Late Cretaceous–earliest Paleogene deformation in the Longmen Shan fold-and-thrust belt, eastern Tibetan Plateau margin: pre-Cenozoic thickened crust?

This study presents structural and 40Ar/39Ar geochronological data from the southern part of the Longmen Shan fold-and-thrust belt that forms the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau. Investigations focused on hinterland ductile top-to-the-WNW shear deformation, which has been linked previously to late Cenozoic lower crustal flow. Consistent with previous studies, the sense of deformation is mapped as top-to-the-WNW in the Longmen Shan hinterland. The timing of the deformation is constrained by 40Ar/39Ar geochronological data of recrystallized minerals aligned along the shear foliation as Late Cretaceous–earliest Paleogene, thus predating the inferred late Cenozoic crustal flow. This deformation is contemporaneous with SE verging thrusting and loading along the Longmen Shan front, which formed a coeval ~2–3 km thick foredeep sequence along the southwestern margin of the Sichuan Basin. In the context of the regional geology, this tectonic configuration could result from either extrusion of a crustal wedge or back thrust in a duplex. Compared to other orogens, where similar crustal configurations have been reported, it is speculated that the eastern Tibetan Plateau margin acquired thickened crust and highly elevated topography in Late Cretaceous–earliest Paleogene time

Abstract To compare the safety and effectiveness of the combination of intelligent intrarenal pressure control platforms (IPCP) and flexible ureteral access sheath (FUAS) combined with retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for the treatment of renal stones less than 2 cm. We retrospectively collected 383 patients with renal stones who underwent RIRS in our department from June 2022 to October 2023. Inclusion criteria: stone length or the sum of multiple stone lengths ≀ 2 cm. Finally, 99 cases were included and divided into an IPCP group (n = 40) and FUAS group (n = 59) based on surgical methods. The main endpoint was the stone-free rate (SFR) at third months after surgery, with no residual stones or stone fragments less than 2 mm defined as stone clearance. The secondary endpoints were surgical time and perioperative complications, including fever, sepsis, septic shock, and perirenal hematoma. There was no statistically significant difference in general information between the two groups, including age, gender, body mass index, comorbidities, stone side, stone location, stone length, urine bacterial culture, and hydronephrosis. The operation time for IPCP group and FUAS group was 56.83 ± 21.33 vs 55.47 ± 19.69 min (p = 0.747). The SFR of IPCP group and FUAS group on the first postoperative day was 75.00% vs 91.50% (p = 0.024). The SFR was 90.00% vs 94.90% in the third month (p = 0.349).In IPCP group, there were 11 cases with stones located in the lower renal calyces and 17 cases in FUAS group. The SFR of the two groups on the first day and third months after surgery were 45.50% vs 88.20% (p = 0.014) and 63.60% vs 94.10% (p = 0.040), respectively, with statistical differences. For kidney stones ≀ 2 cm, there was no difference in SFR and the incidence of infection-related complications between IPCP and FUAS combined with RIRS, both of which were superior to T-RIRS. For lower renal caliceal stones, FUAS has a higher SFR compared to IPCP

The effects of lotus-fish co-culture on the gut microbiome of Hefang crucian carp (Carassis auratus)

Gut microbiome plays an important role in host's development and reproduction. Lotus-fish co-culture (LFC) is a popular integrated agriculture–aquaculture farming system in China. However, there is still a relative dearth of information on how changes of aquaculture modes will affect the fish gut microbiome. In the present study, metagenomic sequencing was used to compare gut bacteria of the hybrid fish Hefang crucian carp (Carassius cuuieri ♀ × C. auratus var. red ♂) cultured in LFC and intensive pond culture (IPC) systems. The results indicated that aquaculture modes exerted great influences on the fish gut bacterial community. A significantly higher gut bacterial diversity was found in LFC than that in IPC (P < 0.05). The relative abundances of Actinobacteria and Chloroflexi were apparently higher in LFC than those in IPC, whereas Planctomycetota, Firmicutes, and Verrucomicrobia showed opposite patterns. Besides, gut bacterial metabolic potentials involved in energy metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, amino acid metabolism, environmental information processing, and cellular processes were significantly increased in LFC compared to those in IPC. On the contrary, the bacterial functional potentials related to nucleotide metabolism, DNA mismatch repair, as well as homologous recombination were significantly stimulated in the IPC system. Source‐tracking analysis suggested that fish gut bacterial community in IPC was originated mainly from water sources, whereas the gut bacterial community in LFC was originated from more unknown sources and soil sources. Our results provided new insight into the influence of aquaculture modes on the microbial community diversity and functionality in aquatic animals and highlighted the importance of environment microbiome in reshaping the gut microbes
