    Recent Developments in Magnetic Sensing

    No full text
Measurement systems must have some properties such as sensitivity, accuracy, stability and low power consumption. New sensor types are continuously being developed according to new needs of applications besides improving measurement systems. In this study, recently developed magnetic sensors are searched. Fundamentals of new magnetic sensor types, their advantages and application areas are presented and compared in a table to form a guide for magnetic sensor users

With the emergence of technology, new innovative functionalities are developed and implemented in automobiles. In these functionalities, software plays an ever important role. For safety and performance reasons, Software reliability has become of critical importance, especially to the autonomous car, or the driverless car. The research project reported in this paper studies software reliability in the context of the driverless car developed by the French institute for the energy transition VEDECOM.The work proposed paves the way for the design of a method for real time embedded software reliability measurement

The coexistence of newly diagnosed acromegaly with primary empty sella: More frequent than expected?

© 2022 Elsevier LtdObjective: We investigated the coexistence of newly diagnosed acromegaly with primary empty sella (ES), which is considered to be a rare association, and the impact of ES on the laboratory, radiological and prognostic status of acromegaly. Design: Acromegaly patients diagnosed and followed-up between 2012 and 2021 were included. Empty sella was defined as the pituitary gland and adenoma filling <50% of the sella turcica on preoperative T1 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Results: 102 acromegalic patients (45 male, 57 female, 45.5 ± 12.8 (range: 20–70 years) were included and data of a median 3 years (range: 0.5–9 years) were presented. ES was detected in 19 (18.6%) patients and 4 had complete and 15 had partial ES. Although not significant, adenoma size and residual adenoma on MRI on postoperative 3rd month, and disease remission at last control were lower in acromegaly with ES than in acromegaly without ES, while the rate of female gender and remission on postoperative 3rd month were higher. While preoperative serum prolactin and nadir GH responses to OGTT were significantly lower in patients with ES, there was no difference in terms of other pituitary hormones among both groups. Conclusion: The present study revealed the coexistence of newly diagnosed acromegaly with primary ES at a rate of nearly 20% which is more frequent than expected and this association is not rare. The presence of ES was not associated with any preoperative/postoperative pituitary hormone levels and remission status, except lower preoperative prolactin and nadir GH responses to OGTT

In this work, the effects of weft yarn (two plied, two plied cotton/PVA, siro core spun, and ring core-spun weft yarn) and fabric structure (plain, twill, and sateen construction) on air and water vapor permeability, vertical wicking height, and moisture management properties of the fabrics were analyzed in detail. The scope of the research was to obtain better performance by producing hollow and microporous structures.</p

The efficacy of cognitive behavioral group therapy in women with obesity antidepressant treatment

Objective: We aimed to investigate the effects of a structured cognitive behavioral group therapy (CBGT) on weight loss, depression, anxiety, body image and self-esteem levels in women with obesity treatment and to show that cognitive behavioral therapy may also be effective in the treatment of obese women receiving antidepressant medication in our study. Methods: Fourteen sessions of CBGT were administered to 28 obese female patients who met inclusion criteria. Measurement and clinical scale application were made before and after the therapy. Six months after the therapy, the patients were asked about their weight by phone call. Sociodemographic Information Form, body mass index (BMI) monitoring, DSM-IV based Structured Clinical Interview, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Short Form-36 (SF-36), and Symptom Check List-90 (SCL-90) were applied to the cases. Results: A statistically significant decrease in patients' weight and body mass index were found after 14 sessions of therapy (p<0,001). Statistically significant difference were found about the BDI (p=0,009), TAI (p=0,020), SCL-90 (p=0,001), SF-36 physical function (p=0.035), SF-36 general health (p=0.004), SF-36 social function (p=0.034) scores between the beginning and the end of the therapy. There was no statistically significant difference between the measurements of BMIs at the end of therapy and at the end of therapy. Conclusion: We can say that the method we applied with the findings obtained works. According to this, CBGT is a suitable treatment method for obese people in controlling BMI, providing psychological well-being and improving quality of life
