Deterministic physical systems under uncertain initial conditions: the case of maximum entropy applied to projectile motion

The kinematics and dynamics of deterministic physical systems have been a foundation of our understanding of the world since Galileo and Newton. For real systems, however, uncertainty is largely present via external forces such as friction or lack of precise knowledge about the initial conditions of the system. In this work we focus in the latter case and describe the use of inference methodologies in solving the statistical properties of classical systems subject to uncertain initial conditions. In particular we describe the application of the formalism of Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) inference to the problem of projectile motion given information about the average horizontal range over many realizations. By using MaxEnt we can invert the problem and use the provided information on the average range to reduce the original uncertainty in the initial conditions, while also achieving additional insights based on the shape of the posterior probabilities for the initial conditions probabilities and the projectile path distribution itself. The wide applicability of this procedure, as well as its ease of use, reveals a useful tool by which to revisit a large number of physics problems, from classrooms to frontier research

Systems of Markov type functions: normality and convergence of Hermite-Padé approximants

La memoria y sus representaciones en Spinoza

This paper studies the concept of memory as understood in Spinoza’s body of work, focusing mainly on E 2P18. The main features of memory’s functioning are explained across three conceptual axes: affectio, vestigium and concatenation. These shape Spinoza’s own argumentation in the cited proposition and also recall Aristotle’s theory on memory’s function and functioning. The link between both theories helps transversely to elucidate Spinoza’s position regarding the problem of the identity of the individual (beyond movement-rest proportionality).El texto estudia el concepto de memoria desde el cuerpo filosófico de Spinoza, centrándose mayormente en E 2P18. Se explican las características principales del funcionamiento de la memoria según tres ejes conceptuales: affectio, vestigium y concatenatio, que son los que dan forma a la argumentación misma del autor en la proposición mencionada, y que además remiten a la teoría propia de Aristóteles sobre la función y el funcionamiento de la memoria. Se utiliza esa relación entre ambas teorías para ir esclareciendo transversalmente la posición de Spinoza con respecto al problema de la identidad del individuo (más allá de la proporción movimiento-reposo)

On the convergence of type I Hermite-Pade approximants

Fade approximation has two natural extensions to vector rational approximation through the so-called type I and type II Hermite-Pade approximants. The convergence properties of type II Hermite-Pade approximants have been studied. For such approximants Markov and Stieltjes type theorems are available. To the present, such results have not been obtained for type I approximants. In this paper, we provide Markov and Stieltjes type theorems on the convergence of type I Hermite-Pade approximants for Nikishin systems of functions.Both authors were partially supported by research grant MTM2012-36372-C03-01 of Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Spain

Configurational density of states and melting of simple solids

We analyze the behavior of the microcanonical and canonical caloric curves for a piecewise model of the configurational density of states of simple solids, in the context of melting from the superheated state, as realized numerically in the Z-method via atomistic molecular dynamics. A first-order phase transition with metastable regions is reproduced by the model, being therefore useful to describe aspects of the melting transition. Within this model, transcendental equations connecting the superheating limit, the melting point, and the specific heat of each phase are presented and numerically solved. Our results suggest that the essential elements of the microcanonical Z curves can be extracted from simple modeling of the configurational density of states

Evaluación de los riesgos de las condiciones de trabajo en el área productiva de la Empresa Agropecuaria de Exportaciones, S.A. (AGROEXPORT, S.A.), en el Municipio de Matagalpa, Departamento de Matagalpa durante el segundo semestre del año 2016

En la Presente Investigación se evaluó el proceso de producción de acopio de frijoles para detectar todas las condiciones que de una u otra circunstancias son agentes causantes de riesgos hacia los trabajadores; tomando como referencia la Ley No 618. Ley de Higiene y Seguridad Laboral, debido a esto se estudió la evaluación de los riesgos de las condiciones de trabajo en el área productiva de la empresa de acopio Empresa Agropecuaria de Exportaciones, S.A. (AGROEXPORT, S.A.), en el municipio de Matagalpa durante el segundo semestre del año 2016, con el propósito de evaluar cada estación de trabajo del proceso de producción a fin de determinar los riesgos presente en la empresa y analizar que factor los origina. Para la evaluación de la primera subvariable: determinación de las condiciones de trabajo (Ver Anexo No 1. Operacionalizacion de variables) se dedujo que los principales resultados fueron: • La mayoría de las áreas de trabajo dentro del proceso presentan niveles de iluminación distintas; y que las que sobrepasen el nivel máximo permitido por la Ley es por la intervención de gran cantidad de luz natural. • El nivel de ruido para el área de máquinas por medio del análisis a través del sonómetro fue de: 109.86 dB a lo que se reglamenta el uso de tapones u orejeras, pero la empresa regula el uso de estos EPP. • La temperatura en las distintas estaciones de trabajo a pesar de que en ocasiones se torne fatigante, los trabajadores pueden desarrollar las tareas normalmente; la temperatura más alta registrada durante diferentes horas del día fue de 25.97°C en la recepción de materia prima durante el mediodía. A cerca de la valoración y funcionalidad de la comisión mixta y la participación de los trabajadores en medidas de prevención y protección contra accidentes se determinó: • Los trabajadores no cuentan con participación en capacitaciones de higiene y seguridad. • Existe la Comisión Mixta, pero no funciona según lo establecido en la Ley 618. • No se supervisa en las tareas de los trabajadores, para la detección temprana de condiciones inseguras y corrección de actos inseguros. De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos se brindan una serie de recomendaciones para contrarrestar las conclusiones negativas y mejorar aquellas que pueden en un futuro ser causante de accidentes. Es importante la implementación y el cumplimiento de las normativas establecidas por la Ley No 618 en la empresa debido a que permite evitar los accidentes más comunes que se producen en el trabajo y así crear condiciones de trabajo seguras resguardando así la vida de cada uno de los colaboradores de la empres

This article analyzes the Cineclub section of a textbook called Salud y Adolescencia in relation to the contents developed in it, as well as the contents included in some other related textbooks. This is also done resorting to academic papers which deal with the themes of health and adolescence. The notion of “stories†is useful to consider biographical value, axiomatics and ideologemes which give cohesion to the textbook. Some other films are used to question some isotopies identified in films suggested in the Cineclub section of the textbook previously mentioned.Este artículo analiza la sección Cineclub de un manual escolar denominado Salud y Adolescencia en relación con los contenidos del mismo manual, con los de otros manuales similares y con publicaciones académicas sobre el mismo tópico que da nombre al manual.
