It is well known that every Del Pezzo surface of degree 5 defined over k is parametrizable over k. In this paper we give an efficient construction for parametrizing, as well as algorithms for constructing examples in every isomorphism class and for deciding equivalence.Comment: 15 page

The processes of urban sprawl in the environment of mid-size cities during the period of expansive urbanism. Territorial impact in an interior area (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain)

[EN] The processes of urban sprawl have increased since the end of the century. They have occurred in a context of economic prosperity, in which part of the capital surplus has been directed towards the construction industry, and especially towards the dwellings. The dynamic has been reproduced in the different scales of the urban hierarchy. Much of the new urban developments and constructions have been directed to the peripheral areas. Urban sprawl has increased in the environment of big cities, but also around medium-sized cities. This reality is manifested differently, depending on the case, but it has also left some general processes. In this essay attention has been centered on the changes in the housing in the peripheries of the Spanish medium-sized cities. The changes between 1991 and 2011 in a radius of 30 around the cities selected have been analyzed in order to identify the scope of urban sprawl, the temporary differences in the process and the most common collected ones. As an object of analysis seven inner and remote cities of Castilla- La Mancha have been used. We can observe a priori differentiating processes, and others that respond to logics associated to the influence of the polynuclear metropolitan area of Madrid. This essay is part of the research project called “Dynamics of urbanization and urban planning policies in mid-sized inner cities. From expansion and dispersal to reformulation, towards a more urban planning? (CSO2015-63970-R). Low-Cost Piezoelectric Sensors for Time Domain Load Monitoring of Metallic Structures During Operational and Maintenance Processes

    Get PDF
The versatility of piezoelectric sensors in measurement techniques and their performance in applications has given rise to an increased interest in their use for structural and manufacturing component monitoring. They enable wireless and sensor network solutions to be developed in order to directly integrate the sensors into machines, fixtures and tools. Piezoelectric sensors increasingly compete with strain-gauges due to their wide operational temperature range, load and strain sensing accuracy, low power consumption and low cost. This research sets out the use of piezoelectric sensors for real-time monitoring of mechanical strength in metallic structures in the ongoing operational control of machinery components. The behaviour of aluminium and steel structures under flexural strength was studied using piezoelectric sensors. Variations in structural behaviour and geometry were measured, and the load and μstrains during operational conditions were quantified in the time domain at a specific frequency. The lead zirconium titanate (PZT) sensors were able to distinguish between material types and thicknesses. Moreover, this work covers frequency selection and optimisation from 20 Hz to 300 kHz. Significant differences in terms of optimal operating frequencies and sensitivity were found in both structures. The influence of the PZT voltage applied was assessed to reduce power consumption without signal loss, and calibration to μstrains and loads was performed. This research was funded by Basque Government, grant number KK-2019/00051-SMARTRESNAK and by the European Commission, grant number 869884- RECLAIM

International expansion and riskiness of Banks

    Get PDF
We exploit an original dataset on European G-SIBs to assess how expansion in foreign markets affects their riskiness. We find a robust negative correlation between foreign expansion and bank risk (proxied by various individual and systemic risk metrics). Given individual bank riskiness, banks’expansion reduces the average riskiness of the banks’ pool (between effect). Moreover, foreign expansion of any given bank reduces its own risk (within effect). Diversification, competition and regulation channels are all important. Expansion in destination countries with different business cycle co-movement, stricter regulations and higher competition than the origin country decreases a bank’s riskiness

Immune Regulation by Dendritic Cell Extracellular Vesicles in Cancer Immunotherapy and Vaccines.

    Get PDF
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a crucial role in intercellular communication as vehicles for the transport of membrane and cytosolic proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids including different RNAs. Dendritic cells (DCs)-derived EVs (DEVs), albeit variably, express major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-peptide complexes and co-stimulatory molecules on their surface that enable the interaction with other immune cells such as CD8+ T cells, and other ligands that stimulate natural killer (NK) cells, thereby instructing tumor rejection, and counteracting immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment. Malignant cells oppose this effect by secreting EVs bearing a variety of molecules that block DCs function. For instance, tumor-derived EVs (TDEVs) can impair myeloid cell differentiation resulting in myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) generation. Hence, the unique composition of EVs makes them suitable candidates for the development of new cancer treatment approaches including prophylactic vaccine targeting oncogenic pathogens, cancer vaccines, and cancer immunotherapeutics. We offer a perspective from both cell sides, DCs, and tumor cells, on how EVs regulate the antitumor immune response, and how this translates into promising therapeutic options by reviewing the latest advancement in DEV-based cancer therapeutics. This work was supported by grant SAF2017-82886-R from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), grant S2017/BMD-3671-INFLAMUNE-CM from the Comunidad de Madrid, a grant from the Ramón Areces Foundation “Ciencias de la Vida y la Salud” (XIX Concurso-2018) and a grant from Ayudas Fundación BBVA a Equipos de Investigación Científica (BIOMEDICINA-2018), the Fundació Marató TV3 (grant 122/C/2015) and “La Caixa” Banking Foundation (HR17-00016).
