Levels of reasoning between students: An experiment on level-k
Treballs Finals del MÃ ster d'Economia, Facultat d'Economia i Empresa, Universitat de Barcelona. Curs: 2020-2022, Tutor: Alessandro De ChiaraBosch-Domenech et al. (2002) designed a very powerful model to study the levels of reasoning of subjects, and up to which point they can iterate their thinking. I adapted this framework to study the differences in reasoning between business students and economics students. I hypothesized about the degree of reasoning of each type of student and ran an experiment in my faculty. Subjects were asked to solve an adapted version of the Keynesian beauty contest game. I compared the responses of business students against the responses of economics students. No significant difference was found in their pattern of responses. However, there is a large number of observations of business students in the last level of reasoning of my experiment. This supports the hypothesis that business students solved the game by iterated dominance. I also provide a brief discussion about other factors that could drive different responses in the game such as gender, language of the class, game theory knowledge of the subject and nationality
Existence of invariant tori in skew-product systems: A computer assisted approach
This work is a computer assisted approach to the study of invariant manifolds in skew-product dynamical systems. More specifically, the existence of an invariant tori under a quasi-periodic perturbation of our system. The goal is to use a computer to prove the theorem that states that a fiberwise hyperbolic invariant tori exists given an approximately invariant one that meets the required hypotheses
Quasi-periodic solutions in quasi-periodic systems via Fourier transforms
Treballs Finals de Grau de Matemà tiques, Facultat de Matemà tiques, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2018, Director: Àlex Haro[eng] Within the field of dynamical systems, one shall find a special sort of systems, systems that revolve around external perturbations, either periodic or quasi-periodic, the so called skew-product dynamical systems. Even though the study of these systems can be a very helpful source of tools for an engineering or more practical work that may present systems alike, the main focus of this project is of a more theoretical nature. What is about to be presented is an approach to response solutions of such perturbated systems and the proof of existence and uniqueness of invariant fiberwise hyperbolic tori given an approximate torus of
such characteristics, and the further expression of the proof’s conditions in computable terms via Fourier transforms. Besides the theoretical part, it is also provided an algorithm and its respective computational implementation that allows to simplify the expression of the linear dynamics of a system under a quasi-periodic perturbation into a diagonal matrix at the cost of an error that will significantly decrease at each step of the algorithm

Prevalence of burnout syndrome among teachers according to educational stage and the teaching experience
This can cause teachers to suffer from the burnout syndrome which is a serious risk not only for teachers themselves, but also for the effects on children and young people education. The aim of this study is to analyse the prevalence of burnout syndrome according to educational stage and the teaching experience. The sample includes 171 Childhood, Primary, Secondary and A levels teachers. The results confirm that there is no association between the presence of burnout and the educational stage variable, however there is a clear trend of elevated burnout rate in primary school, ESO and A levels and diminished levels in Childhood education. The effect of experience years resulted to be not statistically significant, not only for each one of the burnout dimensions, but also for the burnout syndrome prevalence
Social interactions and language use in multicultural settings: an exploratory study of personal networks
This study tests the use of social network analysis in the diagnostics of personal communities as relational systems that affect how languages are learned. The egocentric approach of this methodology was applied to identifying the personal networks of adult immigrants attending a literacy program. The study is an exploratory and descriptive analysis with EgoNet software based on five cases. The results show small networks with few significant 'alters' (five to eight), without weak ties in areas of relationship with neighbours or other acquaintances, and in which the prevailing language of communication was the same as that of 'ego' - with, in some cases, multicultural networks using different languages of communication
Beyond compulsory schooling: resilience and academic success of immigrant youth
The present study examines the relationship between resilience and school completion of immigrant youth in Spain. Ninety- four students in their fourth year compulsory education participated in the study; they were from 19 different nationalities, between 15 and 18 years of age, and the ratio boys/girls was 55/45. There were no significant differences by gender, age, residence time, or incorporation into the education system. Differences were associated to cultural groups and variables related with academic self-perception. Finally, it was shown that young students that continue their studies beyond obligatory education have higher levels of resilience, as measured by the SV-RES scale. Overall, the findings in this study suggest the activation of the relational dimension of "social capital" in youth, as for example through mentoring or service-learning programs
