6.3 gC.m'2.an ).
Mirabel bog (St. Lawrence lowlands, southern Quebec) was studied with the aim to specify
the influences exerted by the different autogenic and allogenic parameters on postglacial
carbon accumulation. (1) Regional vegetation dynamics reveal a general climatic control,
locally modified by the palaeogeographical context, physiography and ecological processes.
(2) The postglacial history of the regional climate was reconstructed by the modem
analogues method, constrained by the water level fluctuations of Lac Hertel (Mont St-
Hilaire). Obtained results provide evidence for an important climate improvement between
13 000 and 11 000 cal. BP, a thermal optimum around 8000 cal. BP and two dry periods
(10000-6500 and 5000-3000 cal. BP). (3) Postglacial internal dynamics were
independently reconstmcted in three dimensions by the multidisciplinary analysis of seven
profiles. They show similar plant successions, conforming to the terrestrialisation model but
were asynchronous. They moreover attest the occurrence of very humid conditions prior to
6700 cal. BP, followed by numerous asynchronous fluctuations throughout the site. By
contrast, carbon accumulation presents similar trends in all proiïles, characterised by high
accumulation rates prior to 6200 cal. BP (averages from 7.1 to 19.1 gC.m .year ) and low
rates since this date (averages from 2.7 to 6.3 gC.m'2.year-l). (4) The different postglacial
conditions of peatland development arc coirfronted. Carbon accumulation appears to have
been essentially controlled by the interplay between physiography (initial minerotrophic
supply) and autogenic processes, which progressively isolated the peat-forming vegetation
from groundwater. Notably, neither climate nor fire seem to have played a significant role
Differential between Protein and mRNA Expression of CCR7 and SSTR5 Receptors in Crohn's Disease Patients
Crohn's disease (CD) is a multifactorial chronic inflammatory bowel disease of unknown cause. The aim of the present study was to explore if mRNA over-expression of SSTR5 and CCR7 found in CD patients could be correlated to respective protein expression. When compared to healthy donors, SSTR5 was over-expressed 417 ± 71 times in CD peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Flow cytometry experiments showed no correlation between mRNA and protein expression for SSTR5 in PBMCs. In an attempt to find a reason of such a high mRNA expression, SSTR5 present on CD PBMCs were tested and found as biologically active as on healthy cells. In biopsies of CD intestinal tissue, SSTR5 was not over-expressed but CCR7, unchanged in PBMCs, was over-expressed by 10 ± 3 times in the lamina propria. Confocal microscopy showed a good correlation of CCR7 mRNA and protein expression in CD intestinal biopsies. Our data emphasize flow and image cytometry as impossible to circumvent in complement to molecular biology so to avoid false interpretation on receptor expressions. Once confirmed by further large-scale studies, our preliminary results suggest a role for SSTR5 and CCR7 in CD pathogenesis
Bellis prostrata Pomel (Asteraceae), a new species for Morocco
Investigations conducted in temporary
wetlands of the coastal Meseta of W Morocco
(Benslimane region) lead to the discovery of
Bellis prostrata in a small endoreic temporary
pool (ca. 1 ha) of the quartzitic-limestone

Interest of the Characeae as bioindicators of water quality: the case of wetlands in Numidia (NE Algeria)
Characeae surveys and water physico-chemical studies have been performed during four years (2007-2011) on 41 wetlands of Numidia (NE Algeria). Among the 12 species inventoried in the region, four are rare in North Africa and one, Nitella batrachosperma, is new for Algeria. Comparison between Characeae communities and phosphate contents shows that (1) Characeae have nearly disappeared from habitats that contain high levels of orthophosphates (> 780 μg.l-1), (2) three species of Chara (C. globularis, C. gymnophylla and C. vulgaris) characterize medium-polluted habitats (213-780 μg.l-1), where they are often present as discontinuous populations, and (3) the Nitella (N. opaca and N. translucens) are good indicators of low water pollution ( 780 μg.l-1), (2) trois espèces de Chara (C. globularis, C. gymnophylla et C. vulgaris) caractérisent les milieux moyennement pollués (213-780 μg.l-1) où elles sont souvent présentes sous forme de populations discontinues et (3) les Nitella (N. opaca et N. translucens) sont de bons indicateurs de faible pollution de l’eau (< 70 μg.l-1).
The travertine system of the Serre de Montdenier (alt. 1200 m) presents formations containing plant macroremains (plant imprints and charcoals) and an alkaline minerotrophic peatland (fen). The analysis of travertine sequences dated by U/Th and 14C allowed us to reconstruct the composition and the structure of the local ligneous flora at the beginning of the Holocene. The landscape of the Mouresse valley was then formed by a mosaic of mesophilous deciduous oak forests, of open zones with Amelanchier ovalis and Berberis vulgaris, and of riparian forests with Alnus glutinosa, Salix spp. and Vitis vinifera subsp. sylvestris. All these species, excepted Quercus pubescens, have disappeared from the local vegetation, presently characterized by matorrals of Buxus sempervirens and afforestations of Pinus nigra subsp. nigra. The fen covering the higher part of the travertine system developed ca. 400 years ago, probably as a result of changes in the hydrology of the higher part of the Mouresse stream. Pollen data reveal a long transport and an asylvatic landscape prior to the RTM reforestation of the end of the 19th century
