DEVELOPMENT OF BANANA FIBERS REINFORCED EPOXYGYPSUM COMPOSITE

    Get PDF
Banana fiber composites are developed from banana fiber of Pisang Abu, epoxy and gypsum. The banana fibers were extracted and dried at 60°C. The composites were test for 30vol% and 40vol% oflong and short fiber to determine the effect offiber length and the optimum fiber content. At 10vol% and 20vol% of gypsum added to the short fiber composite, the mechanical properties of the composite are different. All samples were tested for flexural strength and Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) at the fracture surface. A very high architectural art design pose in the composites will add value and make it more commercialize. Other that diat, lots of applications can be developed from usingbanana fiberreinforce epoxy-gypsum composite. I

Performance-Based Financing, Motivation and Final Output in the Health Sector: Experimental Evidence from the Democratic Republic of Congo

Performance-based financing becomes a common strategy to improve health sector quality. The findings of this paper imply that performance-based financing should take motivational effects and levels of provider capacity into account. Using a field experiment in the Democratic Republic of Congo, we find that financial incentives led to more effort from health workers on rewarded activities, without deterring effort on non-rewarded activities. We also find a shift from intrinsic to extrinsic motivation. Finally, the increased effort by health workers proved unsuccessful and led to a reduction in revenue, suggesting that health workers lacked the capacity to develop appropriate strategies to perform

Financial Incentives are Counterproductive in Non-Profit Sectors: Evidence from a Health Experiment

Financial incentives for service providers are becoming a common strategy to improve service delivery. However, this strategy will only work if demand for the service responds as expected. Using a eld experiment in the Democratic Republic of Congo, we show that introducing a performance-based financing mechanism in the health sector has counterproductive effects because demand is non-standard: despite reduced prices and eased access, demand for health decreased, child health deteriorated, workers' revenue dropped. Ironically, expected perverse effects of incentives on worker behavior were not realized: incentives led to more effort from health workers on rewarded activities without deterring effort on non-rewarded activities, nor inducing significant score manipulation or free-riding. We also find a decline in worker motivation following the removal of the incentives, below what it would have been in the absence of exposure to the incentives. Management tools used in for-pro t sectors are thus inappropriate in non-pro t sectors such as health where user and worker rationalities are specific

Heat Transfer from a Horizontal Cylinder Rotating in Oil

    Get PDF
Measurements of the heat transfer from a horizontal cylinder rotating about its axis have been made with oil as the surrounding fluid to provide an addition to the heat-transfer results for this system heretofore available only for air. The results embrace a Prandtl number range from about 130 to 660, with Reynolds numbers up to 3 x 10(exp 4), and show an increasing dependence of free-convection heat transfer on rotation as the Prandtl number is increased by reducing the oil temperature. Some correlation of this effect, which agrees with the prior results for air, has been achieved. At higher rotative speeds the flow becomes turbulent, the free- convection effect vanishes, and the results with oil can be correlated generally with those for air and with mass-transfer results for even higher Prandtl numbers. For this system, however, the analogy calculations which have successfully related the heat transfer to the friction for pipe flows at high Prandtl numbers fail

Who may say what? Thoughts about objectivity, group ability and permission in dynamic epistemic logic

Many situations involve communication and some kind of restrictions on this communication. This is the case when we think about military information, medical communication, moral norms, games, etc. In some situations, we may have structures to think about and organize the right to communicate in such situations. In the army, for example, such a structure is quite simple and easy to understand: the higher you are in the hierarchy, the more you may know and the less you are allowed to say. Indeed, a general can know any secret information but have no right to reveal it to his soldiers, while a soldier can give any information he wants (and may have to give the information he has) without having the right to access most of the information. As another example, in the medical field, more subtle restrictions prevent a boss from getting one of his workers' medical information, while a doctor may have access to it. Often such structures are presented as an informal and incomplete set of rules, that may be contradictory (and let the justice decide what should be done in case of conflict). But we have no general framework to analyze such situations. The aim of this dissertation is to make some progress, in the field of logic, in the understanding of the notion of `right to say', progress that may help us understand and answer problems that involve such a notion. We focus on the informative part of communication (and not on its form) leading our topic to the notion of `right to give a piece of information'

This study was designed to explore the effects of authoring cycle curricular framework on third grade students’ writing skills, attitudes toward writing and self-perceptions as writers. Pre-test and post-test control group experimental design was used in the study the results of which revealed that there were significant differences between pre-test and post-test conditions of the experimental and control group in Writing Attitude Survey scores. On the other hand, the results revealed no significant differences between and within the groups’ Writer Self-Perception Scale scores. Three compositions on given topics were scored on appearance, organization, development, language. The analysis indicated no significant differences between groups’ composition scores. The results of the study show that changes in attitudes toward writing occur less in time. This study did not support the assertion that using authoring cycle to teach writing has a potential to alter the quality of students’ writing abilityBu araştırma, “Yazarlık Döngüsü” programının üçüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin yazılı anlatıma karşı tutumları, yazarlığa yönelik algıları ve yazılı anlatım becerileri üzerindeki etkisini araştırmak üzere planlanmıştır.

    Group announcement logic

AbstractTwo currently active strands of research on logics for multi-agent systems are dynamic epistemic logic, focusing on the epistemic consequences of actions, and logics of coalitional ability, focusing on what coalitions of agents can achieve by cooperating strategically. In this paper we bridge these topics by considering the question: “what can a coalition achieve by making public announcements?”. We propose an extension of public announcement logic with constructs of the form 〈G〉ϕ, where G is a group of agents, with the intuitive meaning that G can jointly execute a publicly observable action such that ϕ will be true afterwards. Actions here are taken to be truthful public announcements, but turn out also to include sequences of such joint actions as well as protocols with alternating actions by different agents, in response to the actions of others. We also study in detail the difference between ‘knowing how’ (knowing de re) and ‘knowing that’ (knowing de dicto) in our framework: both can elegantly be expressed in the single-agent case. We present several meta-logical properties of this Group Announcement Logic, including a sound and complete axiomatization, expressivity and the complexity of model checking

Report on occurrence of Yellow Sea Snake Hydrophis spiralis off Kerala coast

Sea snakes play an important role in the marine food web and studies on their diversity and distribution are very limited in India. Globally, 70 species of sea snakes have been reported under the family Elapidae which is divided into two subfamilies (i) Laticaudinae and (ii) Hydrophiinae. Sea snakes belonging to the subfamily Hydrophiinae are considered as ‘true sea snakes’ with 62 species which are viviparous (give birth to live young at sea). Laticaudinae sea snakes called the ‘sea kraits’ have 8 species and are oviparous. They come to the land for mating and to lay eggs
