Color Decoherence in In-Medium QCD Cascades
The talk, based on \cite{LN10}, analyzes the consequences of the assumption
that the effects of quantum coherence and the resulting angular ordering in QCD
cascades are disrupted within the hot fireball created in ultrarelativistic
heavy ion collisions.Comment: Presented at Hard Probes 2010, Eilat, Israe
Mean Field Dynamics in Non-Abelian Plasmas from Classical Transport Theory
Based on classical transport theory, we present a general set of covariant
equations describing the dynamics of mean fields and their statistical
fluctuations in a non-Abelian plasma in or out-of-equilibrium. A procedure to
obtain the collision integrals for the Boltzmann equation from the microscopic
theory is described. As an application, we study a hot non-Abelian plasma close
to equilibrium, where the fluctuations are integrated out explicitly. For soft
fields, and at logarithmic accuracy, we obtain B\"odeker's effective theory.Comment: 4 pages, revtex, no figures. Typo removed, a reference updated,

Color Diffusion and Conductivity in a Quark-Gluon Plasma
Color diffusion is shown to be an important dissipative property of
quark-gluon plasmas that rapidly damps collective color modes. We derive the
characteristic color relaxation time scale, , showing its sensitivity to the ratio of the static color
electric and magnetic screening masses. This leads to a surprisingly small
color conductivity, , which in fact vanishes
in the semi-classical (1-loop) limit.Comment: 11 pages, Columbia University Preprint CU-TP-59
Heavy Quark Radiative Energy Loss - Applications to RHIC
Heavy quark energy loss in a hot QCD plasma is computed taking into account
the competing effects due to suppression of zeroth order gluon radiation bellow
the plasma frequency and the enhancement of gluon radiation due to transition
energy loss and medium induced Bremsstrahlung. Heavy quark medium induced
radiative energy loss is derived to all orders in opacity, .
Numerical evaluation of the energy loss suggest small suppression of high
charm quarks, and therefore provide a possible explanation for the
null effects observed by PHENIX in the prompt electron spectrum in as
and 200 AGeV.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, Contributed to 17th International Conference on

Local equilibrium of the quark-gluon plasma
Within kinetic theory, we look for local equilibrium configurations of the
quark-gluon plasma by maximizing the local entropy. We use the well-established
transport equations in the Vlasov limit, supplemented with the Waldmann-Snider
collision terms. Two different classes of local equilibrium solutions are
found. The first one corresponds to the configurations that comply with the
so-called collisional invariants. The second one is given by the distribution
functions that cancel the collision terms, representing the most probable
binary interactions with soft gluon exchange in the t-channel. The two sets of
solutions agree with each other if we go beyond these dominant processes and
take into account subleading quark-antiquark annihilation/creation and gluon
number non-conserving processes. The local equilibrium state appears to be
colorful, as the color charges are not locally neutralized. Properties of such
an equilibrium state are analyzed. In particular, the related hydrodynamic
equations of a colorful fluid are derived. Possible neutralization processes
are also briefly discussed.Comment: 20 pages; minor changes, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Ultrasoft Amplitudes in Hot QCD
By using the Boltzmann equation describing the relaxation of colour
excitations in the QCD plasma, we obtain effective amplitudes for the ultrasoft
colour fields carrying momenta of order . These amplitudes are of the
same order in as the hard thermal loops (HTL), which they generalize by
including the effects of the collisions among the hard particles. The ultrasoft
amplitudes share many of the remarkable properties of the HTL's: they are gauge
invariant, obey simple Ward identities, and, in the static limit, reduce to the
usual Debye mass for the electric fields. However, unlike the HTL's, which
correspond effectively to one-loop diagrams, the ultrasoft amplitudes resum an
infinite number of diagrams of the bare perturbation theory. By solving the
linearized Boltzmann equation, we obtain a formula for the colour conductivity
which accounts for the contributions of the hard and soft modes beyond the
leading logarithmic approximation.Comment: 38 pages, 10 figures, LaTeX. An extension of the previous results is
included (in Sec. 4.2); also, some minor modifications here and there. Final
version, to appear in Nucl. Phys.
Where is the charm quark energy loss at RHIC?
Heavy quark energy loss in a hot QCD plasma is computed taking into account
the competing effects due to suppression of zeroth order gluon radiation below
the plasma frequency and the enhancement of gluon radiation due to first order
medium induced Bremsstrahlung.
The results suggest a surprising degree of cancellation between the two
medium effects for charm quarks and provides a possible explanation for the
null effect observed by PHENIX in the prompt electron spectrum in Au+Au at
130 AGeV.Comment: 9 pages with 3 ps figure
Decoherence and energy loss in QCD cascades in nuclear collisions
The medium modifications in the properties of QCD cascades are considered. In
particular, the changes in the intrajet rapidity distributions due to
medium-induced decoherence, collisional losses of cascade gluons and those of
final prehadrons are analyzed
