Students’ Equation Understanding and Solving in Iran
The purpose of the present article is to investigate how 15 year old Iranian students interpret the concept of equation, its solution, and studying the relation between the students’ equation understanding and solving. Data from two equation-solving exercises are reported. Data analysis shows that there is a significant relationship between understanding and solving equation. The results indicate that students’ understanding of equation has, basically, been shaped by their experiences in arithmetic and students usually have not any perception of equations and real world problems. Moreover, the study shows that students rarely paid any attention to the equality sign and the use of operators in both sides of the equation
The process of evaluation is essentially the process of determining the realization of the educational
goals in real terms through curriculum and education and represents the changes that occur in human behavior.
Therefore, it is necessary that at the end of each training course (such as training classes, workshops, and
training seminars), the teacher or evaluators, evaluate the implemented training program. In the curriculum
approaches, learning the problem-solving ability is the ultimate goal of mathematics education. This skill requires
empowering teachers with problem solving skills as one of the optimal ways to use capacities and to achieve
educational goals. Therefore, the main goal of this study was to examine the problem-based mathematics
teaching according to the Krikpatrick's model on problem-solving performance of mathematics teachers. The
research design was of a pretest-posttest type with a control group. Using simple random sampling method, 100
male and female mathematics teachers, teaching mathematics at the middle school, were selected from Rabat
Karim city, Tehran province. In pre-test and post-test of the traditional teaching and problem-solving based
teaching in mathematics, data were collected through mathematical problem-solving performance test and
Kirkpatrick's four-level questionnaire. Using SPSS software and R software, the results showed a significant
difference between the scores of problem-solving performances between the two groups of control and
experiment after the training, and through the equations, we showed that each level of the Kirkpatrick's model
has a positive effect on the post-test scores of mathematics teachers.
The role of problem solving method on the improvement of mathematical learning
In history of education, problem solving is one of the important educational goals and teachers or parents have intended that their students have capacity of problem solving. In present research, it is tried that study the problem solving method for mathematical learning. This research is implemented via quasi-experimental method on 49 boy students at high school. The results of Leven test and T-test indicated that problem solving method has more effective on the improvement of mathematical learning than traditional instruction method. Therefore it seems that teachers of mathematics must apply the problem solving method in educational systems till students became self-efficiency in mathematical problem solving
Students' Conception about the Relation of Mathematics to Real-Life
Present paper has studied the conceptions of high school students about mathematical relations to the real life in the three strands; mathematics, experimental science and humanities. Regard to this research, research methodology was survey. Consequently 780 girl high school students are chosen via multi-steps cluster sampling method randomly. Questionnaire forms are applied in four parts as research instrumentation. Data are analyzed thereby descriptive and inferential statistics for further analysis as a result of the process that is demonstrated via one-sample sign test in order to collect and analyze of students' responses regard to self-conception about mathematics in real-life. Accord to the findings and results, it seems that students believed that the generalization of mathematics to the real life is surprisingly insufficiency. These views and responses are indicated that it necessaries to modify the textbooks and curriculums in terms of mathematics development and students' needs in real-life. Also teachers have to spend the special courses for this important
Integral is the base of pure and applied mathematics for all students of science, especially
engineering, which some of their lessons are dependent to it directly or indirectly. In fact, Integral is an
indisputable concept for solve practical and executive problems of students, so it is important to pay
attention to it. On the other hand, experiences of teaching Integral have indicated that most students have
weakness in solve Integral problems. Through case study, an exam has been conducted in the form of six
problems on six good experienced students in order to study the students' behaviors in coping with the
integral problems and also to reach a proposed method for teaching the integral concept, in which each
question has in turn two parts. The analysis of their responses and discussion with them have led some
light on more details about the integral, how to teach it and also the problems as a result of the teaching
method and the problems to which they would encounter, so that by their citation, an appropriate teaching
method could be presented in order to maximally conceptualize the integral in students. On the other
hand, these studies reveal that in order to solve the integral-related problems, most students first refer to
the initial function approach and try to solve the problem by the direct method rather than spending their
time learning conceptually and meaningfully. But those students who have used Riemann concept and
infinite collection in solve Integral problems were successful in compare to others.

The purpose of this study is to apply the Attribute Hierarchy Method (AHM) in the cognitive domains of
algebraic expressions to find cognitive inferences about students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. Initially,
cognitive content techniques were developed to determine the knowledge and skills needed to solve
mathematical assignments. Then, items were written specifically to assess skills in cognitive models. Finally,
confirmatory psychometric analyses were used to evaluate students' response information by estimating the
proportionality of the data model, attribute probabilities to report the diagnostic score and attribute validity. The
first domain is concerned with the cognition and diagnosis of general polynomials and algebraic expressions and
encompasses other areas. Therefore, the focus is on the precise definition of the basic concepts of the
recognition of polynomials such as the polynomials and the number of very important terms and similar
monomials and incorrect learning of algebra. Nevertheless, in the second domain, which focuses on
simplification and related concepts, less emphasis has been placed on the seventh to ninth grades. The defect in
the expression and practice of this field leads to weakness in solving and analyzing relevant mathematical
problems. The third domain is related to the second domain and directly to the first domain. Factorization and
distributive properties are often used without considering the rules of simplification by students. The weakness
associated with the second domain causes the students not to be able to easily analyze and solve the problem in
This study is an adjunct to a research effort focused on a mathematical curricular innovation in four non-governmental schools in Tehran, Iran. This study queried balanced, random sample of 100 educational personnel from the schools concerning dynamic capabilities associated with change (sensing opportunities, seizing opportunities, and reconfiguring assets) and issues surrounding organizational inertia (finding resources, confronting path dependency in change, and establishing new processes). Additional data collected described the personnel’s perceptions about innovations and new processes instituted in their schools. Student performance data from the prior year’s final mathematical examination were also gathered. The data describe a portion of the educational change potential of the schools, including improved student achievement. The variables informed by all of the data were evaluated by multivariate methods. The findings showed that beliefs about dynamic capabilities had a significant positive impact on educational performance and that educational performance had a positive impact on the final mathematical exam scores. The results also indicate that the organizational inertia of the schools had a significant negative impact on the educational performance of the schools. Conclusions were formed based on the analysis of the defining factors of the variables mentioned above and recommendations given for implementing change are proposed.
