The effect of a non-verbal redirection on out-of-seat behavior in a subject diagnosed as ADHD and MR
This was a single subject study with the A-B-A-B across settings withdrawal design. This design was selected because the subject has comorbidity issues, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Mental Retardation (MR). This researcher implemented the A-B-A-B design and collected data during all four phases. The subject was a eight year old Hispanic female diagnosed as ADHD and mild MR. ADHD is characterized by impulsivity, lack of ability to focus attention, and hyperactivity. MR is characterized by below average intellectual functioning which significantly limits functioning in at least two skill areas
Response of macroarthropod assemblages to the loss of hemlock (Tsuga canadensis), a foundation species
In eastern North American forests, eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) is a foundation species. As hemlock is lost from forests due to the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (Adelges tsugae) and preemptive salvage logging, the structure of assemblages of species associated with hemlock is expected to change. We manipulated hemlock canopy structure at hectare scales to investigate the effects of hemlock death on assemblages of ants, beetles, and spiders in a New England forest. Relative to reference hemlock stands, both in situ death of hemlock and logging and removal of hemlock altered composition and diversity of beetles and spiders, and logging increased the species richness and evenness of ant assemblages. Species composition of ant assemblages in disturbed habitats was non-random relative to the regional species pool, but we found no evidence that interspecific competition shaped the structure of ant, beetle, or spider assemblages, in either manipulated or intact forest stands. Environmental filtering by hemlock appears to maintain low levels of species richness and evenness in forest stands, suggesting that the loss of hemlock due to the hemlock woolly adelgid or human activities will not likely lead to extirpations of ant, beetle, or spider species at local scales

The Role of Environment in the Mass-Metallicity Relation
Using a sample of 57,377 star-forming galaxies drawn from the Sloan Digital
Sky Survey, we study the relationship between gas-phase oxygen abundance and
environment in the local Universe. We find that there is a strong relationship
between metallicity and environment such that more metal-rich galaxies favor
regions of higher overdensity. Furthermore, this metallicity-density relation
is comparable in strength to the color-density relation along the blue cloud.
After removing the mean dependence of environment on color and luminosity, we
find a significant residual trend between metallicity and environment that is
largely driven by galaxies in high-density regions, such as groups and
clusters. We discuss the potential source of this relationship between
metallicity and local galaxy density in the context of feedback models, with
special attention paid to quantifying the impact of environment on the scatter
in the mass-metallicity relation. We find that environment is a non-negligible
source of scatter in this fundamental relation, with > 15% of the measured

Effects of Experimental Sarcocystis neurona
Sarcocystis neurona is the most common cause of Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM), affecting 0.5–1% horses in the United States during their lifetimes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the equine immune responses in an experimentally induced Sarcocystis neurona infection model. Neurologic parameters were recorded prior to and throughout the 70-day study by blinded investigators. Recombinant SnSAG1 ELISA for serum and CSF were used to confirm and track disease progression. All experimentally infected horses displayed neurologic signs after infection. Neutrophils, monocytes, and lymphocytes from infected horses displayed significantly delayed apoptosis at some time points. Cell proliferation was significantly increased in S. neurona-infected horses when stimulated nonspecifically with PMA/I but significantly decreased when stimulated with S. neurona compared to controls. Collectively, our results suggest that horses experimentally infected with S. neurona manifest impaired antigen specific response to S. neurona, which could be a function of altered antigen presentation, lack of antigen recognition, or both
Effect of change in the CG CAHPS survey instrument recall period on patient experience scores on healthcare utilization
Standardized patient experience survey instruments play an important role in informing healthcare quality and process improvement. However, any changes in standardized instruments can impact the interpretation, trending, and analysis of patient reported data. This study investigates how the change in Clinician and Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CG CAHPS) survey recall period, from 12- to 6-months, can impact the accuracy and quality of patient experience data. This study used primary survey data on patient experience collected in 2016. Analyses included tests of proportion and t-tests for a comparison of: 1) experience ratings, and 2) administrative data to corroborate how accurately respondents report the number of visits received within the recall period. The findings indicated that respondents, on average, underestimated their usage of care based on a 12-month recall period, apart from those who reported just one visit. A shorter 6-month recall period resulted in higher accuracy in reporting the number of actual visits that occurred. Furthermore, experiential measures showed consistently higher scores across measures for Provider Communications, Staff Communications, Timely Access to Care, and Care Coordination for a 6-month recall period compared to a 12-month period. This study showed that it would be difficult to compare CG CAHPS Version 2.0 to Version 3.0 due to recall differences in experiential measures. Given that shorter recall periods tend to be associated with higher CG CAHPS ratings, healthcare stakeholders should consider bias introduced by changes of recall periods in survey instruments.

The Diffusion of IT in Higher Education: Publishing Productivity of Academic Life Scientists
This study investigates widening access to the Internet and other advancements in IT across institutions of higher education and how these advances have affected the publishing productivity of academic life scientists. What distinguishes this study is that institutional IT access is measured across a wide range of institutions and multiple IT indicators are considered: 1) the adoption of BITNET; 2) the registration of domain names (DNS); 3) the availability of the electronic journal database, JSTOR; and 4) the availability of electronic library resources. Data on life scientists are drawn from the 1983, 1995, 2001, and 2003 Survey of Doctorate Recipients. Universities and colleges are classified into several tiers, depending upon research intensity. Three hypotheses are tested: 1) IT enhances the careers of faculty, independent of tier; 2) IT improves the careers of faculty at lower-tiered relative to higher-tiered institutions; and 3) within tier, the IT revolution increases women’s publication rates relative to their male counterparts.
