La ampliación de la UE hacia el Este: análisis del proceso de convergencia con una perspectiva mundial

En este artículo se analiza la convergencia económica en los países del Centro y Este de Europa desde una amplia perspectiva temporal y espacial, que permitirá ofrecer evidencia comparada sobre los procesos de convergencia de las distintas regiones mundiales. La extensa cobertura de la base de datos analizada permitirá evaluar la trayectoria que ha experimentado el proceso de convergencia de los países del Centro y Este de Europa antes y tras su incorporación a la UE. En este análisis se aplicará la metodología de panel de datos estático y dinámico con el objetivo de contrastar los resultados y ampliar la evidencia disponible. La evidencia obtenida muestra que el proceso de convergencia europeo se mantiene tras la entrada de los países del Centro y Este de Europa en la Unión Europea. Además, se observa que este grupo de países han conseguido intensificar el proceso de convergencia en el periodo analizado situándose entre las regiones mundiales que alcanzan resultados más favorables.This article analyzes the economic convergence in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe from a broad perspective, which will provide comparative evidence on the process of convergence for the different world regions. Globalización y convergencia económica: un análisis empírico para los países de América Latina

El trabajo presenta un análisis empírico sobre la convergencia para América Latina durante el periodo 1970-2005 centrando el interés en el papel desempeñado por la globalización, analizando este variable a partir de índices económicos, políticos y sociales. Para llevar a cabo este objetivo se utiliza la metodología de panel de datos y se aplican los conceptos de beta-convergencia y sigmaconvergencia. El estudio concluye que la globalización económica y social ha acelerado el proceso de convergencia en renta per cápita, mientras que la globalización política no muestra un impacto significativo sobre este proceso

A proposal to empirically evaluate the sensitivity of the speed of convergence in the EU

This article presents an innovative methodology to empirically evaluate the response of the rate of convergence in the neoclassical growth model to changes in the conditional factors. We apply this method to test the sensitivity of the speed of convergence in the EU-15 during the period 1980-2002 to increases in human and public capital. The analysis proposes two scenarios of convergence: the first one will make it possible to estimate the effect on the speed of convergence arising from changes in the instruments in the EU as a whole; and a second scenario where the effect on the speed of convergence resulting from changes in each one of the countries is considered separately. In this way an attempt will be made to identify not only the potential of various public policies to influence European convergence, but also the role they may play in each country toward achieving convergence in the EU

Distribución y crecimiento de la renta: un balance en perspectiva para las regiones mundiales 1950-2006

En este trabajo se realiza una revisión en perspectiva histórica sobre la renta a nivel mundial, considerando la distribución de la riqueza y la población de las diferentes regiones mundiales. Las conclusiones que se obtienen revelan que ante el reciente crecimiento de la renta per cápita internacional en el período 1950-2006, el brecha entre las regiones más pobres y las más ricas ha aumentado, a la vez que se han generado ciertas vulnerabilidades en las regiones más desfavorecidas, manifestando comportamientos con un crecimiento más inestable o volátil, como es el caso de África, o los países más rezagados de Asia y Oriente Próximo

Convergencia en protección social en la Unión Europea (1980-2001)

El modelo social europeo está siendo objeto de un intenso debate que trata de establecer en qué medida se ha visto afectado por los cambios socioeconómicos que han experimentado las economías europeas en las últimas décadas. Aunque cada Estado Miembro es responsable de la organización y financiación de su propio sistema de protección social, estos temas han adquirido mayor relevancia en el seno de la Unión Europea, al surgir la necesidad de lograr un mayor grado de convergencia también en estas políticas públicas. El estudio de los ciclos económicos ha sido de gran interés desde su análisis formal a principios del siglo XX, no obstante no se ha producido un consenso entre los expertos en cuanto a su definición y a las técnicas de estimación de los mismos. Proposal of a New Methodology for Traffic Flows Estimation through the Optimization of the Device Location and the Route Enumeration

In recent years, different techniques to address the problem of observability in traffic networks have been proposed in multiple research projects, being the technique based on the installation of automatic vehicle identification devices (AVI), one of the most successful in terms of results but to in turn, complex in terms of its combined use with other methods. Most of the current methods do not consider the possibility of installing a series of plate scanning devices in the elements of a network (nodes, links), such that they allow us to obtain a better definition of the O-D matrix and obtain a better set of data for the analysis and estimation of traffic flows for different scenarios. With these antecedents, a new methodology is proposed that jointly considers: 1) a device location model for a given traffic network according to criteria established by the analyst and, 2) a model that establish the best set of routes to be considered in the estimation step. An example of the application of this methodology for a real study network in Ciudad Real is shown, where a sensitivity analysis is applied to test the influence of a set of relevant variables
