SU(3) Symmetry Breaking and Octet Baryon Polarizabilities
Static polarizabilities of the low--lying baryons are studied within
the collective coordinate approach to the three flavor generalization of the
Skyrme model; in particular, magnetic polarizabilities are considered.
Predicted polarizabilities, which result from different treatments of the
strange degrees of freedom in this model, are critically compared. Their

Integrated Microreactor for Chemical and Biochemical Applications
A completely integrated microreactor was developed that allows for the processing of very small amounts of chemical solutions. The entire system comprises several pumps and valves arranged in different branches as well as a mixing unit and a reaction chamber. The streaming path of each branch contains two valves and one pump each. The pumps are driven by piezoelectric elements mounted on thin glass membranes. Each pump is about 3.5 mm x 3.5 mm x 0.7 mm. A pumping rate up to 25 microliters per hour can be achieved. The operational voltage ranges between 40 and 200 V. A volume stroke up to 1.5 millimeter is achievable from the membrane structures. The valves are designed as passive valves. Sealing is by thin metal films. The dimension of a valve unit is 0.8 x 0.8. 07 mm. The ends of the separate streaming branches are arranged to meet in one point. This point acts as the beginning of a mixer unit which contains several fork-shaped channels. The arrangement of these channels allows for the division of the whole liquid stream into partial streams and their reuniting. A homogeneous mixing of solutions and/or gases can be observed after having passed about 10 of the fork elements. A reaction chamber is arranged behind the mixing unit to support the chemical reaction of special fluids. This unit contains heating elements placed outside of the chamber. The complete system is arranged in a modular structure and is built up of silicon. It comprises three silicon wafers bonded together by applying the silicon direct bonding technology. The silicon structures are made only by wet chemical etching processes. The fluid connections to the outside are realized using standard injection needles glued into v-shaped structures on the silicon wafers. It is possible to integrate other components, like sensors or electronic circuits using silicon as the basic material
Flavor symmetry breaking effects on SU(3) Skyrmion
We study the massive SU(3) Skyrmion model to investigate the flavor symmetry
breaking (FSB) effects on the static properties of the strange baryons in the
framework of the rigid rotator quantization scheme combined with the improved
Dirac quantization one. Both the chiral symmetry breaking pion mass and FSB
kinetic terms are shown to improve the ratio of the strange-light to
light-light interaction strengths and that of the strange-strange to

Hyperon Polarizabilities in the Bound State Soliton Model
A detailed calculation of electric and magnetic static polarizabilities of
octet hyperons is presented in the framework of the bound state soliton model.
Both seagull and dispersive contributions are considered, and the results are

Fluctuation properties of strength functions associated with giant resonances
We performed fluctuation analysis by means of the local scaling dimension for
the strength function of the isoscalar (IS) and the isovector (IV) giant
quadrupole resonances (GQR) in Ca, where the strength functions are
obtained by the shell model calculation within up to the 2p2h configurations.
It is found that at small energy scale, fluctuation of the strength function
almost obeys the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (GOE) random matrix theory limit.
On the other hand, we found a deviation from the GOE limit at the intermediate
energy scale about 1.7MeV for the IS and at 0.9MeV for the IV. The results
imply that different types of fluctuations coexist at different energy scales.
Detailed analysis strongly suggests that GOE fluctuation at small energy scale
is due to the complicated nature of 2p2h states and that fluctuation at the
intermediate energy scale is associated with the spreading width of the
Tamm-Dancoff 1p1h states.Comment: 14 pages including 13figure
Semiclassical quantization of SU(3) skyrmions
Semiclassical quantization of the SU(3)-skyrmions is performed by means of
the collective coordinate method. The quantization condition known for the
SU(2)-solitons quantized with SU(3) collective coordinates is generalized for
the SU(3) skyrmions with strangeness content different from zero. Quantization
of the dipole-type configuration with large strangeness content found recently
is considered as an example, the spectrum and the mass splitting of the
quantized states are estimated. The energy and baryon number density of SU(3)
skyrmions are presented in the form emphasizing their symmetry in different
SU(2) subgroups of SU(3), and the lower boundary for the static energy of SU(3)

Escape and Spreading Properties of Charge-Exchange Resonances in Bi 208
The properties of charge-exchange excitations of Pb with , i.e., the isobaric analog and Gamow-Teller resonances, are studied within
a self-consistent model making use of an effective force of the Skyrme type.
The well-known isobaric analog case is used to assess the reliability of the
model. The calculated properties of the Gamow-Teller resonance are compared
with recent experimental measurements with the aim of better understanding the

Twist Mode in Spherical Alkali Metal Clusters
A remarkable orbital quadrupole magnetic resonance, so-called twist mode, is
predicted in alkali metal clusters where it is represented by
low-energy excitations of valence electrons with strong M2 transitions to the
ground state. We treat the twist by both macroscopic and microscopic ways. In
the latter case, the shell structure of clusters is fully exploited, which is
crucial for the considered size region (). The
energy-weighted sum rule is derived for the pseudo-Hamiltonian. In medium and
heavy spherical clusters the twist dominates over its spin-dipole counterpart

Hypernuclei as chiral solitons
The identification of flavored multiskyrmions with the ground states of known
hypernuclei is successful for several of them, e.g. for isodoublet H(Lambda) -
He(Lambda), A=4, isoscalars He(Lambda) (A=5) and Li(Lambda) (A=7). In other
cases agreement is not so good, but the behaviour of the binding energy with
increasing baryon number is in qualitative agreement with data. Charmed or
beauty hypernuclei within this approach are predicted to be bound stronger than
strange hypernuclei. This conclusion is stable against variation of poorly

Electric Polarizability of the Nucleon in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio Model
The electric polarizability of the nucleon is calculated in the soliton
approach to the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. We analyze the leading-
contributions, as well as the effects of rotational corrections and
- mass splitting. Our model prediction is substantially reduced
compared to other soliton calculations, and is closer to the experimental
