Quality assessment in strawberries is generally performed through refractometric techniques to determine total soluble solids (TSS). The objective of this work was to establish the correlation between fruit quality and two different set of color parameters obtained through two colorimetric instruments. Three varieties of strawberries were harvested ('Camarosa', 'Florida Festival' and 'Camino Real') from the Estación Experimental Agropecuaria Famaillá – INTA, throughout the season 2013. In each fruit TSS content and colorimetric variables in two different color spaces were measured. We looked for the best correlating model within two color spaces and we found that the best correlation was reached with only the a* parameter from the CIE L*a*b* color space. However, the error in the prediction of fruit quality based on color measurement was in the order of ±3° Brix.EEA FamailláFil: Solórzano, A.C. In depth analysis of kinase cross screening data to identify CaMKK2 inhibitory scaffolds

The calcium/calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase kinase 2 (CAMKK2) activates CAMK1, CAMK4, AMPK, and AKT, leading to numerous physiological responses. The deregulation of CAMKK2 is linked to several diseases, suggesting the utility of CAMKK2 inhibitors for oncological, metabolic and inflammatory indications. In this work, we demonstrate that STO‐609, frequently described as a selective inhibitor for CAMKK2, potently inhibits a significant number of other kinases. Through an analysis of literature and public databases, we have identified other potent CAMKK2 inhibitors and verified their activities in differential scanning fluorimetry and enzyme inhibition assays. These inhibitors are potential starting points for the development of selective CAMKK2 inhibitors and will lead to tools that delineate the roles of this kinase in disease biology.252CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO - CNPQFUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - FAPESP465651/2014-32013/50724-5; 2014/50897-0; 2019/14275-

Measuring vital signs in children with fever at the emergency department: an observational study on adherence to the NICE recommendations in Europe

Vital signs can help clinicians identify children at risk of serious illness. The NICE guideline for fever in under-fives recommends a routine measurement of temperature, heart rate, capillary refill and respiratory rate in all febrile children visiting the emergency department (ED). This study aims to evaluate the measurement of paediatric vital signs in European EDs, with specific attention to adherence to this NICE guideline recommendation. In a prospective observational study, we included 4560 febrile children under 16 years from the ED of 28 hospitals in 11 European countries (2014–2016). Hospitals were academic (n = 17), teaching (n = 10) and non-teaching (n = 1) and ranged in annual paediatric ED visits from 2700 to 88,000. Fifty-four percent were male, their median age was 2.4 years (IQR 1.1–4.7). Temperature was measured most frequently (97%), followed by capillary refill (86%), heart rate (73%), saturation (56%) and respiratory rate (51%). In children under five (n = 3505), a complete measurement of the four NICE-recommended vital signs was performed in 48% of patients. Children under 1 year of age, those with an urgent triage level and with respiratory infections had a higher likelihood of undergoing complete measurements. After adjustment for these factors, variability between countries remained. Conclusion: Measuring vital signs in children with fever in the ED occurs with a high degree of practice variation between different European hospitals, and adherence to the NICE recommendation is moderate. Our study is essential as a benchmark for current clinical practice, in order to tailor implementation strategies to different European settings. What is Known:• Vital signs can quickly provide information on disease severity in children in the emergency department (ED), and the NICE guideline for fever in under-fives recommends to routinely measure temperature, heart rate, capillary refill and respiratory rate.• Data regarding measurement of vital signs in routine practice across European EDs is currently unavailable. What is New:• Measurement of vital signs in febrile children is highly variable across European EDs and across patient subgroups, and compliance to the NICE recommendation is <50%.• Children under 1 year of age, those with an urgent triage level and with respiratory infections had a higher likelihood of undergoing complete measurements

Phase diagram of a superconductor / ferromagnet bilayer

The magnetic field (H) - temperature (T) phase diagram of a superconductor is significantly altered when domains are present in an underlying ferromagnet with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. When the domains have a band-like shape, the critical temperature Tc of the superconductor in zero field is strongly reduced, and the slope of the upper critical field as a function of T is increased by a factor of 2.4 due to the inhomogeneous stray fields of the domains. Field compensation effects can cause an asymmetric phase boundary with respect to H when the ferromagnet contains bubble domains. For a very inhomogeneous domain structure, Tc~H^2 for low H and Tc~H for higher fields, indicating a dimensional crossover from a one-dimensional network-like to a two-dimensional behavior in the nucleation of superconductivity.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure

This descriptive-inferential research aims to compare the parental assessment of 1,787 families with respect to schoolwork in times of confinement according to the nationality and level of education of the families. The results show that immigrant families identify more changes in schoolwork in all aspects except for emotional exhaustion. In addition, the educational level of both parents has a significant impact on some study variables such as emotional distress, perceived increase in time spent on homework and promotion of the positive effects of homework.

The unification of inflation and late-time acceleration in the frame of kk-essence

By using the formulation of the reconstruction, we explicitly construct models of kk-essence, which unify the inflation in the early universe and the late accelerating expansion of the present universe by a single scalar field. Due to the higher derivative terms, the solution describing the unification can be stable in the space of solutions, which makes the restriction for the initial condition relaxed. The higher derivative terms also eliminate tachyon. Therefore we can construct a model describing the time development, which cannot be realized by a usual inflaton or quintessence models of the canonical scalar field due to the instability or the existence of tachyon. We also propose a mechanism of the reheating by the quantum effects coming from the variation of the energy density of the scalar field.Comment: LaTeX, 13 pages, 10 figure
