Production Of Recombinant Urease For Screening Of Helicobacter Pylori Infection

    Get PDF
Helicobacter pylori establishes infection inside human stomach lining and causing duodenal diseases, such as peptic ulcer and potentially into gastric cancer. The invasive diagnostic methods require unpleasant endoscopic procedure for H. pylori detection. Preferably, the noninvasive diagnostic methods would make suspected patients less stressful to procedure for H. pylori detection. The two most preferable noninvasive diagnostic methods are antibody detection (serology) and antigen detection (from fecal) with their own advantages and drawbacks.

The purpose of this study is to identify the perception of sight-singing among vocal students at UiTM, Shah Alam. This study involved students from Diploma, Degree Education, Degree Performance, and Degree Composition. Objectives of this study were: I) to find out the understanding of sight-singing among vocal students, 2) to investigate the weaknesses of vocal students in sight-singing and 3) To explore ways to improve sight-singing skills among vocal students. The data was collected through questionnaire. As a result, many vocal students at Faculty of Music, Shah Alam did not realize the benefits of sight-singing towards their lessons. The problems of this matter also has been obtained through the questionnaire where they were lack of exercise, did not get formal class for sight-singing, and most of them learnt their new piece by listening to the recordings rather than by sight-singing. There are several ways I suggest to students to improve their sight-singing skill such as starting their vocal class with sight singing. Lecturers can give them simple melodies to help them to get use to sight-singing, involve in ensemble such as choir, they must have sight-singing classes with same importance level such as aural, music theory, and principal class, etc

The Susceptibility of Aphids, Aphis gossypii Glover to Lauric Acid Based Natural Pesticide

    Get PDF
The susceptibility of aphids to lauric acid, a type of middle-chain fatty acids, based pesticide formulation was investigated. The insecticidal properties of lauric acid based pesticide formulation against aphids were evaluated through the three main routes of exposure: topical application, leaf-dipping (ingestion) and inhalation. Surface tension dependent aphids toxicity was also investigated by measuring the surface tension value of each formulation prepared. The relationship of surface tension and formulation toxicity was then observed on aphid tested. The obtained results indicate that all tested formulations had insecticidal activity against tested aphids depending on exposure method and lauric acid concentration. The topical application method recorded 100% mortality rates compared to the other two methods. With topical application method, most of the aphids died soon after treatment. Toxicity symptoms from lauric acid to aphids included unusual abdominal contractions which caused quick loss of coordination and decreased activity, and finally dehydration and necrosis within 24 hours. Results from surface tension study revealed close connection between toxicity and surface tension. This might lead to the conclusion that toxicity was possibly related to aphid suffocation in the highly wettable solution. Results from this research also demonstrated that there were possibility that lauric acid do not only kill aphids by suffocation, but also through change of cuticle and cell permeability and desiccation that lead to speedy death due to the chemical nature of lauric acid. Overall, the results recommend that lauric acid based pesticide formulation has both physical and chemical mode of action on aphids

Hydrazides with the general formula R-CO-NHNH2, have received a lot of attention due to their applications in biological, organic synthesis and analytical chemistry fields. The preparation of fatty hydrazides from palm oil has been developed in this research. Fatty hydrazides (FH) and fatty phenyl hydrazides (FPH) were successfully synthesized from palm oil as a raw material by one-step lipase catalyzed reaction. FTIR and CHN elemental analyses were carried out to determine the presence of the hydrazides in the products. The method offers several advantages such as renewable and abundant of raw materials, simple reaction procedure and high yield of products. The application of the products as a reagent was carried out based on the ability of the FH and FPH to form complexes with some metal ions. FH was successfully used as an extractant for extraction and separation of copper(II). The separation of Cu(II) is possible from other metal ions such as Co(II), Cr(VI), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Fe(III) at pH 5.5-6.5. A preconcentration method was proposed for the determination of Cu(II) in water samples. It was shown that the extraction from aqueous phase containing Cu(II) with organic phase containing FH and then stripping the organic phase with 2 M of HCl solution give a solution of Cu(II) 10 fold in concentrations. FH was also successfully used as an extractant for extraction and separation of Mo(VI). This metal successfully separated from other metal ions such as Ni(II), Co(II), Al(III), Fe(III) and Mn(II). Quantitative stripping of Mo(VI) ion from the organic phase can be carried out using 2 M ammonium hydroxide. This proposed method was applied for the recovery of Mo(VI) from synthetic mixture and the results showed that more than 90% recovery of Mo(VI) is achieved and the metal ion solution is free from the impurities. FH and FPH were also evaluated as an extractant for extraction and separation of gold(III) from chloride media. This metal was extracted quantitatively from hydrochloric media at 0.001-0.1 M into the organic phase. Gold(III) was successfully separated from Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Co(II) and Fe(III) by using FH or FPH. Quantitative stripping of gold(III) from the organic phase can be carried out using 2.0 M thiourea in 1.0 M HCl solution. The extraction and separation of gold(III) by FH or FPH was applied to separate and recover pure gold(III) from synthetic mixtures. FPH synthesized from palm olein was also successfully used as a new reagent for the determination of V(V) by spetrophotometric method. The method is based on the colored complex of vanadium(V)-FPH. The metal ion forms dark brown colored complex which has an absorption maximum at 405 nm. Beer’s law is valid over the concentration range of 0.2-20 mg/L and the limit of detection of this method is 0.01 mg/L. The characteristics of this developed method are simple, good selectivity, high sensitivity and rapid

This paper is basically a study that determines the need to have a constitutional reform in order to establish an independent Judicial Nomination Commission in Malaysia. As stated in Chapter One, this study is conducted due to the great criticisms leveled against the present judiciary as well as the judicial appointment system. Therefore, the need to establish the independent Judicial Nomination Commission is measured by analyzing whether or not the present judiciary as well as the judicial appointment system provided by Article 122B of the Federal Constitution is in fact muddled with problems. All the quandaries have been laid down in Chapter Two of this paper and it is submitted that the judiciary and the present system of judicial appointments are cluttered with problems that range from politicized judicial appointment, non credible judges, backlog cases and even extends to great failure to write judgments and deferred. Chapter Three examines the models of independent judicial appointment commission of other countries such as the Judicial Appointments Commission of England and Wales, Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission, Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland and South African Judicial Service Commission while the feasibility of adopting such models are concluded in Chapter Four of the paper. It is submitted that there is none of the models that can be adopted as a whole. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the proposed independent Judicial Nomination Commission, it is observed that it needs to be a mixture of the featured examined models

Psychological Resilience of Employees in Adversity Quotient: Malaysian Perspective in Facing Challenges

    Get PDF
Psychological resilience is the ability to manage psychologically or emotionally with a catastrophe or to swiftly recover to pre-crisis position. Adversity is one of the most important abilities for psychological resilience. Workers in the twenty-first century must be able to deal with adversity in a challenging work environment, especially during a pandemic. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of adversity quotient among Malaysian employees during the pandemic period. Different employees' ability adversity quotients have also been compared in terms of gender, race, and age. This study's design is a cross-sectional survey with 585 respondents from all around Malaysia selected using a convenient sampling technique. A modified version of Dr. Paul G. Stoltz's Adversity Response Profile was employed as instrument in this study. The data was then analysed with the sum, median, mean, standard deviation, independent-sample t-test, and logistic regression. The findings of the study show that the majority of employees have a high adversity quotient score. In terms of gender, men employees tend to score higher than female employees. Employees aged 50 and over excel those aged 26 and below. However, the adversity quotient score for employees of different races is not significantly different. Employers should eventually take serious concern by implementing the appropriate intervention programme or policy aimed at potential employees in order to overcome their shortcoming in the adversity quotient and, more importantly, to enhance the employee's ability to face challenges in order to drive the company's mission and vision

Remedies of specific performance for land contracts: Legal development

    Get PDF
This paper discusses the relief of specific performance (SP) and deals with types and nature of contracts that may be ordered by the court to be specifically performed and those that cannot be specifically performed. Specifically, this paper analyses the circumstances in which the courts decide to grant SP and not to grant SP for land contract. Under the law the remedy of SP is discretionary, and such discretion is to be exercised according to well established principles. Employing doctrinal legal research, this study analyses the relevant provisions under the Specific Relief Act 1950 and identifies how the courts applied the provisions to case laws thus developing a precedent on SP for immoveable property. It is found out that the right to sue for specific performance in equity is quite distinct from a cause of action at common law. Specific performance is granted when there are circumstances justifying it. The grant of SP is always subject to conditions. SP is said to be the best remedy for breach of contract for immoveable property. For example, land is normally deemed by the law to have a special value, the loss of which may not be adequately measured or compensated by damages or money (S 11(2) of the Act) unless and until the contrary is performed. All the above must be read subject to section 20 of the same Act that provides for circumstances where SP cannot be granted
