    Get PDF

A Note on Flips in Diagonal Rectangulations

    Get PDF
Rectangulations are partitions of a square into axis-aligned rectangles. A number of results provide bijections between combinatorial equivalence classes of rectangulations and families of pattern-avoiding permutations. Other results deal with local changes involving a single edge of a rectangulation, referred to as flips, edge rotations, or edge pivoting. Such operations induce a graph on equivalence classes of rectangulations, related to so-called flip graphs on triangulations and other families of geometric partitions. In this note, we consider a family of flip operations on the equivalence classes of diagonal rectangulations, and their interpretation as transpositions in the associated Baxter permutations, avoiding the vincular patterns { 3{14}2, 2{41}3 }. This complements results from Law and Reading (JCTA, 2012) and provides a complete characterization of flip operations on diagonal rectangulations, in both geometric and combinatorial terms

A new meta-module for efficient reconfiguration of hinged-units modular robots

    Get PDF
We present a robust and compact meta-module for edge-hinged modular robot units such as M-TRAN, SuperBot, SMORES, UBot, PolyBot and CKBot, as well as for central-point-hinged ones such as Molecubes and Roombots. Thanks to the rotational degrees of freedom of these units, the novel meta-module is able to expand and contract, as to double/halve its length in each dimension. Moreover, for a large class of edge-hinged robots the proposed meta-module also performs the scrunch/relax and transfer operations required by any tunneling-based reconfiguration strategy, such as those designed for Crystalline and Telecube robots. These results make it possible to apply efficient geometric reconfiguration algorithms to this type of robots. We prove the size of this new meta-module to be optimal. Its robustness and performance substantially improve over previous results.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

The translatability of metaphor in LSP: application of a decision-making model

    Get PDF
The pragmatic approach to translation implies the consideration of translation as a useful test case for understanding the role of language in social life. Under this view this article analyses the decision-making stage translators go through in the course of formulating a TT. Hence this article contributes both to enhance the status of translation theory and to explain some of the decisions taken by the Spanish translators of three English Manuals of Economics. In short, we have argued that the use of a 'maximax' strategy for translating English metaphors as Spanish similarity-creating metaphors can be attributed to subjective factors, especially to the translators' cognitive system, their knowledge bases, the task specification, and the text type specific problem space. As a result, we have also claimed that proposals for translating microtextual problems —for example, metaphors — can benefit from the study of the above-mentioned subjective factors since they allow or inhibit the translators' choices in the decision-making stage of the translation process

Pipeline-Based Power Reduction in FPGA Applications

    Get PDF
This paper shows how temporal parallelism has an important role in the power dissipation reduction in the FPGA field. Glitches propagation is blocked by the flip-flops or registers in the pipeline. Several multiplication structures are implemented over modern FPGAs, StratixII and Virtex4, comparing their results with and without pipeline and hardware duplication

    Get PDF

Euskal Autonomia Erkidegoa eta Finlandia: hezkuntza inklusiboaren trataera

    Get PDF
[EUS] EAEko eta Finlandiako hezkuntza-sistemen alderaketan datzan GrAL honek Hezkuntza Gonbaratua izan du ardatz. Helburua bi herrialde hauen aniztasunaren trataera konparatzea eta ezagutzea zen eta horren bitartez, hezkuntza inklusiboaren ulermenean ezberdintasunak azaleratu izan dira: inklusioarekiko jarrera uzkurra izanik Finlandia integrazioan ardazten den bitartean, EAEn inklusioarekiko bidean aurrerapausoak nabari dira. Hala ere, aldaketa beharra sumatzen da bai hemengo zein Finlandiako legedian. [EN] This FDP based on the comparison between finnish and basque educational systems has been focused on Comparative Education. Here it has been compared the response that these two territories offer to the treatment of inclusive education. This is a research work and through a systematic analysis, some elements of inclusive education have been analysed. The aim was to compare and know inclusive education treatment in these places and, through this dissertation, some differences appeared regarding inclusive education understanding: while Finland, due to its resistant attitude towards inclusion, is focused on integration, the Basque Country shows an improvement in the process of inclusion. However, legislation change is not only necessary in Finland, but also in the Basque Country. In that way, following the path towards inclusion as a human right, students will have, in school as well, the opportunity to be educated in the diversity of social reality
