Williams syndrome and psychosis: a case report

INTRODUCTION: Mental comorbidities, such as phobia, obsessive compulsive symptoms and anxiety disorders, are common in Williams syndrome. However, psychotic symptoms are rare in these patients. We report a case of psychosis in a patient with Williams syndrome. CASE PRESENTATION: A 23-year-old Caucasian woman with Williams syndrome arrived at the emergency room with persecutory delusions, auditory and verbal hallucinations, soliloquies and psychomotor agitation. These symptoms were consistently present for 2 months. No evidence of other medical illnesses or psychoactive substances was found. There was no evidence of prior psychiatric symptoms or family history of psychiatric or neurological disorders. She was treated with antipsychotics and her symptoms were resolved. CONCLUSION: We describe a rare case of a patient with Williams syndrome who experienced a nonorganic psychotic episode. Literature on this topic is scarce and, therefore, this case report intends to add further data about this comorbidity

Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer Modeling of Underwater Channel

The radiative transfer equation (RTE) is a theoretical framework that can be used for predicting and interpreting underwater light fields in terms of the constituents of natural water bodies. However, the RTE is a complex integrodifferential equation and deriving exact solutions for it is a difficult task. In this chapter, we aim to present some details regarding Monte Carlo simulations and how this method may be applied to solve the RTE numerically. By solving the RTE, one may accurately predict the received power and estimate the channel bandwidth and several other measurable parameters with regard to multiple water conditions. Síntese e avaliação estrutural de um novo ligante bis(ditiocarbazato) e seu complexo de ouro(III)

Trabalho de conclusão de curso (graduação) — Universidade de Brasília, Instituto de Química, 2021.O presente estudo reporta a síntese de um novo ligante dibenzoilmetanobis (benzilditiocarbazato) (H3L) NNSS tetradentado e o seu complexo de ouro(III) dibenzoilmetanobis(benzilditiocarbazato) ouro(III) ([Au(L)]), ambos inéditos na literatura. O H3L foi caracterizado por espectroscopia na região do infravermelho, espectroscopia na região do ultravioleta-visível, ressonância magnética nuclear de 1H e 13C e ponto de fusão. O composto de coordenação foi caracterizado por difração de raios X de monocristal e foi também discutida a sua superfície de Hirshfeld. É possível observar no ligante que há a formação do anel pirazolínico característico para este tipo de moléculas dessa classe das bases de Schiff e assume seu tautômero tiona quando é ligante livre, conformação que muda ao se coordenar ao átomo de Au(III), assumindo o tautômero tiolato. O parâmetro de Okuniewski do complexo foi de τ’4 = 0,0227, conferindo uma geometria quadrado planar levemente distorcida para centro metálico. O complexo é neutro, já que o ligante comporta uma carga triplamente negativa (L3-) e o átomo de ouro possui uma carga triplamente positiva (Au3+). Os gráficos de fingerprint obtidos a partir da superfície de Hirshfeld do complexo mostram que a maioria dos contatos entre as moléculas dentro da estrutura cristalina são entre os átomos de hidrogênio, carbono e enxofre.The present study reports the synthesis of a new NNSS tetradentate ligand dibenzoylmethanebis(benzyldithiocarbazate) (H3L) and its new gold(III) complex dibenzoylmethanebis(benzyldithiocarbazate) gold(III) ([Au(L)]). H3L was characterized by infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance and melting point. The coordination compound was characterized by single-crystal x-ray diffraction and its Hirshfeld surface was also discussed. It is possible to observe the formation of the pyrrazolinic ring common to the molecules of this class of the Schiff bases and H3L takes on its thione tautomer as a free ligand, conformation which then changes when the ligand coordenates with de Au(III) atom taking on the thiolate tautomer conformation. Okuniewski's parameter for the complex is τ’4 = 0.0227, confering a slightly distorted square planar geometry for the central metal. The complex is neutral, as the ligant coordinates with a tiple negative charge (L3-) and the gold atom holds a triple positive charge (Au3+). The fingerprint plots obtained from the Hirshfeld's surface of the complex shows that the majority of the contacts of the molecules inside the crystal structure are between the hydrogen, carbon and sulfur atoms

Germinação de sementes de milho tratadas com inseticidas

This study aimed evaluate the effect of seed treatment with different insecticides in different periods of storage after this treatmen in maizeseeds. The research was carried out in the seed analysis laboratory of the School of Agronomy and Food Engineering at Federal University of Goiás - UFG. The design was completely randomized in a factorial 3 x 4 with 20 replications, with three factors storage periods and four insecticides types for seed treatment. It was used two double hybrids (BR 205 e PL 6882), two varieties(AL Bandeirante e Emgopa 501) and a simple hybrid (PL 1335), constituting a single factor (genotype) for each insecticide. The seeds have been tested for germination and vigor, after the seed treatment at each storage period. The tests used were germination and tetrazolium. The results were statistically analyzed by F-test and it means were compared by Tukey test at 5% probability and the data processed by non-germinated seeds √(x + 1) to meet the assumptions of analysis of variance. Treatment with insecticide and storage influence on seed germination and the interaction of treatment seed and storage influence on the number of seeds ungerminated.Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito do tratamento de sementes com diferentes inseticidas em diferentes períodos de armazenamento após este tratamento em sementes de milho. A pesquisa foi realizada no laboratório de análise de sementes da Faculdade de Agronomia e Engenharia de Alimentos da Universidade Federal de Goiás - UFG. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado em fatorial 3 x 4, com 20 repetições, com três períodos de armazenamento de fatores e quatro tipos de inseticidas para o tratamento de sementes. Foram utilizados dois híbridos duplos (BR 205 e PL 6882), duas variedades (AL Bandeirante e Emgopa 501) e um híbrido simples (PL 1335), constituindo um único fator (genótipo) para cada inseticida. As sementes foram testadas quanto à germinação e vigor, após o tratamento das sementes em cada período de armazenamento. Os testes utilizados foram germinação e tetrazólio. Os resultados foram analisados ​​estatisticamente pelo teste F e suas médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade e os dados processados ​​por sementes não germinadas √ (x + 1) para atender aos pressupostos da análise de variância. Reasons for technology-based companies contemplated by the first company program to seek ISO 9001:2008 certification

The search for implementation of Quality Management Systems aims to continuously improve their results. Thus, for the services and/or products offered to convey trust and credibility, they must be designed within appropriate norms and standards. In this sense, this study seeks to assess the reasons that induce incubated technology-based companies to seek adequacy of their quality management system to the NBR ISO 9001:2008 standard. Through an exploratory survey in twenty-six incubated technology-based companies, a twelve-question questionnaire proposed by Bhuiyan and Alam (2005) was applied. After analyzing the data, it is concluded that the reasons for adequacy of QMS to the NBR ISO 9001:2008 standard are: competitive advantage over competitors; consultant´s approach for implementation; improvement in product quality; and government funding for ISO 9001 certification.  It is found that the consultant´s approach stands out as a strong reason for seeking the adequacy of QMS to the NBR ISO 9001 standard

Juventude e educação: a militarização das escolas em Goiás

The article analyses the consequences of the implementation process of the Colleges of the Military Police of the State of Goiás, Brazil, based on the concepts of body control and total institutions, showing how this authoritarian model is closely linked to the policy of restricting the freedom of expression of the school community. The text analyzes the arguments of public agents for the vertiginous expansion of this educational model and makes a critical reading of the rules of conduct applied to militarized educational units in the state. It is noted that the rules applied to the school community in these units - such as the daily presence of a sequence of activities guaranteed by punishment mechanisms established by a hierarchy and the set of rules that standardize the look of students and cause loss of identity - allow strict control of the actions of teachers and students, governed by the supervision of officers appointed by the general command of the Military Police, even limiting freedom of expression, considered a fundamental precept for a citizen's education.O artigo analisa as consequências do processo de implementação dos Colégios da Polícia Militar do Estado de Goiás, Brasil, a partir dos conceitos de controle do corpo e de instituições totais, mostrando como esse modelo autoritário está intimamente ligado à política de restrição da liberdade de expressão da comunidade escolar. O texto analisa os argumentos dos agentes públicos para a vertiginosa expansão desse modelo educacional e faz uma leitura crítica das regras de conduta aplicadas às unidades educacionais militarizadas no Estado. Constata-se que as normas aplicadas à comunidade escolar nestas unidades – como, por exemplo, a presença cotidiana de uma sequência de atividades garantidas por mecanismos de punição estabelecidos por uma hierarquia e o conjunto de regras que padronizam o visual dos estudantes e causam a perda de identidade – permitem controle rígido das ações de docentes e discentes, regrada a partir da tutela de oficiais designados pelo comando-geral da Polícia Militar, limitando inclusive a liberdade de expressão, considerado como preceito fundamental para uma educação cidadã
