Particular object retrieval with integral max-pooling of CNN activations
Recently, image representation built upon Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)
has been shown to provide effective descriptors for image search, outperforming
pre-CNN features as short-vector representations. Yet such models are not
compatible with geometry-aware re-ranking methods and still outperformed, on
some particular object retrieval benchmarks, by traditional image search
systems relying on precise descriptor matching, geometric re-ranking, or query
expansion. This work revisits both retrieval stages, namely initial search and
re-ranking, by employing the same primitive information derived from the CNN.
We build compact feature vectors that encode several image regions without the
need to feed multiple inputs to the network. Furthermore, we extend integral
images to handle max-pooling on convolutional layer activations, allowing us to
efficiently localize matching objects. The resulting bounding box is finally
used for image re-ranking. As a result, this paper significantly improves
existing CNN-based recognition pipeline: We report for the first time results
competing with traditional methods on the challenging Oxford5k and Paris6k

Coping strategies in psychology students
The objective of this research was to understand the types of coping strategies that used college students and its relationship with academic variables, such as year of courses and number of subjects approved, as well as with the genus. Walsh functions: analysis of their properties under Fresnel diffraction
The free-propagation properties of the light field diffracted by an aperture, have been investigated by employing a formalism based on the orthogonal and complete set of Walsh functions. We found an interesting link with the well-known self-imaging phenomenon, which can be used to explain the spatial filtering properties of many optical devices. An experimental result is given in order to illustrate this approach
Optical velocimetry based on the spatial correlation of off-axis image speckle patterns
A method is proposed for measuring the linear velocity of a moving rough surface. It is based on maximizing the spatial correlation between two laterally shifted image speckle patterns. Besides, an expression of a spatially variant point-spread function is given, which modifies the spatial distributions of the off axis image speckle patterns
Pseudocoloring method for 3-D contouring
The interference properties of white light speckle pattern obtained with an optical system not corrected for chromatic aberration are applied to pseudocolor encode the depth level contours of a 3-D diffusing object. At a first step, a recording of the different encoded images of depth levels is done. In a second step, a reconstructed pseudocolored image is obtained, where different color assignements can be tuned by changing the position of a spatial filter slit. Also, a quantitative contouring can be made scanning the pseudocolored image plane with a spectroscopic device
A speckle method of gray level pseudocoloring
A simple method of pseudocoloring gray level images is proposed. It is based on Young’s fringes modulated speckle encoding of images. Reconstruction from a photographic register is obtained using two light beams with different wavelengths at the same time. Pseudocoloring is produced by the superposition of a (diffracted) direct image in one color and a (directly transmitted) contrast reversed image in another color
Q-switching of an erbium-doped fibre laser modulated by a Bragg grating fixed to a piezoelectric
The performance of the Q-switched erbium-doped fibre laser with two fibre Bragg gratings as cavity mirrors was theoretically analysed, employing a set of rate equations for the ion populations and the photon flux inside the cavity. The simulation considers a system where the pulsed laser emission is produced by the temporal modulation of a Bragg grating fixed to a piezoelectric and operating in the 1550 nm spectral region. The temporal evolution of different frequency components of the laser emission produced is governed by the instantaneous overlap between the two gratings. Theoretical results are in agreement with previously reported experimental values
Optical image subtraction through speckle modulated by young fringes
A new method for subtracting images is proposed. It is based on assigning complementary Young's fringes to the speckles of the common parts of two images. In this way, carrier frequency is cancelled, and “a-posteriori” spatial filtering shows only noncommon parts. Suggestions on applications of the method are briefly commented
Color storage and image processing through Young's fringes modulated speckle
Young's fringes modulated speckle (YFMS) can be used for storing several pictures in a single photographic plate. In this Letter we present a simple application of this technique for color storage on black and white film, which allows information processing in different colors in an independent way
Cu-Al-Ni Shape Memory Single Crystal Wires with High Transformation Temperature
CN-250X is a new material with higher performance than Nickel-Titanium Shape Memory Alloy (SMA). For space mechanisms, the main disadvantage of Nickel-Titanium Shape Memory Alloy is the limited transformation temperature. The new CN-250X Nimesis alloy is a Cu-Al-Ni single crystal wire available in large quantity because of a new industrial process. The triggering of actuators made with this Cu-Al-Ni single crystal wire can range from ambient temperature to 200 C in cycling and even to 250 C in one-shot mode. Another advantage of CN-250X is a better shape recovery (8 to 10%) than Ni-Ti (6 to 7%). Nimesis is the first company able to produce this type of material with its new special industrial process. A characterization study is presented in this work, including the two main solicitation modes for this material: tensile and torsion. Different tests measure the shape recovery of Cu-Al-Ni single crystals wires during heating from room temperature to a temperature higher than temperature of end of martensitic transformation
