    Application of Interactive and Intelligent Packaging for Fresh Fish Shelf-Life Monitoring

    Smart packaging, also known as intelligent packaging, is responsive to external stimuli, moisture, light, oxygen, heat, pH, and bacterial growth. It has evolved from extensive applications in food safety, bacterial response, and medical packaging. Interactive packaging has a scientific basis for additional information about food products because these codes give all required data. This work deals with a combination of frontline food sciences, smart and interactive packaging that are applicable for future production of nutrition packages through smart detection of food spooling. Additionally, it verifies the best degree of food safety and population demands as the third generation of packaging technology. High qualified duplex laminated package with a nano-encapsulated pH monitoring label for fresh fish was printed. The interactive Quick Response code icon was combined in a designed package with important information about cooking, smart packaging, and fish quality. Therefore, particle size, zeta potential, and surface area are measured for a nanoencapsulated indicator which exhibits 74.4 nm, 23.6 mV, and 88.9 m2/g, respectively: overall migration, water vapor, and oxygen permeability. The properties of printing for 11 color spots are evaluated by x-rite before and after the cold storage period without any detectable changes in the rate of color change (ΔE). The bacterial count of the tested sample is examined by counting the microbial colonies in the agar plate media. There is good agreement between microbial count and smart indicator color change as an effective direct detection tool for sustainable food quality and safety

    Coronavirus pandemic, is a progressing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), brought about by sever acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The episode was first distinguished in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The World Health Organization announced a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020, and a pandemic on 11 March. Scientists around the world are working to establish an effective treatment against SARS-CoV-2 to control the spread of this pandemic. In this review, we summarized the potential therapeutic strategies for treatment of COVID-19 and dividing the treatments to several categories including antiviral drugs which act on decreasing the viral load inside the body of patients, immunotherapy and immunomodulatory which relive the inflammatory process of viral infection.     The standard approaches to the problem of conformable fractional calculus has been studied extensively. Many researchers have shown that the obtained conditions for the theorem describing the general solution of; y a ( x ) y b ( x ) are generally weaker than those derived by using the classical norm-type expansion and compression theorem. In this paper, we propose conformable method for the fractional differential transform and established the prove for basic properties of differintegrals.     Faking it: a conceptual discussion on emotional labor, emotional dissonance and emotional intelligence

    Emotional labor is a construct that is intertwined with the hospitality industry as employees are required to accommodate certain behavior or emotion to conform with the idea of providing excellent and sincere service to guests or customers. The concept of emotional labor will be further investigated and so does the implication of its utilization. In mentioning emotional labor, one would relate it with emotional dissonance as emotional labor has two forms which are surface acting and deep acting. The internal conflict between the inner feeling and displayed emotion is what termed emotional dissonance. The hospitality industry requires their employees to present their selves in a certain way as prescribed by each establishment. Thus, there are bound to be dissonances in the emotions of the employees. Previous literature also supports the idea of emotional intelligence playing a role in emotional labor with emotional labor having a positive relationship with emotional labor. Therefore, this paper is written with the idea of discussing conceptually the two variables and to explore Emotional Labor and Dissonance in detail; with elaboration of how emotional intelligence relates to them

    Essays on long memory time series and fractional cointegration

    The dissertation considers an indirect approach for the estimation of the cointegrating parameters, in the sense that the estimators are jointly constructed along with estimating other nuisance parameters. This approach was proposed by Robinson (2008) where a bivariate local Whittle estimator was developed to jointly estimate a cointegrating parameter along with the memory parameters and the phase parameters (discussed in chapter 2). The main contributions of this dissertation is to establish, similar to Robinson (2008), a joint estimation of the memory, cointegrating and phase parameters in stationary and nonstationary fractionally cointegrated models in a multivariate framework. In order to accomplish such task, a general shape of the spectral density matrix, first noted in Davidson and Hashimzade (2008), is utilised to cover multivariate jointly dependent stationary long memory time series allowing more than one cointegrating relation (discussed in chapter 3). Consequently, the notion of the extended discrete Fourier transform is adopted based on the work of Phillips (1999) to allow for the multivariate estimation to cover the non stationary region (explained in chapter 4). Overall, the estimation methods adopted in this dissertation follows the semiparametric approach, in that the spectral density is only specified in a neighbourhood of zero frequency. The dissertation is organised in four self-contained chapters that are connected to each other, in additional to this introductory chapter: • Chapter 1 discusses the univariate long memory time series analysis covering different definitions, models and estimation methods. Consequently, parametric and semiparametric estimation methods were applied to a univariate series of the daily Egyptian stock returns to examine the presence of long memory properties. The results show strong and significant evidence of long memory in the Egyptian stock market which refutes the hypothesis of market efficiency. • Chapter 2 expands the analysis in the first chapter using a bivariate framework first introduced by Robinson (2008) for long memory time series in stationary system. The bivariate model presents four unknown parameters, including two memory parameters, a phase parameter and a cointegration parameter, which are jointly estimated. The estimation analysis is applied to a bivariate framework includes the US and Canada inflation rates where a linear combination between the US and Canada inflation rates that has a long memory less than the two individual series has been detected. • Chapter 3 introduces a semiparametric local Whittle (LW) estimator for a general multivariate stationary fractional cointegration using a general shape of the spectral density matrix first introduced by Davidson and Hashimzade (2008). The proposed estimator is used to jointly estimate the memory parameters along with the cointegrating and phase parameters. The consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator is proved. In addition, a Monte Carlo study is conducted to examine the performance of the new proposed estimator for different sample sizes. The multivariate local whittle estimation analysis is applied to three different relevant examples to examine the presence of fractional cointegration relationships. • In the first three chapters, the estimation procedures focused on the stationary case where the memory parameter is between zero and half. On the other hand, the analysis in chapter 4, which is a natural progress to that in chapter 3, adjusts the estimation procedures in order to cover the non-stationary values of the memory parameters. Chapter 4 expands the analysis in chapter 3 using the extended discrete Fourier transform and periodogram to extend the local Whittle estimation to non stationary multivariate systems. As a result, the new extended local Whittle (XLW) estimator can be applied throughout the stationary and non stationary zones. The XLW estimator is identical to the LW estimator in the stationary region, introduced in chapter 3. Application to a trivariate series of US money aggregates is employed

    A Modified Differential Transform Method for Solving Nonlinear Systems

    Many natural phenomena are now being modelled by fractional calculus, however, there is still need for improvements of the present numerical approaches due to the non-local property of the fractional derivative and difficulty in solving problems related to physical units. In this paper, we present an improved numerical method based on Newton-Raphson fractional method (NFM) for solution of some nonlinear systems in complex space. Unlike in the Newton-Raphson fractional method, the commands of fractional derivatives are replaced with functions which is valid for one and several variables. The conformable fractional derivative of fractional order was employed to replace the first order derivative in the Newton method. Numerical results have been presented which show that the proposed numerical approach is efficient and promising

    Peritoneal carcinomatosis, an unusual and only site of metastasis from lung adenocarcinoma

    Isolated peritoneal metastases of lung adenocarcinoma are very rare, even exceptional, occurring most often in the context of a multi-metastatic disease. This report presents a rare clinical case of isolated peritoneal metastasis from lung adenocarcinoma. We report a 56-year-old male who was monitored for lung adenocarcinoma whose evolution has been marked by an isolated metastatic recurrence in the peritoneum objectified by an abdominal-pelvic computed tomography (CT) and confirmed by a laparoscopy with abiopsy of the peritoneal nodules. The patient had received palliative chemotherapy with gemcitabine, cisplatin and bevacizumab. The evolution was marked by a progressive deterioration of the general condition and death two months after the third treatment cycle. Peritoneal carcinomatosis from lung adenocarcinoma is a very rare event, and is often associated with a poor prognosis.Pan African Medical Journal 2016; 2

    The hospitality industry requires skilled workers in the restaurant, hotel and lodging sector in order to perform specific and unique tasks such as serving food, bed-making, turn down services and many more. Being an industry that is labor intensive, hospitality establishments strive to attract potential workers, especially fresh graduates to join them. Fresh graduates who are knowledgeable, committed, motivated are sought after by the industry but due to a number of factors, most graduates are not keen to join the hospitality industry. One of the factors that influenced their perception of the industry is their very own experience while going through their practical training. The difference between their expectation of the industry prior to the practical training and their real experience during it is too different thus altering their perception or image of the industry. Therefore this study was conducted to examine the factors affecting the undergraduates’ perception towards the industry in the case of students from the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, UiTM Penang. The findings indicated that the nature of work and social status are factors the affects the perception of the undergraduates
