

Lattice effects on Laughlin wave functions and parent Hamiltonians

We investigate lattice effects on wave functions that are lattice analogues of bosonic and fermionic Laughlin wave functions with number of particles per flux $\nu=1/q$ in the Landau levels. These wave functions are defined analytically on lattices with $\mu$ particles per lattice site, where $\mu$ may be different than $\nu$. We give numerical evidence that these states have the same topological properties as the corresponding continuum Laughlin states for different values of $q$ and for different fillings $\mu$. These states define, in particular, particle-hole symmetric lattice Fractional Quantum Hall states when the lattice is half-filled. On the square lattice it is observed that for $q\leq 4$ this particle-hole symmetric state displays the topological properties of the continuum Laughlin state at filling fraction $\nu=1/q$, while for larger $q$ there is a transition towards long-range ordered anti-ferromagnets. This effect does not persist if the lattice is deformed from a square to a triangular lattice, or on the Kagome lattice, in which case the topological properties of the state are recovered. We then show that changing the number of particles while keeping the expression of these wave functions identical gives rise to edge states that have the same correlations in the bulk as the reference lattice Laughlin states but a different density at the edge. We derive an exact parent Hamiltonian for which all these edge states are ground states with different number of particles. In addition this Hamiltonian admits the reference lattice Laughlin state as its unique ground state of filling factor $1/q$. Parent Hamiltonians are also derived for the lattice Laughlin states at other fillings of the lattice, when $\mu\leq 1/q$ or $\mu\geq 1-1/q$ and when $q=4$ also at half-filling.Comment: 18 pages, 15 figure

Bacterial-foraging optimization algorithm for non-hazardous plant layouts

PresentationThe following article approaches a safe plant layout design problem based on a bacterial-foraging optimization algorithm. Our approach finds the position in the two dimensional plane for each main process unit and evaluates the possibility of secondary contention for pertinent units, in order to minimize capital costs associated to equipment loss, piping, secondary contention, and usage of area. Fire and Explosion hazard is considered as the relevant safety aspect for distribution, and it is assessed through Dow’s Fire and Explosion Index. The proposed solution approach provides an alternative to hard-optimization methods, by allowing greater flexibility in accounting for both safety and economic aspects, while providing high quality solutions in a limited computation time. The aim of our proposed solution approach is to provide support to expert decision-making during the early plant layout design steps. A case study based on an acrylic-acid production plant, which has been used by several other papers that appeared in the literature, serves the purposes of showing the appropriateness and effectiveness of the method

La cuantificación al Sistema Integrado de Gestión en la Fuerza Terrestre durante el 2018, alcanzó un valor de 53.3 % como resultado de la interrelación ponderada de tres vectores, el primer vector corresponde a la gestión por procesos que se determina mediante el relacionamiento de la evaluación de los procesos (indicadores de resultado y desempeño) con la valoración de la implementación del modelo de gestión por procesos (documentación, implementación, medición y mejora) obteniéndose un porcentaje de 50.35 %, el segundo vector es el direccionamiento estratégico que relaciona el cumplimiento de los objetivos estratégicos del plan de gestión a través de los planes operativos resultado matemático de este análisis se alcanzó un valor de 62 % y el tercer vector es la gestión de riesgo. En el Informe de Gestión del Ejército en el año 2017 la valoración al Sistema Integrado de Gestión en la Fuerza Terrestre, alcanzó un valor de 62.14 %, experimentando en el 2018 un decremento de 8.84 % como efecto de la acción de eventos de índole interno como externo que incidieron en forma directa en la gestión institucional

La didáctica de la matemática como disciplina científica. El uso de la historia como herramienta metodológica

En la actualidad podemos decir que la matemática educativa tiene ya un camino andado que la sitúa como disciplina científica. En este escrito haremos un recuento breve del recorrido que tuvo que realizar para ello, desde las necesidades que motivaron su surgimiento, hasta el proceso de búsqueda de independencia y de identidad para constituirse como disciplina científica, definiendo su propia problemática, su campo de estudio. Como es natural sospechar, este proceso no es exclusivo de México, se ha dado de manera mundial desde muy distintas perspectivas, fruto de lo cual tenemos una amplia variedad de marcos teóricos y metodológicos que atienden la misma problemática. Expondremos de manera particular el caso de la didáctica de la matemática en España y, como ejemplo de aplicación, el uso de la metodología histórica como una opción más para enfrentar los problemas propios de nuestra disciplina

A survey in natural forest ecosystems of Vietnam reveals high diversity of both new and described Phytophthora taxa including P. ramorum

In 2016 and 2017, surveys of Phytophthora diversity were performed in 25 natural and semi-natural forest stands and 16 rivers in temperate and subtropical montane and tropical lowland regions of Vietnam. Using baiting assays from soil samples and rivers and direct isolations from naturally fallen leaves, 13 described species, five informally designated taxa and 21 previously unknown taxa of Phytophthora were isolated from 58 of the 91 soil samples (63.7%) taken from the rhizosphere of 52 of the 64 woody plant species sampled (81.3%) in 20 forest stands (83.7%), and from all rivers: P. capensis, P. citricola VII, VIII, IX, X and XI, P. sp. botryosa-like 2, P. sp. meadii-like 1 and 2, P. sp. tropicalis-like 2 and P. sp. multivesiculata-like 1 from Phytophthora major phylogenetic Clade 2; P. castaneae and P. heveae from Clade 5; P. chlamydospora, P. gregata, P. sp. bitahaiensis-like and P. sp. sylvatica-like 1, 2 and 3 from Clade 6; P. cinnamomi (Pc), P. parvispora, P. attenuata, P. sp. attenuata-like 1, 2 and 3 and P. ×heterohybrida from Clade 7; P. drechsleri, P. pseudocryptogea, P. ramorum (Pr) and P. sp. kelmania from Clade 8, P. macrochlamydospora, P. sp. ×insolita-like, P. sp. ×kunnunara-like, P. sp. ×virginiana-like s.l. and three new taxa, P. sp. quininea-like, P. sp. ×Grenada 3-like and P. sp. ×Peru 4-like, from Clade 9; and P. sp. gallica-like 1 and 2 from Clade 10. The A1 and A2 mating types of both Pc and Pr co-occurred. The A2 mating type of Pc was associated with severe dieback of montane forests in northern Vietnam. Most other Phytophthora species, including Pr, were not associated with obvious disease symptoms. It is concluded that (1) Vietnam is within the center of origin of most Phytophthora taxa found including Pc and Pr, and (2) Phytophthora clades 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are native to Indochina.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
