    A failure study of the railway rail serviced for heavy cargo trains

    AbstractIn this case study, a failed railway rail which was used for heavy cargo trains was investigated in order to find out its root cause. The macroscopic beach marks and microscopic fatigue striations were not observed by macro and microscopic observations. The chevron patterns were observed by macro observations. The crack origin was at the tip of chevron patterns. The fan-shaped patterns, cleavage step and the river patterns were observed at the crack origin, which demonstrated the feature of cleavage fracture. The metallurgical structures at the crack origin were pearlite and ferrite networks. The crack is supposed to be initiated from the weaker ferrite networks. Given all of that, the failed railway rail is considered to be caused by overload. It is of great importance to improve the welding technology, and control the load of train in order to prevent similar failure in future

    Growth of High Quality ZnMgO Films on Diamond Substrates

    AbstractZnMgO films were prepared at room temperature on freestanding diamond (FSD) substrates by co-sputtering. The Mg content was controlled by varying RF sputtering power of MgO and the effects of Mg contents on the properties of ZnMgO films were investigated. The results showed that the (0002) peak of ZnMgO shifted from 34.5° to 35.6° with the increasing sputtering power of MgO target. The UV-visible and PL spetra of ZnMgO films revealed that the bandgap of ZnMgO was approximately linear related to the sputtering power of MgO target

    Electroweak Radiative Corrections to Parity-Violating Electroexcitation of the Δ\Delta

    We analyze the degree to which parity-violating (PV) electroexcitation of the Δ(1232)\Delta(1232) resonance may be used to extract the weak neutral axial vector transition form factors. We find that the axial vector electroweak radiative corrections are large and theoretically uncertain, thereby modifying the nominal interpretation of the PV asymmetry in terms of the weak neutral form factors. We also show that, in contrast to the situation for elastic electron scattering, the axial NΔN\to\Delta PV asymmetry does not vanish at the photon point as a consequence of a new term entering the radiative corrections. We argue that an experimental determination of these radiative corrections would be of interest for hadron structure theory, possibly shedding light on the violation of Hara's theorem in weak, radiative hyperon decays.Comment: RevTex, 76 page

    Stimulated by recent observations of the excited bottom-strange mesons Bs1B_{s1} and Bs2B_{s2}^*, we calculate the semileptonic decays Bs0,Bs1,Bs1,Bs2[Ds(1968),Ds(2112),DsJ(2317),DsJ(2460)]νˉB_{s0}, B_{s1}^{\prime}, B_{s1}, B_{s2}^*\to [D_s(1968), D_{s}^*(2112), D_{sJ}(2317), D_{sJ}(2460)]\ell\bar{\nu}, which is relevant for the exploration of the potential of searching these semileptonic decays in experiment.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 9 tables.     Pair production of the heavy leptons in future high energy linear e^{+}e^{-} colliders

    The littlest Higgs model with T-parity predicts the existence of the T-odd particles, which can only be produced in pair. We consider pair production of the T-odd leptons in future high energy linear e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider (ILCILC). Our numerical results show that, as long as the T-odd leptons are not too heavy, they can be copiously produced and their possible signals might be detected via the processes e+eLˉiLje^{+}e^{-}\to \bar{L}_{i}L_{j} in future ILCILC experiments.Comment: Discussions added, typos and references correcte

    Knowledge discovery with CRF-based clustering of named entities without a priori classes

    International audienceKnowledge discovery aims at bringing out coherent groups of entities. It is usually based on clustering which necessitates defining a notion of similarity between the relevant entities. In this paper, we propose to divert a supervised machine learning technique (namely Conditional Random Fields, widely used for supervised labeling tasks) in order to calculate, indirectly and without supervision, similarities among text sequences. Our approach consists in generating artificial labeling problems on the data to reveal regularities between entities through their labeling. We describe how this framework can be implemented and experiment it on two information extraction/discovery tasks. The results demonstrate the usefulness of this unsupervised approach, and open many avenues for defining similarities for complex representations of textual data

    \psi(2S) Decays into \J plus Two Photons

    Using \gamma \gamma J/\psi, J/\psi \ra e^+ e^- and μ+μ\mu^+ \mu^- events from a sample of 14.0×10614.0\times 10^6 \psip decays collected with the BESII detector, the branching fractions for \psip\ra \pi^0\J, \eta\J, and \psi(2S)\ar\gamma\chi_{c1},\gamma\chi_{c2}\ar\gamma\gamma\jpsi are measured to be B(\psip\ra \pi^0\J) = (1.43\pm0.14\pm0.13)\times 10^{-3}, B(\psip\ra \eta\J) = (2.98\pm0.09\pm0.23)%, B(\psi(2S)\ar\gamma\chi_{c1}\ar\gamma\gamma\jpsi) = (2.81\pm0.05\pm 0.23)%, and B(\psi(2S)\ar\gamma\chi_{c2}\ar\gamma\gamma\jpsi) = (1.62\pm0.04\pm 0.12)%.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures. submitted to Phys.     Energy and system size dependence of \phi meson production in Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions

    We study the beam-energy and system-size dependence of \phi meson production (using the hadronic decay mode \phi -- K+K-) by comparing the new results from Cu+Cu collisions and previously reported Au+Au collisions at \sqrt{s_NN} = 62.4 and 200 GeV measured in the STAR experiment at RHIC. Data presented are from mid-rapidity (|y|<0.5) for 0.4 < pT < 5 GeV/c. At a given beam energy, the transverse momentum distributions for \phi mesons are observed to be similar in yield and shape for Cu+Cu and Au+Au colliding systems with similar average numbers of participating nucleons. The \phi meson yields in nucleus-nucleus collisions, normalised by the average number of participating nucleons, are found to be enhanced relative to those from p+p collisions with a different trend compared to strange baryons. The enhancement for \phi mesons is observed to be higher at \sqrt{s_NN} = 200 GeV compared to 62.4 GeV. These observations for the produced \phi(s\bar{s}) mesons clearly suggest that, at these collision energies, the source of enhancement of strange hadrons is related to the formation of a dense partonic medium in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions and cannot be alone due to canonical suppression of their production in smaller systems.Comment: 20 pages and 5 figure
