RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WORK-FAMILY CONFLICT AND JOB SATISFACTION: THE MODERATING EFFECT OF GENDER AND THE SALIENCE OF FAMILY AND WORK ROLES
Work-family conflict has become an issue of particular concern to today’s businesses. Its prevalence among employees and the negative consequences of this conflict for one’s job satisfaction has led it to become one of the problems that managers and directors have to deal with most. Although there have been researches into the relationship between work-family conflict and job satisfaction, few studies have analysed the role of gender in this relationship. The objectives of this study are to analyse the moderating role of gender and of the salience of family and work roles in the work-to-family conflict and general job satisfaction, while the job’s characteristics are controlled. 162 workers from a Spanish public organisation took part in the study. The results from the regression analysis confirms the moderating effect of gender on the relationship between work-to-family conflict and job satisfaction, such that women show a lower level of job satisfaction than men. However, the salience of the family and work roles were not found to have a moderating effect on the aforementioned relationship, neither in the case of men nor in women. The results are discussed in the context of the theory of role identity salience and the gender role theory, as well as the possible cultural effects
WORK FAMILY AND FAMILY WORK CONFLICT: DOES INTRINSIC, EXTRINSIC SATISFACTION MEDIATE THE PREDICTION OF GENERAL JOB SATISFACTION?
The objective of this study is to analyze the mediating role of intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction in the relationship between the 2 dimensions of work–family conflict—family interfering with work (FIW) and work interfering with family (WIF)—and general job satisfaction. Step-by-step hierarchical regression analyses were carried out on a sample of 151 men and women from a Spanish public organization. The results confirmed the mediating role of intrinsic job satisfaction in the case of FIW. This highlights the importance of taking into account the level of satisfaction with the intrinsic facets of one’s job as a measure for understanding why FIW has a negative impact on general job satisfaction
Abstract
Objective. To quantify the technical efficiency of diabetes care in family practice settings, characterize the provision of services and health results, and recognize potential sources of variation. Material and Methods. We used data envelopment analysis with inputs and outputs for diabetes care from 47 family units within a social security agency in Nuevo Leon. Tobit regression models were also used. Results. Seven units were technically efficient in providing services and nine in achieving health goals. Only two achieved both outcomes. The metropolitan location and the total number of consultations favored efficiency in the provision of services regardless of patient attributes; and the age of the doctor, the efficiency of health results. Conclusions. Performance varied within and among family units; some were efficient at providing services while others at accomplishing health goals. Sources of variation also differed. It is necessary to include
both outputs in the study of efficiency of diabetes care in family practice settings

Claudin-3 Loss of Expression Is a Prognostic Marker in Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer
Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) development is the foremost concern after treatment of patients with high risk with locally advanced or metastatic prostate cancer. Androgen receptor (AR) is the main driver of CRPC development, through its interaction with epigenetic modifier genes, placing epigenetics modifications in the forefront of CRPC development. Comparing the DNA methylation and expression profile of androgen-sensitive and -refractory prostate cancer cells, we describe the epigenetic silencing of claudin-3 (CLDN3) in AR positive cells resistant to androgen deprivation (LNCaP-abl). CLDN3 silencing was associated with DNA methylation, loss of histone acetylation and H3K27 methylation, and was re-expressed by the combined treatment with the epigenetic modulators Aza and SAHA. From a functional point of view, CLDN3 loss was associated with increased cellular invasion. Immunohistochemical analysis showed decreased CLDN3 expression in samples from CRPC patients. Interestingly, CLDN3 expression was significantly decreased in samples from patients with high total Gleason score (>= 8) and locally advanced tumors. Finally, CLDN3 loss of expression was associated with worse disease-free survival and time to clinical progression. In conclusion, our findings strongly indicate that epigenetic silencing of CLDN3 is a common event in CRPC that could be useful as a molecular marker for the prognosis of prostate cancer patients and to discriminate aggressive from indolent prostate tumors
Phenotypic Characterization of Encephalitis and Immune Response in the Brains of Lambs Experimentally Infected with Spanish Goat Encephalitis Virus
[EN]Spanish goat encephalitis virus (SGEV), a novel subtype of tick-borne flavivirus closely
related to louping ill virus, causes a neurological disease in experimentally infected goats and lambs.
Here, the distribution of microglia, T and B lymphocytes, and astrocytes was determined in the
encephalon and spinal cord of eight Assaf lambs subcutaneously infected with SGEV. Cells were
identified based on immunohistochemical staining against Iba1 (microglia), CD3 (T lymphocytes),
CD20 (B lymphocytes), and glial fibrillary acidic protein (astrocytes). In glial foci and perivascular
cu ng areas, microglia were the most abundant cell type (45.4% of immunostained cells), followed
by T lymphocytes (18.6%) and B lymphocytes (4.4%). Thalamus, hypothalamus, corpus callosum,
and medulla oblongata contained the largest areas occupied by glial foci. Reactive astrogliosis
occurred to a greater extent in the lumbosacral spinal cord than in other regions of the central nervous
system. Lesions were more frequent on the side of the animal experimentally infected with the virus.
Lesions were more severe in lambs than in goats, suggesting that lambs may be more susceptible
to SGEV, which may be due to species di erences or to interindividual di erences in the immune
response, rather than to di erences in the relative proportions of immune cells. Larger studies that
monitor natural or experimental infections may help clarify local immune responses to this flavivirus
subtype in the central nervous system.SIThis work was partially supported by a FEDER co-funded grant from the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria (E-RTA2013-00013-C04-04), Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (MCIU) and the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) reference project RTI2018-096010-B-C21 (FEDER co-funded) and by the Principado de Asturias, PCTI 2018–220 (GRUPIN: IDI2018-000237 and FEDER). Dark Matter Annual Modulation Results from the ANAIS-112 Experiment
An annual modulation in the interaction rate of galactic dark matter particles is foreseen due to Earth’s movement around the Sun; the DAMA/LIBRA observation of a modulation signal compatible with expectations has intrigued the community for twenty years. The ANAIS-112 experiment, with a target of 112.5 kg of NaI(Tl), has been running smoothly at the Canfranc Underground Laboratory (Spain) since 2017. It aims to test this observation using the same detection technique and target. Results on the modulation search from two years of data (220.7 kg·y) have been presented and the analysis of three years (313.6 kg·y) is underway. Under the hypothesis of modulation, the deduced amplitudes from best fits are in all cases compatible with zero for the two energy regions at [2–6] and [1–6] keV; the results agree with the expected sensitivity for the considered exposure and fully support the goal of achieving a 3σ sensitivity to explore the DAMA/LIBRA result for a five-year operation. Here, the ANAIS-112 set-up and performance will be briefly recapped and the annual modulation results and prospects will be discussed
