    Breakdown transients in high-k multilayered MOS stacks: Role of the oxide-oxide thermal boundary resistance

    In this work, breakdown transients of multilayered gate oxide stacks were analyzed to study the impact of the interfaces between oxides on the heat dissipation considering an electromigration-based progressive breakdown model. Using two distinct measurement setups on four different sets of samples, featuring two layers and three layers of Al 2 O 3 and HfO 2 interspersed, the breakdown transients were captured and characterized in terms of the degradation rate. Experimental results show that the number of oxide-oxide interfaces present in the multilayered stack has no visible impact on the breakdown growth rate among our samples. This strongly supports the interpretation of the bulk materials dominating the heat transfer to the surroundings of a fully formed conductive filament that shows no electrical differences between our various multilayered stack configurations.Fil: Boyeras Baldomá, Santiago.     Tuning lipase B from Candida antarctica C–C bond promiscuous activity by immobilization on poly-styrene-divinylbenzene beads

    Lipase B from Candida antarctica (CALB) is able to catalyze C–C bond formation. After immobilization onto a hydrophobic PS-DVB support, the activity increases when compared to that of the soluble or tan – the commercially available Novozyme 435 (being up to 6 fold more active). Our results show that although this activity is not related to the catalytic group, the promiscuous activity of CALB may be tuned via immobilization. In addition, we have show that the secondary structure of both immobilized enzymes is quite different, using FT-ATR-IR spectroscopy

    Quantum chemical topological analysis of hydrogen bonding in HX…HX and CH3X…HX dimers (X = Br, Cl, F)

    We present a systematic investigation of the nature and strength of the hydrogen bonding in HX···HX and CH3X…HX (X = Br, Cl and F) dimers using ab initio MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ calculations in the framework of the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and electron localisation functions (ELFs) methods. The electron density of the complexes has been characterised, and the hydrogen bonding energy, as well as the QTAIM and ELF parameters, is consistent, providing deep insight into the origin of the hydrogen bonding in these complexes.     Analysis of Ostwald ripening in Ni-rich Ni–Ti alloys by diffusion couples

    "The coarsening kinetics of gamma' precipitates in Ni-rich Ni-Ti alloys are studied using a Ni-11-5 wt% Ti and pure Ni diffusion couple. The formed concentration gradient allowed to study the aging process at 1023 K (750 degrees C) in Ni-rich Ni Ti alloys with Ti content from 8-62 to 11-15 wt% Ti. In general, during the coarsening of gamma' precipitates, the experimental coarsening kinetics do not fit well to the LSW or TIDC theoretical models and anomalous behaviour of coarsening rate constant (k(r)) associated with gamma' volume-fraction is confirmed at high values.

    Molecular Gas in NUclei of GAlaxies (NUGA) III. The warped LINER NGC3718

    16 pages, 17 figures.-- Published in: A&A 442, 479-493 (2005), publisher version available at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1051/0004-6361:20041731.We present the first interferometric observations of CO(1–0) and CO(2–1) line emission from the warped LINER NGC 3718, obtained with the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI). This L1.9 galaxy has a prominent dust lane and on kiloparsec scales, a strongly warped atomic and molecular gas disk. The molecular gas is closely associated with the dust lane across the nucleus and its kinematic center is consistent with the millimeter continuum AGN. A comparison of our interferometric mosaic data, which fully cover the ~ 9 kpc warped disk, with a previously obtained IRAM 30m single dish CO(1–0) map shows that the molecular gas distribution in the disk is heavily resolved by the PdBI map. On the nucleus the interferometric maps alone contain less than one half of the single dish line flux, and the overall mosaic accounts for about a tenth of the total molecular gas mass of ~ 2.4 × 108M⊙. After applying a short-spacing correction with the IRAM 30m data to recover the missing extended flux, we find in total six main source components within the dust lane: one associated with the nucleus, four symmetrically positioned on either side at galactocentric distances of about 1.3 kpc and 4.0 kpc from the center, and a sixth on the western side at ~ 3 kpc with only a very weak eastern counterpart. In the framework of a kinematic model using tilted rings, we interpret the five symmetric source components as locations of strong orbital crowding. We further find indications that the warp appears not only on kpc scales, but continues down to ~ 250 pc. Besides the sixth feature on the western side, the lower flux (a factor of ~ 2) of the eastern components compared to the western ones indicates an intrinsic large scale asymmetry in NGC 3718 that cannot be explained by the warp. Indications for a small scale asymmetry are also seen in the central 600 pc. These asymmetries might be evidence for a tidal interaction with a companion galaxy (large scales) and gas accretion onto the nucleus (small scales). Our study of NGC 3718 is part of the NUclei of GAlaxies (NUGA) project that aims at investigating the different processes of gas accretion onto Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN).The research presented in this paper has been financially supported in part by the SFB 494.     UBVRIz Light Curves of 51 Type II Supernovae

    We present a compilation of UBV RIz light curves of 51 type II supernovae discovered during the course of four different surveys during 1986 to 2003: the Cerro Tololo Supernova Survey, the Calan/Tololo Supernova Program (C&T), the Supernova Optical and Infrared Survey (SOIRS), and the Carnegie Type II Supernova Survey (CATS). The photometry is based on template-subtracted images to eliminate any potential host galaxy light contamination, and calibrated from foreground stars. This work presents these photometric data, studies the color evolution using different bands, and explores the relation between the magnitude at maximum brightness and the brightness decline parameter (s) from maximum light through the end of the recombination phase. This parameter is found to be shallower for redder bands and appears to have the best correlation in the B band. In addition, it also correlates with the plateau duration, being thus shorter (longer) for larger (smaller) s values.Comment: 110 pages, 9 Figures, 6 Tables, accepted in A
